Summary: Superb Thriller
Review: I've read many Koontz books, and this one is one of his best. I haven't read many since I was an old teenager. It was nice to read one again, as well as chilling.

The main reason for reading this book for me was because a friend told me about the Dobermans in the book. I myself am a big fan of security dogs and other Schutzhund canines. So in that respect it makes me love the book even more.

If anyone loves that type of setting for suspense, then I recommend this book highly. I think it's also a book where if one cares less about that subject matter then they'll still love the book. It's a wild ride and a fast one. I stayed up all night and missed work because I couldn't put it down.

Summary: "INTENSE"
Review: Not being a regular reader of fiction, I put off reading this book. My son urged me to read it, stating, "if you don't read it, I'll tell you how it ends." I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning finishing this book. Once I finished reading, I had trouble sleeping. This book definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. At times I felt as though I was in Chynas place. My hatred for the serial killer, Edgler Vess, compounded with each page. I do not intend to switch my reading material from non-fiction to fiction, but occasionally a good novel adds new perspective to life. Read this book!

Summary: An INTENSE masterpiece with a TWIST
Review: One moment...let me catch my breath. Phewwwwwww....

Intensity is the pinnacle of suspense, surpassing any book that I have ever read in that category. The book lives up to its name, and it is so Intense that you want to take a fifteen minute break after each of the chapters. The book never lets up, never slows down. It gets so intense that you WANT the book to slow down but at the same time you don't. The two main characters, Chyna Shepard--a inquistive young woman with a heart wrenching past--and Edglar Vess-- a frightfully intelligent killer with no remorse--are both wonderfully depicted.

The detail in Koontz's work is addicting, and you find that reading less-descriptive books dissapointing. The vocabulary he uses is fresh and deep in substance.

After finishing the edge of your seat ending you realize that you have finished a satisfying book that is worth a re-read.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: A page turner! I read several Koontz books, but this one is excellent - it manages to keep the pace without any supernatural elements coming into the story.

Summary: CREEPY...CREEPY...CREEPY!
Review: This book made me realize that I would never want to be locked into a cell with the Author, Dean Koontz, because of his ability to understand such a terrifying pshyco. This being said, this book is like looking upon something you're not supposed to, but can't turn away from. Bonechilling, horrifying, demented, and terrifying are excellent terms of description for this book. The female lead, Chyna, representing Justice and Good, definately keeps you turning the pages as you wait for her climatic confrontation with the books diabolical monster! Not for the faint of heart, but then I don't know if this book is so healthy for the rest of us either. ;)

Summary: Best of the Best
Review: I am a big fan of "thrillers", especially ones with a twist. I read Intensity several years ago and have talked about it so much I now have several people trying to find it. Our local library is a very good one, but their copies are ALWAYS checked out. This book scared me so bad I sometimes wasn't sure I could stand to read another paragraph. Sometimes I don't think I took a breath for several minutes. If readers like this kind of book and have never read this one, they have missed the best of its kind out there.

Summary: This book is intensly boring!
Review: I was recommended this book by a freind who told me it was one of the scariest and most thrilling books she had ever read. I took it home planning to read it right before going to sleep (all the more thrilling of course) and was I ever dissapointed. The first couple of chapters were okay, not great but not bad. However I soon found myself forcing myself to read anymore. This book was not only boring but I felt as though I were reading a book written for 12 year olds. In fact its style reminded me of the Goosebumps series I read when I was 12. I could not finish the book so I have no idea what happens to any of the characters, sadly I also don't care. I have never read any books by Dean Koontz, and I won't say I will never read him again, but I will be wary before trying another Koontz book. If I want thrills and chills I will stick to Stephen King whom judging by this book, appears to be a superior writer to Koontz.

Summary: Bravo! Koontz does it again!
Review: This is my second-favorite book of Dean Koontz's (the first being Phantoms) and I guarantee that this will have your heart pounding faster and faster with every page you turn. The story is interesting and the characters have so much depth. The killer is utterly deranged and Koontz shows this so well that it made the hairs of my neck stand on end, and Chyna, the heroine, is my favorite character in any Koontz book so far. I defiantely recommend this!

Summary: Appropriately Named!
Review: First off, the paperback copy I own has a much more 'intense' cover, flourescent yellow and orange in an eye catching design. Very intense. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat like nothing I've ever read.

Edgler Vess is a homicidal maniac that wants to 'experience' everything life has to offer, viewing nothing as good or bad but purely an experience; enjoying it all. Chyna Sheperd is a friend of the family he has most recently killed and has the intent of saving his next intended victim from his murderous wrath. Understanding each persons thoughts is foremost in Dean Koontz's mind and the story takes place so much in the minds of the protaganist and the antagonist that there is some 'intense' irony and excitement is created. As well, the detail involved in Chyna's memories, to the characters he's describing to their surroundings are all described to the nth degree, giving you a better understanding of the circumstances of this intense on-going event.

I loved this book and was so very disappointed when they turned it into a made-for-tv movie. As we all know, Hollywood, can never seem to capture the true essence of a book on film, but in this case it was especially poor. The main theme of this book is Intensity and without conveying the thoughts and fears of the characters you are unable to really get the feeling of excitement. As well, the tv movie also took certain liberties with the details that I found annoying and wrapped it up with a very anti-climactic ending.

Avoid the made-for-tv movie and settle in with the real goods with the book. It'll be intense.
