Rating: Summary: The best book I've read in a long time. Review: I'll keep this short since a lot of others have reviewed this book already. I'll leave it at this. If you enjoyed the movie, you should read this book. Most everything that happens in the movie happens almost word for word the same in the book. However, There's a ton of great stuff that didn't make it into the movie. There's definetly a lot more character development in the book. The book is told over a much longer period of time. There's much more story involving the Cheif. There's some great stuff about an inmate they called "The President". You just learn a lot more from the book. I should point out that it's the only book that made me cry. So, just to restate. If you enjoyed the movie, get this book!
Rating: Summary: Is King this era's Dickens? Review: In my view the mantle of Charles Dickens has passed across the pond to Mr King. Of course King doesn't put long socio-economic speeches into the mouths of his characters but in terms of his mastery of the English language and his ability to hold his reading audience captive in his literary palm, he has few equals. This book is probably his crowning work to date and there is little that can fault it. The characters are finely drawn and the atmosphere of the prison and its ghoulish purpose is almost tangible. This title will be hard to better. Don't be put off by the fact that most libraries and bookstores pigeonhole Stephen King into the horror genre. Few authors in my experience have been able to transcend their populist categorization as well as this man. This is not a horror book in the Koontz mould ... it is something far, far better than that. I commend it thoroughly.
Rating: Summary: Number ONE book in America Review: This book demenstraits the ture talent of Stephan King! King combined drama with a most wounderful plot to make one of the best books ever written! The Green Mile is not only sad but it is creates such a bond between the reader and the characters with in the book. In December of 1999 there was "The Green Mile" movie made, this stared Tom Hanks (At His Best). This is again one of the finest movies ever made. Thanks to King, he has added so much to are entertainment world. If you have not read this book or seen the movie, I strongly recommed seeing the movie and reading the book.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever Written Review: Hey All. This is one of the best books ever written by King. This book in no doubt will make you think twice about the death penalty. It is probably my favorite book
Rating: Summary: A great Stephen King novel Review: "The Green Mile" is the first book I have finished by Stephen King, and it will not be the only one I will read! I loved the name of the electric chair "Old Sparky." The begining started off slow, but from chapter 3 on was great. I could hardly put the book down for a rest. My next move is to watch the movie and see which I like better. My guess is the book will be a hundred percent better.
Rating: Summary: Book Review "The Green Mile" Review: I think the "Green Mile" book is great. I have seen the movie and the movie was really moving, but the book got so more into depth than the movie you really got to read the fine details behind all the characters. I like to read a book after the movie because a movie you have to shorten 5to a certain time but a book can be as long as it wants. It is a book I recommend people to read.
Rating: Summary: Corny but Likeable Review: This is a fair King effort. The characters are likeable and interesting and the premise is great. It is pretty slow in places however. There wasn't enough horror in the book for my tastes, and it was a bit overwritten but its overall a good read.
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: Did you ever want to know what the electric chair really does? If so, then you would be interested in reading The Green Mile by Stephen King. The book is written from the point of view of one of the prison guards. So far in this book it just tell the reader about the people on death row and why they are there. All the men that are on E block are all convicted killers. E block is the place where the men are awaiting their turn to walk the green mile, which is a hallway that leads to " Old Sparky" the electric chair. The main character in the book is John Coffey, Brutal, and the next convict to be sent to death by the electric chair, Arlen Bitterbuck. As I have been reading this book, I have noticed a variety of things that interested me. The first thing to catch my eye was to see that it has a movie to go along with it. The next thing I wondered was why are the characters in the book being sentenced to death. I like to read books that have an interesting topic. I have picked this book because I am willing to know what has actually happened to the people waiting on death row. Those are the main reasons that I decided to read this book. I would recommend others to read this particular book to understand what the electric chair really does. It explains what the convicts in the E block section of the penitentiary have done. Then the book gives you a great amount of detail that describes each of the characters on death row. I am also recommending this book to get the feel whether you think the death penalty is worth it or not. In any case, I think the book is great and people should read it.
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: Not a big fan of Stephen's, (In fact, it's the only King book I've ever read) but this book was amazing. Considering how popular, and how many books King has written it was never a doubt in my mind that he was a good writer... But this sure confirmed it! The storytelling by Paul Edgecomb was amazing. The story was great. Taking place in the year of 1932, a prison guard (Edgecomb) gets "another prisoner," although this prisoner is different. John Coffey (Like the drink, but spelled different. This prisoner can (literally) suck the death and/or pain out of a person. But the prisoner is on death-row for the rape and murder of a set of twins. As the story unfolds, Coffey helps Edgecomb, who in turn sees him for who - or what - he is. The Green Mile refers to the path from the prison cells to the electric chair. Everything, including the carpet and walls are green. With a cute mouse, a gory execution, and the job to put a saint to death, makes The Green Mile is wonderful reading. it may not have a huge impact on your life, but it will leave you thinking about it for a few days.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: I read this book in one day. The story really puts you on the other side and actually makes you feel for these condemned murderers (except, of course, for William Wharton) The characters are unforgettable and the story is one that will be remembered long after putting the book down. Any King fan or any fan of a good story will love this book.
