Rating: Summary: Squeezes out the fifth star from a tough critic Review: This book was the first King novel I read in years, and it started a reading spree that is rolling and may not be complete until I catch up to Mr. King. The Green Mile is full of rich characters, great twists, and just enough horrific stuff. This one will always stand out in my mind as a unique King novel with all of the little things that make the greats great. Also a fine book to start with if you've never read any King. I hope the movie lives up to the book.
Rating: Summary: One of the best novels King has written! Review: I've always liked Stephen King but sometimes I tend to find him and his stories (like Bag of Bones, Tommyknockers, Needful Things, to name a few ) too verbose. The Green Mile is everything I love about King's novels - masterful plot, interesting characters and fast pacing. Every word served it's purpose in this book. It's what the cliche "pageturner" is all about!
Rating: Summary: The last-minute call from the Governor King needed! Review: After the dismal "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon", and with his many great works long behind him ("IT", "The Stand", "Misery"), I was beginning to think Stephen King should be placed in Old Sparky's lap himself, to see if it could give his creative juices the jolt they needed. How could I ever have doubted him? The opening paragraphs of this novel, describing Cold Mountain Penitentiary, and Old Sparky itself, is perhaps the most deftly-woven piece of prose Stephen King ever laid pen (or PowerBook) to. The characters, within a few chapters, are life-long friends whom you eagerly support. The plot, within one chapter, has you in its icy grip, cold fingers around your neck, squeezing with the close of every installment--indeed with the close of every chapter. Simply put, this is the best thing King has written in a long long time. It is one of his classics. Thank heavens I only picked it up in the complete volume--if I hadn't been able to follow each cliffhanger to its conclusion, I think it might have killed me. For those who're considering giving King up for good, or for anyone who's just looking for a brilliant read--look no further. The magic is back.
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile - A must read for all King Fans Review: I read the Green Mile the full version in Paperback, not in the little editions that came out piece by piece. This is by far one of, if not the best King books that I have ever read. This book is a must for all King fans. I could not put the book down. It was grippping in an emotional type way from the first few pages to the end. You could almost feel the emotion running through John (Not spelt like the drink) Coffey, especially as the book drew to an end. I have not been this engrossed in a book for a few years and I am certainly glad that I have read this one. I recommend that if you only ever read one more book in your life and you are a King fan, that you read this one!!
Rating: Summary: MASTERFUL AS ALWAYS - LONG LIVE STEPHEN KING!! Review: Each time I see a King book that I haven't read, I buy it on the spot. This book, I must admit, I just couldn't put down. It's absolutely mesmerizing how King manages to go back and forth as Paul Edgecombe relates the story of what had happened back in the Green Mile when he was younger. As I read, I felt a surprise was lurking in those pages that would put everying into purspective and it did! Wonderfully written. It touches one's emotions and even for those who do not believe that miracles can happen, it leaves you with a filling that yes, there is good in everyone and it doesn't have to be sterotyped as an angel with wings.
Rating: Summary: A Pleasant Surprise Review: This was the first Stephen King novel I have ever read, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I expected a story filled with gratuitous violence, but instead I found a story with interesting characters and a meaningful plot. There is a certain amount of blood and guts, for those that like that sort of thing, but it is not what makes this story so compelling. It was very hard to put this book down because I could hardly wait to see what was going to happen to Paul Edgecombe and John Coffey. I am also anxious to see these characters come alive on the silver screen when the movie comes out in December 1999.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic! Review: I loved this book! Thank heavens what we thought was going to happen to Mr. Jingles the SECOND time around didn't! I simply don't think I could have gone on, had it. Superb work!
Rating: Summary: Probably the most captivating book I have ever read. Review: I have always been a Stephen King fan and I am always telling people that there is a lot more debt his writing than monsters and ghosts. I bought the paperback and I did not put down the book till I finished reading it. The book is a masterpiece. I strongly recommend people to check out the movie too. I saw the preview and it was fantastic. I also want to wish Stephen King a quick recovery. I hope he gets well soon. LONG REIGN THE KINGGGGGGGG

This is the first King book that I have ever read and I was looking for a good frightening, I didn't get it, but I got a lot more. I highly recommend this book.
