Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down. Review: Well I'm glad to see it's out in one book. when I first read the Grean mile it was in the serial edition and I died when I didn't have the next book. I would set and read each new serial book when they came out. I basicly would disappear from the world for a couple days when I got them. And then the movie came out. WOW. just be ready to cry. Thanks for the space and hope you enjoy
Rating: Summary: Cross King and Rod Serling - sort of like Ted Sturgeon Review: I used to be a rabid and avid King fan but somewhere around Tommyknockers or It, we went separate ways. When I saw the book with a picture of Tom Hanks on the cover it caught my interest as I've never seen anything that Hank's has appeared in that wasn't great. Of course, you've got to read the book before you see the movie, so I took another shot at a King book, and am I glad I did. It's a great read. The characters are realistic and engaging. There are absolutely no slow parts and dozens of cliffhangers, plot twists, etc.. And, the bad guys come to a satisfyingly bad end. It reminded me a lot of the work of Theodore Sturgeon. It was almost as good.
Rating: Summary: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ALL READERS! Review: When I first came across this title, I initially thought "Oh no, another of King's weird stories --- full of build up & a lousy ending". But I saw Tom Hanks' picture on the cover & I respect that actor very much, so I said it must be good. & damn right it was! IT WAS GREAT! ABSOLUTELY GREAT! The story is not really about "Old Sparky" but more of Paul's mind travel to the past & his re-living all sweet & bitter memories. You'll weep & laugh with him. You'll feel his pain, sorrow & fear with every turn of the page. You will want & pray with him for John's release or finding peace. & like Paul & John, you will agree that life is like a "Green Mile" --- a walk to your end.
Rating: Summary: How well written! Review: I enjoyed reading this book! Very good and would recomend it to all
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's Best Novel......EVER! Review: As a fan of King, I have come to enjoy his wonderful story-telling ability. As an English student, I respect his use of plot, character and setting. This novel has all of this and more. The story is so thought-provoking and the narrator is so reliable that you agree with everything he does and says. He seems like your grandfather. In any event, buy this book. If this wasn't enough to convinvce you, let me say this...this is the only book that has ever made me cry!
Rating: Summary: A novel with something for everyone! Review: The Green Mile is an outstanding work of literature that I am certain will become a classic and be enjoyed by many long after our time. Colorfully written only begins to describe the wonderfully human and yet magical way King weaves this story. This book touched my heart. The characters were all so well developed I felt like I knew them and felt what they felt anger , sadness , laughter and love with each turn of the page. Please buy this book and enjoy... Well done Mr.King!
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: This is quite simply the best Stephen King that I have ever read (and I have read most two or three times) At the end of the book he writes "please let me know how you feel about this book". Well its the only time ever that I have wanted to write to the author and tell them. I would recommend this to anyone, not just King fans.
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: Book blew the movie away............
Rating: Summary: A different kind of King... Review: When someone writes as many books as Stephen King has, you are bound to have some duds. As a fan of his early work, I was very disappointed at some of his novels during the last five years...until I read this one. This is a great novel, plain and simple. It is an wonderfully spun tale, with vivid descriptions and character insight that King delivers well. As a reader, character depth is very important to me...and this book delivers just that. You can relate just about every character to someone in your own life...you can't help but feel the main character's moral conflict-he a very believable character. It is not often that a good old fashioned morality tale comes along - and this book delivers - the simplicity and beauty of miracles, the stand how the most unlikely of people can end up heroes. The imagery is vivid, the characters are ones you want to get to know...just a well written effort on King's part. After the book was over, I found myself wanting to know more, wishing there was more to read. As for the film, well, no one could have played this character quite the way that Tom Hanks did. This book made an excellent film adaptation...there was not a dry eye in the theatre on Christmas Day while we watched this. Even if you've sworn off King as "too wordy", give this one a try. If nothing else, this book will touch you - and allow you to share in the life lessons that the characters all endure.
Rating: Summary: King's best work Review: As a frequent reader of Stephen King I was simply amazed at how different this novel was from the author's previous work. King once again shows his unbelievable story-telling talent and does so with a warmth and passion rarely seen in modern literature. This is truely his best work yet!
