Rating: Summary: Made you think? Review: This book make you think about what is real, and if what we see everyday is a miracle by God or not. If you read this book you would probaly memorize it forever. "What will I say to God when my judgement day comes".
Rating: Summary: The movie is only part of the story... Review: If you're considering not reading this book because you've already seen the excellent movie, then you need to change your mind. Not only is the book significantly better (believe it or not) but there's also another ending. NOT a different ending, exactly, but an additional ending about a ...well, I won't spoil it. Anyway, superbly done novel that you'll LOVE.
Rating: Summary: A Book to crawl into for the soul Review: This book I would have to say touched my heart deeply. I myself am a 10 grade high school student that just had to read it for a literature assignment in 9th grade. This personally was the first Stephen King book I have read. Even though I have seen countless moives on his books. This book had certain parts in it that brought emotions to the suface I never knew I had.It really made me think about what life is like on Death role. Also the aspect that some people are not guilty is a great thing to think about. This book made me cry of happy tears and sad ones. Such a great book as this will never be forgotton. I now am a huge fan of Stephen's. Even though I know this book was not one of his usually ones still it is the best book I have ever read. If anyone wishes to contact me on other books or this one I am at ginastar2@hotmail.com Stephen if u ever read this you are great. Thanks
Rating: Summary: One of Stephen King's Best Review: I was skeptical of this book. However, when I finished I felt like I had been swept into another world. The characters were all great from Paul Edgecome to Wild Bill Wharton. The story was never slow to me, but I like getting to know the characters, so it may feel slow to some. This book is highly reccomended and a great read.
Rating: Summary: kosenagie Review: I bought this booking not knowing what it was about (somone recomended the movie to me) and boy was I glad when i was finished reading it. Mr. King shows his amazing story telling magic in this story. A man is sentenced for death row, but one gaurd does not believe how the kind hearted man could have done such a cold-hearted crime when he hears the first thing come out of "big boy" John Coffey's mouth, "do you leave the light on in here after bedtime? Cause I get scared in the dark, if it's a stange place." The amazing detail that Mr. king put in this book makes you never put it down. Most people that had seen me with this book thought it was just another Stephen King book, but its not. There is only one decently gruesome scene in the book and it can be skipped without even missing a thing. I highly recomend this book, it made me laugh, cry, feel angry and happy. It certainly is staying on the shelf for my kids to read!
Rating: Summary: Let us start the tour of E Block with..... Review: a walk down the green mile. At the end of the mile you will see Old Sparky, that is what the prisoners jokingly call our electric chair, but when they walk the green mile- it's not a joke anymore. If you will notice on the left that there is a monstrous big man with a gift from God. Continuing on you see Paul Edgecombe, a man who will in the future suffer having to put a friend to death, also a man who has watched 77 men fry in Old Sparky's lap, and after the bad death of Eduard Delacroix- won't be able to watch another man fry. Backing him up, as always, are Dean Stanton, Brutus Howwell, and Harry Terwilliger. And the one who just scurried after a crayola-colored-spool is called Mr. Jingles, he's a circus mouse if I ever saw one. And now we are leaving, on to ........................
Rating: Summary: His Best Review: My favorite Stephen King book was The Stand until the Green Mile came along. This is a great story well told. I like the serial form For a King addict like me, it is much better to have only one month instead of one year for my King fix.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King at his best! Review: I have read most of Mr. King's work over the years, and while most of his horror stories are entertaining and, indeed, quite scary, I prefer his books that get away from the horror genre. This is his best example of doing just that. While most of King's work deals with terrifying supernatural phenomenom, in this story, he turns the tables. The supernatural aspects are the good things, while the only fear comes directly from the human heart. The book takes an insider's look at death row and the extremes of human nature that pass through on their final walk down the "green mile" (hall to the electric chair). As told by Paul Edgecombe, the head of the guard staff on death row, the story takes many unexpected turns. All of the characters jump off the page and you empathize with Paul as he works to do a job that is very difficult on the human spirit. I have not yet seen the movie, but after reading this, am looking forward to it. Highly recommend this to those who already like Stephen King's work, and to those who may not. This one may change your mind!
Rating: Summary: King at his best Review: King has been known to go off the deep end with certain ideas, but this book finds him in a more reserved, understated mode. The result is extremely satisfying and touching. The supernatural element, while crucial to the story, does not completely overshadow the rest of the book. Coffey is a character like no other, and his relationship with Edgecombe is compelling. I made a point of reading this before the movie, but wish that I had done so before knowing Tom Hanks was going to play Edgecombe. Edgecombe and all of the guards (except Percy, of course) are displayed in a very human light, taking their job seriously but not deriving any pleasure or satisfaction from their grisly duties. Even during the mesmerizing ending, they keep their professionalism. Percy is the perfect person to love to hate, and classically uses his aggression and cruelty to try to hide his cowardice. I was completely gripped by the horrifying electric chair scene in the middle of the book. When it comes to prison dramas (Shawshank), King is a perfect two for two.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read! Review: I hope the movie is half as good! This book was so absorbing, I couldn't stop listening. And Frank Muller is absolutely brilliant! I highly reccommend it.
