Rating: Summary: Put a Day Aside For This One Review: I was never a Stephen King reader but went on the recommendation of the clerk at the bookstore. I read this book in a day. Occasionally, I had to stop to take a breather from so much emotion but then had to pick it back up to see where it would go. You will be on an emotional roller coaster that is well worth the ride. Stephen King will be reconsidered after reading this fine novel.
Rating: Summary: A Gem! Review: This was definitely a story loaded with character to the hilt. It was not a typical Stephen King book in the horror sense; although it was loaded with suspense and horror. The book had a wonderful flow to it. I just couldn't get bored or easily put this book down. Something dramatic and suspenseful was always happening around each and every corner. Sometimes I laughed and sometimes I actually cried. It was a story of friendship, love, hatred, morality and life. The story carries a load of portraying a huge political statement, disguised through the innocence of love, miracles and wonderfully colorful characters. I haven't read many King books in years. Not that I don't like him, I just think I finally got bored with horror books. This story follows in the path of "The Shawshank Redemption" in which King strays from his usual horror stream. I am a renewed King faithful through this book. It is an absolute Gem of a story. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: This book is a one-of-a-kind Review: This is the first and only book I have ever read where I felt that I actually knew the characters. I have read other books by Stephen King and other great writers, but none have gave me this feeling of connection. I didn't think that this book would be good, but my friend suggested I read it and find out. It proved me wrong after the first few pages. I didn't want to let the book go. It pulls you in and it's like John Coffey, "Billy the Kid" Wharton, and Paul Edgecombe are right there next to you, and you are experiencing the happenings right along with them. I was shocked. This is truly the best book I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: Deeply engrossing....... Review: I love this book! This is one of the few books that has made me put aside other reading just to continue the story to the end. The plot draws you into the story, but the characters make you care about them and their plight. This is perhaps only the second Stephen King novel I've read...now I look forward to reading more.
Rating: Summary: King Returns to My List of Best Authors Review: I can't tell you the last time a book made me cry (especially one authored by Stephen King), until I read The Green Mile. Not just a tear or two, but actual sobs. I was an avid reader of Stephen King when he first hit the literary scene, but after a while all the gore and horror finally got to me and I moved on to other authors and subject matters. This book brought me back into the fold. It is poignant, graphic, sobering, and runs the gambit of human emotions. If it doesn't touch one of yours, you must be totally insensitive or dead ! There isn't a character in this book, human or otherwise, that someone couldn't relate to. I haven't seen the movie yet. Don't know if I even want to because it would really have to go some to top the experience of the book.
Rating: Summary: The Green Mile Review: I will have to say that THE GREEN MILE is the best book I have ever read. This book is a gem of a story telling of a man with a secret power that can heal human flesh. This man is John Coffey, a giant of a man with the mind of a small child. Coffey is brought to the book's main character (Paul Edgecombe) as a prisoner on death row at the Cold Mountain Penitentury. Coffey is sentenced to death by electricution. When Paul discovers John's amazing power he starts to question himself about whether or not Coffey is guilty. The truth is an all out shocking one, and you will have to read it to find out.
Rating: Summary: Go ahead and try to call Stephen King "just a horror writer" Review: After you have finished this book (which you will, indeed which I believe you must), you will never think of Stephen King as anything but a true master of stories, perhaps THE master storyteller. You will laugh, cry, hurt almost physically, catch your breath, sit stunned, stare in true horror (Del's appointment with "Old Sparky"). Your heart will break at the suffering of the innocent that only real life can surpass. This book is hard to categorize: horror as only Stephen King can do (and few, if any, others); romance and love that surpass death; humor that is laugh-out-loud funny; suspense that causes intense physical tension in the reader; and faith and hope, and compassion for even the basest of human beings. This book is mostly about loneliness, isolation, and separation. A heart-breaking look at the nature of human life and its ultimate end. Paul & John are so alone in each of their ends, left to suffer their burdens (and other's as well, especially in John's case) themselves. You must pick this book up and read it for the sheer breadth of emotion that you will experience. A masterpiece for those who simply love books.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: An excellent book -one I think my children will be studying in school one day. I have been a Stephen King fan for many years and this is one of his best. Of course, I cried through the last 100 pages - but it was well worth it. Well written, moving, funny, wonderful characters -- one of the 10 best books I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Review about "The Green Mile" Review: Although this novel achieves its goal, i.e. creating an atmosphere full of suspense, it has some weaknesses, above all the plain story and the flat characters. In addition to this, the action is mostly interrupted by the cliffhangers at the end of the chapters, which shows that "The Green Mile" was actually written as a serial novel. All in all, it's a book easy and nice to read but no real outstanding work of literature worth to read twice.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding work of fiction Review: In our opinion "The Green Mile" by Stephen King is one of the greatest books we've ever read! He is a genious in creating a certain tension and suspense in atmosphere so that the reader can exactly imagine the scenery. As far as language is concerned the book isn't very demanding and the stylistic devices used by King are easy to comprehend. But those two items can't reduce the breathtaking character of this captive novel!
