Summary: The Art of Horror
Review: A good story measures by its characters. The component of a horror story are not necessary explicit violence or evil. The things King does the best is building a reliable characters and lead the readers to peaks of terror, sometime without any extravagant events. Quietly, cordially the terror penetrate to your soul. One minute you're in Mears hometown and a minute later you find out that some very disturbing things are going on around you. The book is a bit slow at first but The plot climb slowly and steady towered a great peak. King does it again (god knows how). Long live the King

Summary: WORTH DEVOURING
Review: I'd rate this book as my second-best, after "The Dead Zone" actually, but frankly, it is in my opinion one of King's best. A classic tale of vampires and blood-sucking, it transcends the ordinary vampire story and lingers on the borders of being extremely scary. I particularly revelled in one high point of the story when the professor discovers that a vampire is right inside his room door, 'he heard the sucking sounds and the high, sweet laughter of a child.' Hair-raising! Mark Petrie's character,a charming boy in late adolescence or his early teens, is also of noteworthy mention. The maturity he displayed when Danny, the vampire was at his window was incredibly astounding: his cool, relaxed and unexpectedly intelligent disposition in handling the situation was unbelievable. Furthermore, the fact that he refused to inform his father of his frightening encounter, when asked if he was o.k, is again evidence of this."Such is the difference between men and boys....", the chapter ends and this, in essence, embodies my sentiments. Read the book.

Summary: Starts Slowly, but gets a lot better
Review: I had a tough time getting into this book. Nothing really happens for 100 pages or so. I'm an avid fan of Stephen King, so I stuck with it. I'm glad I did. This modern tale about vampires is one of the best I've ever read. The suspense is overwhelming. It slowly creeps up on you and builds throughout the novel (in part due to the slow start of the novel).

My only other nitpick with this novel (other than its slow start) is that there are passages that are beyond boring. Particularly the ones without dialogue (The Lot chapters except The Lot IV). It was a feat of willpower to get through these.

Bottom Line: Stick with this novel, you won't regret it. Sure there are some tough spots to get through, but when you do, you'll find an excellent vampire novel that is tough to beat.

Summary: A fascinating read . . definitely recommended!
Review: 'Salem's Lot is the story about a desolate town in rural Maine that becomes inhabited by vampires. The beginning of the book was a wee bit slow, but once the story started coming together I could hardly put the book down. Definitely one of Stephen King's most underrated novels. I strongly recommend this book. When I finished reading I was disappointed and sad only because there was no more left to read.

Summary: Very good
Review: The book didn't scare me. Why am I giving it five stars then. Well, I saw the miniseries version first. The miniseries was good, and I was on the lookout for the book. Well, at my vocational school, I noticed it and read it the first chance I got. The miniseries was so faithful to the book, that not one part scared me. But, it was still great reading. Definetly not for kids under 13. I prefered the head vampire concept in the miniseries over that in the book.

Summary: King wants to suck your blood
Review: This is Stephen King's take on the vampire genre, and with it he completely whips Anne Rice's wimpy "Interview With a Vampire" series. No pretentious airs of aristocracy with King's vampires. They are mean, bad and on the march in the unfortunate town of Jerusalem's Lot. Their leader, "The Master," doesn't go in for Armani suits. He's bald, ugly and will suck you dry in a nanosecond, in the process turning you against you former friends and neighbors. Overall, this is one of King's absolute best and certainly scariest novels.

Summary: One of his best
Review: I've read about 8 รณ 9 of King's books, and this has to be one of his best ( Bag of Bones is great too). I actually had a nightmare with the school bus scene. There's so much that's always lost in the movies. The book has some great characters that aren't even mentioned in the movie. e.g the young couple with their baby. And I must say I'm also a Vampire Freak, so I reaaaallly loved this story.

Summary: really great
Review: i loved this book.but when i saw the movie i thought it would be really good like the book but it was not at all.this is very scary.since the movie was PG it wasnt scary at all

Summary: Read it while the lights are on!
Review: If you are scared easily this one is best read during the daytime.

I still remember while reading this one, the furnace kicked in during an especially spooky passage. I leapt from the chair.

Unusual events slowly come to light in this sleepy little town, revealing some ugly secrets and dark forces that must be reckoned with. It's a vampire novel before vampires were popular and long before Anne Rice was writing about them.

Of all of King's books this one is by far his most frightening.
