Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: This book was a very good book and seeing how this is the firts Stephen King book I have ever read I figured that this would just be a horror story when it is very far from it. I really recomend this book to anyone older than 13 because thier is some sexuality and strong language in it.
Rating: Summary: Genius a mile long Review: I've had the positive blessing to have picked up -- quite by chance -- and read deeply of Mr. King's epic Green Mile. In my estimation, this is the finest work of literature of our age. Indeed, perhaps of any age. It is at once wise, irreverent, poignant, trite, and profoundly backhanded in its articulation. I would advise no one under 55 to read too deeply into it. It will yield little until you have matured until, at least, the age of the narrator (with whom, for one, I share a deep understanding). Mr. Shakespeare, Mr. Pope, Mr. Steinbeck, this is Mr. King. He is your equal.
Rating: Summary: Green Mile - audio cassette Review: Stephen King did an excellent job writing, and Frank Muller did an excellent job reading this book...I was held captive through all 18+ hours. For the first time in a long time I actually was GLAD I had a thirty mile compute to work and back...and thankful for a full hour lunch... Thumbs up and five stars all the way!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ! Review: This book, without doubt, is the best book I've ever read. Stephen King does an excellent job of describing each character in depth; and it allows you to actually feel their own feelings. It truly was an excellent book.
Rating: Summary: Interesting but ultimately dissapointing. Review: If you don't know the ending of this book do not read on. I have never understood the popularity of Stephen King and have never been a fan. I have always felt that most of his stories were pretty predictable. I have to admit I did enjoy this book though and Iwas very skeptical when I started it. One thing I have never liked about Stephen King books and this one was no exception is the dialogue. King tries so hard, too hard in my opinion, to make the characters of his books sound authentic and down-to-earth. As a result the dialogue he has his characters spitting out never rings true for me. It just doesn't flow, it sounds forced and contrite. I also felt the ending of this book was out of character. These people witnessed miracle after miracle and it just didn't seem to shake them up all that much. They come up with and carry out this elaborate plan to save the warden's wife but then a few days later they really don't exert themselves a bit to think of a plan to save John Coffey. That was completely out of character. I think having Coffey say on the next page, after the men had tossed around a few ideas and deemed them impossible, that he wanted to die to end his pain was a typical Stephen King cop out. I mean so much detail had gone into the first several hundred pages and then at the most crucial part of the story it seems King just dashed off a few pages to end the book. King could have skipped all the repeating (and this book does repeat itself a lot) and spent more energy on the end. Not that I wanted a happily ever after ending, but he should've been more true to his characters and have had them at least trying harder. Why not tell the warden Coffey was innocent? Why not tell the reporters and anyone who would listen? Instead they just quietly give up. So the book for me was intruiging but in the end unsatisfying.
Rating: Summary: The Green mile is great! Review: This is the best book I've read ever,I love it, it makes you laugh, cry, feel every emotion there is, it's wonderful,it touches the heart
Rating: Summary: Stephen King at his best Review: Being a great Stephen King fan I simply couldn't resist buing The Green Mile even though I hadn't heard anything about it at the time. I love King's paranormal stuff but I adore his narrative style when he's telling a story, as in The Green Mile. I think it's fiction at its best. An original idea superbly dealt with.
Rating: Summary: Buy the book and read it before you see the movie! Review: Don't cheat yourself out of reading this book! It is pure entertainment for the King fan! When old Sparky malfunctions due to foul-play, well, I won't spoil it for you....an incredibly described scene. Practically, smell-o-vision for the reader. Just when I thought I could no longer be shocked by anything anymore, I was! It was a deliciously frightening experience! I'm glad I own this book and can read it again & again!
Rating: Summary: This is a fantastic book Review: When the novel first came out in 6 parts, my English teacher told us aboout how a lot of books used to be published this way. I was not a reader of Stephen King's books, and was a bit skeptical, but I decided to read them anyway. Soon I was so involved in the story it was agony to wait for a month for the next part to come out. If you have only seen the movie don't hesitate to read the book! The movie was a wonderful adaptation but of course they couldn't put everything in it, so read the book too! And to make it really fun, you could buy it one part at a time and make yourself wait a month to read the next...its torture but it makes the book all the more exciting and interesting!
Rating: Summary: Exellent performance of an excellent book Review: I truly enjoyed the performance as much as the story! Frank Muller does an incredible job of being the characters. Basically the story revolves around death row prisioners in a 30's cell block. The chief warden telling us about the characters both the guards and prisioners. They truly live and walk off the pages. The theme is one of real life edged in the supernatural, you could jump either way.
