Rating: Summary: Excellent book, not King's usual bloody horror book Review: This book doesn't match up to King's reputation of blood, guts and horror, but definitely keeps you interested as he weaves the web of deception, mystery, a little suspense, some secret powers, etc. The story has some wonderful characters and I can't wait to see the movie!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: This is one of the best book I ever read. I have spent 3 nights in a row to finish it which left me a tired face for late sleeping. The story is facinating and spectacular. This caused me slept at 5am for 3 days because I couldn't put it down! No doubt that the story was written by a well-known writer. On the other hand, however, the story is quite predictable when you read till the middle you could predict how the end of the story is.
Rating: Summary: Where do I begin? Review: Visionary. That's Stephen King. Let's look past the plot and story of The Green Mile just for a moment and look at the deep aspects that turn Story-telling into a full and beautiful Art. King has an uncanny way of describing details with such finesse and brilliance that you'll feel as though you'll experienced the story, not just read it. The plot is fantastically original! I'm shaking my head in wonder as I write this review! King also doesn't just describe his characters... He brings them to life! Right before your eyes! The plot was nicely married to the sub-plot. The story was touching and the wonders never ceased to amaze me! Brilliant stuff, Mr. King! Thank you!
Rating: Summary: Re-think your view on the Death Penalty! Review: I read this book last September and it still gives me chills when I think about it. Every twist and turn in the plot is so well written! You will definetly not be able to put it down. I cried when I was done with the book, not only because the last sentence is so moving, but because I was sad it was over with and I didn't have anything to do but think about it. John Coffey is so moving. I wish I could give him a hug. Better than the movie, read the book though and I am sure you will like the movie much more if you are a fan of the movie.
Rating: Summary: fast moving and wonderful Review: King's style wraps you up into the characters. I genuninely couldn't put down the book because I was always interested in what happened next. This is one of the best King books I've read, and I've read quite a few in my time. The psychological prose of the narrator is engaging and keep the book humming along, even when its just the character's musings. I found it much better than the movie, but I read the book first. King dealt with race and other issues well without being preachy or losing focus in his narrative. At the same time he was able to touch deeper spiritual issues.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF KING'S BEST. Review: I am delighted King decided to write this book as a complete serial, otherwise I might never have had the priviledge to read it. This book bring's the reader into a maximum security facility and introduces you to the strangest group of people you are likely to encounter. I felt the book was a bit slow to start but later realized that everything had to be explained in the order that it was done. You not only feel for the prisoners but also for the Guards that are working in an enviornment where there is no hope. John Coffey brings the King touch to the book. Here is a man anyone would feel for. You are brought to the brink of tears not only once but twice or three times. And the crimes that are detailed are gruesome to say the least. This book is in no way scary but a story of hope in the last place on earth you would expect to find it. It will have you laughing and crying and reading into the long hours of the night. Definitly one of Stephen Kings best books.
Rating: Summary: IF YOU DID NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET- DO NOT GO! Review: I AM A LITTLE STRANGE ABOUT BOOKS. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE MAKE OF A BOOK THAT I READ BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THAT MY VISION OF THE BOOK WILL BE CRUSHED. THE GREEN MILE IS ONE OF THOSE BOOKS. AS ALWAYS, KING ENVELOPS YOU AND PULLS YOU INSIDE THE ACTION, LETTING YOU EXPERIENCE WHAT THE CHARACTERS FEEL, THINK. YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF PLANINING, PLOTING, LAUGHING, CRYING WITH THEM, LOOSING SENSE OF TIME AND REALITY. 'GREAT, EXCELLENT READING.' ENJOY, AND I MEAN IT.
Rating: Summary: One of King's best! Review: I have read many of Stephen Kings books and think that The Green Mile and The Dead Zone are the best books he has ever written. It intrigues me that a man that is known for his "horror books", can write with such spirit and emotion. John Coffey almost make you beleive that miracles can, and do happen. The other characters in the story, were very beleivable, as well. I read the book, then saw the movie. Book is better, as usual, but happy that they didn't stray too far from storyline. One of the best books I have read this year!
Rating: Summary: One of the Most Moving Books of our Time Review: I have read three or four of Stephen King's books and his writings are just not my cup of tea. However, I loved this book! John Coffey has a way of making you feel not just humble but of making you hold the simple things in life in awe. We should all have the opportunity to meet a John Coffey in real life, if only for a few moments. There are parts of the book which evoke so much emotion that it is difficult to read. At the same time, it is a book that, once finished, you will never forget. Buy it or borrow it but definitely read it!
Rating: Summary: Walking the mile Review: There is something about King and prisons. I don't know what it is, but when he sets a story around one you can almost guarentee that the story is going to be good. While not exactly up to the level of Rita Hayworth and the Shanshank Redemption, it is definitely worth your time. The story of John Coffey is touching and definitely goes to show that King hasn't lost touch with humanity
