Rating: Summary: In addition to my previous review..... Review: I've just finished reading some of the "bad" reviews that some of you have written on here. Many of you have something in common...it seems as though you were expecting the usual horror story. This book is not at all a horror story with the exception of a "few" incidents that are explained in gory detail. If it's a horror story you are looking for, then pass this one up. This is just a great story with a few twists and unexpected events. This is the first book of King's that I've read, so I didnt really know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised....I was very impressed with his way of describing things in such a way that you felt as if you either knew the characters or were in the same room with them. Those of you that read this book....can you still smell Delacroix? Eeeeewww! But boy, great story-telling!
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: I thought this book was very good and I can't wait to see the movie. I realize that the story is being told by the "head" prison guard, Paul Edgecomb, in his old age....but I didn't much care for the repetitiveness. One chapter would end with a certain paragraph, and 2 or 3 chapters later, the first paragraph was repeated word for word...almost as if to remind you where you left off. That aside, I thought the story was great and very creative. I heard the movie was exactly like the book...can't wait to see it.
Rating: Summary: a fantastic read Review: This was the first book I ever read by King and I must say I was impressed. Thoroughly engrossing story line, wonderfully crafted characters, and a writing style that makes you love, hate and honestly care for the characters in the novel. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Truly touching Review: In the same category as the Shawshank Redemption, Stephen King provides the reader with an in-depth look at life in prison the way few people ever see. His ability to create such realistic characters in this story give you a true sense of how people aren't always what they seem. Stephen's creation of John Coffey will force you to question your own beliefs and reward you with an ending fit for a King. This is definitely one of his truest works and I highly recommend this book to any person looking for something more than just horror.
Rating: Summary: the green mile Review: coming from the old prejudical south i find a lot of scary truth in the history.excellent book
Rating: Summary: Steven King's best yet Review: Get ready for the reading expirience of your life. King grips all of your emotions. Life on "death row" goes irregular when miracles come from something as small as a mouse to a 7'8" giant. This is a must-read, don't wait to see the movie first.
Rating: Summary: Excellent...one of my favorite SK novels. Review: I guess you either love this book or you hate it. I happen to love it. I think people who did not enjoy the book anticipated the Green Mile to be one of SK's infamous horror novels. It isn't. I think we associate him with that genre so much that we forget what a great storyteller he really is (does anyone else love the Dark Tower series? ). The Green Mile was just a great read. It was so easy to become completely involved with all the characters, and the story is gripping (even if it is corny!). I highly recommend this book to those of you who appreciate King for his ability to tell a story. If you're looking for gore, keep on walking!
Rating: Summary: I don't get it! Review: I read this book after reading all of the great reviews on Amazon and I left thinking it was an interesting book, a good book but not a great book. I don' get how anyone who knew someone was innocent and a friend would kill them. Sorry, it doesn't make sense. Also, I don't understand not getting the warden's help. They gave up awfully easy. I thought the ending was flat and the mouse a little overdone. One review I read stated this book proves Stephen King has a heart...it must be a pretty cold one.
Rating: Summary: Very, Very Good Review: This is one of Stephen King's BEST! It kept me on the edge of my seat. I was reading it every chance I got. It is about a man named John Coffey on death row. He is special because God blessed him with a gift. Read this fascinating book to find out more. You won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: One of His Best! Review: The Green Mile is a real page-turner. The characters are very well developed and you feel each and every emotion they experience in the story of John Coffey, the gentle giant. King makes us realize that each wonderful moment we experience in life, around the corner will be one just as as painful. It is a wonderful story of love, miracles, pain and suffering, and learning to live our lives with all of these things thrown in. I think John Coffey will stay in my heart for a long time to come!
