Rating: Summary: Finely written novel Review: King has written a very different type of novel: The green mile. It closly resembles the movie, and it reads quite it bit like a really long movie. The words and events flow out and together like the ink from a thick from a pen, and you will really enjoy the concept of no "slow parts." It becomes intense near the end, and I am also very happy that I read it now. I could not stant to wait to read this book over a six month span of time!
Rating: Summary: To disheartened fans Review: If any Steven Kings fans have been a bit disappointed as of late, get ready for a trip back to the masters hand...This is the kind of read we used to wait breathlessy for... One of his best!
Rating: Summary: ALL-TIME FAVORITE BOOK! Review: Simply put, my favorite book of ALL-TIME (and I don't care much for Stephen King)! The characters are richly drawn, the situations never fail to surprise, and the emotions that are touched make for one of the BEST times I've EVER had reading a book! I've only read it twice, but plan to read it at least once more in the near future!
Rating: Summary: 100% Stephen King........... Review: This is not a tender hearted story. It is full of supernatural stuff, so don't be expecting anything different.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Amazing Review: I am, by admission, not a Steven King fan. However, this book may change that! From the first page to the last, this book not only held my interest but my heart. King weaves a beautiful tale of the memories of a prison guard who presided over death row inmates in the 1930's. But the story is more about the relationships on the "Green Mile" than the executions. It is a story of hope, not death, and of the energy that exists between human souls.King explores the ability of one person to heal another, and in the end, it is the guard who heals, by writing his memoirs many years later. The movie, starring Tom Hanks, is especially faithful to the book, a credit to both author and screen writer. The integrity of the story, the humor, pathos, and affirmation of life is preserved. Both deserve 5 stars! One to watch, one to read, again and again. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderfully Written Journey Review: This was my third King novel, and I must say that I am completely thrilled to have had the pleasure of reading it. I am not a reader by trade(only 4 books in 5 years), but this one was amazing. The eloquent story telling and visual pictures are both heart-warming and thought provoking. I recommend this "soon-to-be" classic to anyone who has not yet had the pleasure. Thank you, Stephen, for the best book I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: Another reason King will be remembered for years... Review: Have you ever really smelled fear in a terrified man? Can you taste the air in a prison? Do you know what hope and frustration feels like in rapid fire sucession? Can you see the scene laid out before you without a screen or TV? If not, you have never read a King-piece. I've read the book. I've heard the tapes. Hell, I'll watch the movie. How many times can an old story become new? As many times as you can live it. Reading, listening to, or watching a King-piece is a study in indifference to reality, yet also a lesson about the extremes of real life. If you've never been scared to the brink of insanity, let Steve tell you how it feels, smells, tastes, "rolls around in your head". Is this a scary book? No. Will you think and worry about it when you are buying gum at the convenience store? Damn right. It get's in you like all of King's works. He writes with hooks that sink into the mind and although they don't hurt so much after a while, they are always there. Don't let this be the first "serious" book you read. It'll spoil you. And if you've never read King before, save "The Stand" and the "Dark Tower Series" for last. Let "The Green Mile" stand as an example of how books should be written.
Rating: Summary: Touching Your Heart Review: Most of us hear the name Stephen King and get scared. This book won't scare you at all. It will touch your heart in a most humane way. Thank you Stephen King for once again taking me on a trip.
Rating: Summary: As it was intended... Review: In his introduction to THE GREEN MILE, a serial novel about a death row prison guard's experiences during the depression, author Stephen King recalls the serial stories that were read aloud to him as a child. He would hang on every word, aching and lusting for the next installment. And he suggests that THE GREEN MILE be enjoyed in just that manner, "read it aloud" the master storyteller urges. And narrator Frank Muller does just that on this rare and compelling book-on-tape. He spins the tale without melodrama, but instead with eloquence, humor and authenticity. It is a tale wonderfully told, about criminals, saints, miracles and murderers. Muller captures the subtle dignity of King's novel. And delivers it, perhaps, as the man himself would prefer -- aloud and leaving the listener wondering, what next? For christsakes, tell me more...
Rating: Summary: Constant page turner Review: From the first page to the last, I could not put this book down. One of King's finest novels. Wonderfully written with a great plot and brilliant charachters. He completely pulls the reader into this one.
