Rating: Summary: Certainly the best book I have ever come across Review: I was introduced to the writing of Stephen King when I read "The Stand' (unabridged), and mistakenly thought that it was the greatest work of his career, as it would have been had Stephen King been a lesser novelist. However, The Green Mile was a far more brilliant and moving book than anything I have ever read or expect to read. The plot and character development was incredible, the story brilliantly woven, and the visual descriptions were so real that one could almost see what he saw. The term "genius" is over-used in modern speech, but it easily applies to this book and its author. I heartily recommend this book both to fans and critics of Stephen King.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Book is a very interesting prison story in the depression era. Kings charactors are extremly interesting and entertaining. Also they did a great job with the movie. Followed the book real close. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ! Review: The Green Mile is, hands down, the best novel I've ever read. John Coffey is a great character and you know almost from the very beginning that there is something special about this behemoth of a man, who supposedly raped and murdered two 9-year-old twin sisters, yet asks Paul Edgecombe to leave the light on after dark. The suspense is so great it is terrifying, but in general the book is not typical King. It is not the normal twisted horror found in his other novels. This is a must-read for any King fan and it never gets boring. It's also a great book to get someone interested in King. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: STEPHEN KING'S ALL TIME BEST WORK Review: THIS IS A STORY THAT WILL MAKE A MARK ON ALL MEN . . STEPHEN KING HAS OUT DONE HIMSELF THIS TIME .
Rating: Summary: Moving Review: I loved this book. I read it for what it is - a good entertaining read. I thought Stephen King excelled at developing the characters, both good and bad, and really brought them to life. He took something as nominal as a jail-house mouse and turned it into a main character. He certainly knows how to stir the emotions.
Rating: Summary: Shocking and Amazing Review: This book has to be one of the best books I've ever read. The plot made it an excellent story because it WAS NOT predictable, like a lot of books are. I would give this to someone who hates Stephen King and bet you money that they would love it!
Rating: Summary: Not King's usual Review: When reading a Stephen King novel most would expect to find supernatural powers or bloody gory scenes. Although The Green Mile does have at least one gory scene it is nothing compared to his other works. I saw the movie recently and thouhgt it was almost as good as the book. But as with any movie of a book it does lack some. IN the movie you lose the narration and thoughts of Paul Edgecomb and his life at Georgia Pines. This might be all well and good because the movie is already 3+ hours. I was asked several questions after the movie regarding lapses in the plot. Nothing major, just why this or that was shappening, how did King describe that, etc. Please read the book before seeing the movie, it is better. Besides why go through all the time reading it to already know how it turns out? Seems like a waste. Long live the King.
Rating: Summary: An easy and entertaining read Review: Great book. The characters are well developed, and the story is captivating (no pun intended). Keep in mind that this was a novel originally published in serial form, so there is some repetiveness that originally would have helped remind you of where the previous installment left off. This novel could have used some editing to blend it together better, but the author tells us in his forward that he left it as is. With that in mind, it is a good book from a great writer.
Rating: Summary: Highly Entertaining Review: When I think of King I think of horror and having personally had my fill of the horror genre phase I never even considered the series. However, when I saw they made a movie based on the novel and it starred Tom Hanks I took a second look. Like The Shawshank Redemption it was a prison novel. I happened to find The Shawshank Redemption an excellent movie - too bad it only did $28 million in theatres because it's one of the best movies ever made. King does an excellent job of taking you back to the Depression Era and I couldn't help but see Tom Hanks as the lead throughout the book. It's an entertaining story and hard to put down and King introduces some thought-provoking concepts however - they're not life-changing. It's a good read but not a novel I feel compelled to re-read.
Rating: Summary: Not typical King, but just as excellent! Review: I love it when Stephen King takes a break from his usual horror stuff. Because whenever he does, the book becomes one of my favorites! I adored Bag of Bones and that one was my favorite until the Green Mile. This book is positively perfect. I was in love with it from start to finish and I know you will be too.
