Rating: Summary: Liked the book, LOVED the movie! Review: I was intrigued and bought each of the six parts of the book, one by one. It was almost painful to wait for the next!If this is one where you said, "I'll wait for the movie", then you're in luck. One of only two I've ever seen that was BETTER than the book (the other being The Shawshank Redemption). This one really came to life and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Rating: Summary: Green Mile? Trust me, it's good Review: A book about a prison guard circa 1932 isn't exactly what you call a hot main character idea, but it definately works. Stephen King amazes you with the battles of your conscience and daily trials of prison guard Paul Edgecombe. He takes you through the sad story of a convicted killer's walk to the electric chair and a prison guard's take on it. Not a surprise, King has again written a worthwhile book that will put you in its grip and keep you there.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written, excellent reading.... Review: "The Green Mile" sat on my bookshelf for two years. "I'll read it later," I kept telling myself. Or more honestly, "I'll wait for the movie!" is how I probably felt. Boy was I wrong! Once I started reading "The Green Mile", I could not put it down. And once I finished, I wanted more! I cannot begin to explain the many different emotions I felt; from compassion for some characters to utter disgust at others. Things aren't always as they may appear. And King has done an excellent job in telling this unique and thought-provoking story. He has humbled me into believing that maybe I should not wait for his work to hit the Big Screen. I was not aware of what I was truly missing. I have not seen the movie, but I feel I must recommend reading "The Green Mile" first. "Feel" it for yourself...open your mind and go with it.
Rating: Summary: I didn't see the movie but the book was good Review: This is a great read. It's full of tension and sympathy. It might not change your life but you will enjoy every page. I stayed up reading every night. It is a very good story and idea. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't enjoy this book. Heck, look at the price tag! You can afford to take a chance.
Rating: Summary: An extraordinary novel! Review: This is a sad moving novel from an author that you've come to expect to be frighted out of your wits by. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: One of King's Best! Review: A friend of mine from work suggested I read this book and knowing how Stephen King can be a bit bizzare I was skeptical. Boy, was I wrong. This book was great. I couldn't put it down and hated when it ended. I can't wait to see the movie, but I can't possibly see how it could be as good as this book. Some books you can read and forget, this one will stick with you for a long, long time. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: JC Review: This is a lacerating Southern tragedy in the tradition of Tennessee Williams (right down to the humidity). I can't remember ever reading anything so painful. Why did I read it twice then? The quality of the writing makes it worth the pain! I did find great comfort in the camaraderie between Paul and the other wardens. Also providing some solace are the words and thoughts of characters expressing what the reader is probably feeling. King DOES really turn up the pain index by making you love the characters so much, building an emotional investment; then making you feel their pain. Also, King has a powerfully visionary writing style--you're THERE. I guess the overall message of The Green Mile is one of vulnerability -- but that we're all vulnerable together!
Rating: Summary: Adds character depth to the movie Review: If you've seen the movie, reading the book will amplify it in terms of understanding better the characters and their thoughts. Both the book and the movie are intensely fantastic. Lots to think about.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: In the Green mile Stephen King brings a sort of compassion for the lowest of the low. He mixes the everyday struggle of right and wrong, but adds the frightening reality that all things are not what they seem. Combine those components with a supernatural power or a gift and he provides us with a spell binding masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: IF I HAD A BOX OF STARS I'D EMPTY IT ALL OVER THE AUDIOBOOK! Review: This is, without doubt, the BEST audiobook I have ever heard -- and I've listened to hundreds of excellent ones. Stephen King is a master painter with the written word and reader Frank Muller is a master painter with the spoken word. If you get only ONE audiobook in your life, this has to be it. And, though I originally wanted to see the movie, I don't anymore. The audiobook is 14 hours long and I can't imagine what could have been left out to compress it into a 3-hour movie.
