Summary: Very Good Story
Review: I have reviewed this book before, but feel the need to do it one more time. I just saw the movie and it was a close facsimile of the book. I was a NYS corrections officer for 15 1/2 years. When I read the book I imagined the Mile as the one that was at Sing-Sing. While I didn't work there in the electric chair days, the old area is still an active part of the jail in another capacity. So I had an idea of how the Mile was supposed to look and the image in my mind helped comprehend the book. Apparently most old death rows were set up the same. The interesting characters in the book and movie were enough to keep the long movie interesting. Rarely do books and their movies share so much in common. I've already reviewed it so I won't re-review it. I just wanted to shed this light on it.

Summary: Stephen King matures..
Review: Like most Americans in their 40s, I've read more Stephen King novels over the years than I care to admit. While certainly a "hit and miss" author, Stephen King is at least someone with a (sometimes out-of-control) imagination. Fortunately he puts his imagination into good use with The Green Mile.

The Green Mile is a story of a 1930s death row prison, as told by one of the supervisors. Both the prisoners and the prison guards are dissected, with both parties exhibiting the best and worst sort of behaviour imaginable. But being a Stephen King novel we, of course, expect a surreal element to the story. This is manifested with the appearance of an inmate with "special powers" (sorry, no spoilers here). However unlike many of his previous novels where he really goes off the rails, Stephen King channels his creative energy to take to book to a very moving conclusion (yes, it's almost a tear-jerker).

I wouldn't say The Green Mile is Stephen King's best work so far. However it does lead me to believe that he is finally making the step from popular fiction to literature. Job well done.

Summary: I cried for the last 46 pages
Review: A wonderful book! I'm so glad I read it before I saw the movie. This is the first book I've read by Stephen King. I loved it. I read it in a day because I couldn't put it down. The story of the prisoner condemned to death and the prison guard who suspects he's innocent is great. It has stuck with me so much I had to see the movie (and though it follows the book closely, it just doesn't compare). It's definately a great read. Be sure you have a box of Kleenex ready for the end of the book. You'll definately need it.

Summary: The Green Mile
Review: I read these books when they first came out in a series which was that one book came out each month. My dad brought me home the first one which I finished in a week, I then had to wait almost an entire month to get the next book which I finished in a week and the pattern continued till I had read the entire series. They were outstanding books and when they cut off at the end of the small book it always left you wanting more and having to wait an entire month was hard. Its a great book and I have yet to see the movie because I have decided I dont want it to ruin what I thought of the book. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Summary: THE MASTER'S BEST
Review: I too, along with many of the 348 others who have reviewed this novel for Amazon, think that this is King's best-written novel. He has combed and curried his prose here as he seldom does. Should the Library of America ever decide to add this entertaining author to its illustrious list, THE GREEN MILE is the one book of his clearly worthy of admission.

Summary: Good book-one of King's better novels
Review: I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I didn't know what to expect since this was the first novel I read by Stephen King that wasn't a true horror novel like It or The Stand. The plot kept you interested all the way through. Also, his books are always better than the movies because he has such a brilliant imagination in his writing style. Definitely recommended.

Summary: Usually not what I do, usually not what I read.
Review: I have never been a big fan of Stephen King, but after seeing the movie "The Green Mile" I just had to read the book. (Usually I would have read the book first and then watched the movie, since books are usually better)

This book brings you in from the start and I love the story line, it's very unique. The only complaint I have is that I didn't like the way it skipped back and forth, from young Paul to old Paul, but I realize this is because the book was originally written as 6 small books, so King was just summarizing what had already happened. But I usually ended up skimming through the first chapter of each section, to get back to the main story.

This is probably one of the few times I could say that I almost preffered the movie to the book. But I would still recommend the book to anyone, even if you have already seen the movie, there are some changes. And if you haven't seen the movie, read the book and then watch the movie, I guarantee you will love them both.

Summary: Heard It was good
Review: I did not read the book but heard it was very good. Based on the movie, it should be a good read.

Summary: Amazing and touching story
Review: This is one of Stephen King's finest works, where he moves away from the pure horror genre (which he does exceptionally well) and gives us an entirely different type of story. Sure its a story about a horrible subject - a murder, and set in horrible surroundings - a prison, but like "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption", the characters and the story shine through. And like the "Shawshank Redemption", the story has a wonderful ending.

This was very enjoyable when released as a 6 part serial - I waited for every book. But this book deserves to be in hardcover in every dedicated reader's library.

Summary: Walking Down the Green Mile
Review: After being charged with the raped and murder of two young girls, a black inmate of the E-Block changes the lives of many, by helping, healing, and showing respect for the men of that block and the other inmates (which they don't really expect out of such a huge man).By the end of The Green Mile this man has a connection with a certain guard. Other Stephen King books that I have read were great but none were anything like this book. When you see the name Stephen King on a book you think of a tale of a greusome horror, but when I read this book it was a completely different feeling. By the time you finish reading this book you'll feel sad for the terrible things that had happened to the people and most of all J. Coffey. I love the way this book was written. It made me feel like I was sitting across a table from Mr. Edgecomb and listening to him tell me the story of John Coffey and how he saved the lives of a young woman and Mr. Delaquiox's pet mouse Mr. Jingles. You get a sense of heartache on John Coffey's part for what happened to the two little girls, and it's like he doesn't even really mind being put on death row because it's like he feels a little responsible for their deaths because he couldn't help them. A quote from the movie that has stuck in my head is where John told Mr. Edgecomb "I tried to take it back, Boss. I tried to take it back, but it was to late." When he says this you can feel the pain he must have been feeling while he was holding the little girls in his arms trying to help them and yet he couldn't. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes Stephen king or anyone who likes reading a drama type story.
