Summary: Another serial killer...it's enough now!
Review: As everybody on this page reviews the book favourably, am I the only one who can't stand serial killer anymore? We've had enough of them, I think! But the biggest problem of the book for me was: Chyna wasn't characterized well enough so that I could feel for her. Normally, Dean Koontz creates wonderful characters where the reader DEFENITELY has to know what happens to them (check out WATCHERS or Mr. MURDER), but I didn't care for Chyna very much. The book kicks into gear to fast, I don't know her well enough. And Edglar Vess, although a scary villain, stands in a long row of serial killers who haunted books and films for the last fifteen years so that he doesn't stand out. Technically, the book is ok, the style is efficient as always in the books of Dean Koontz, but, well I didn't find this book INTENSE and so I can't recommend it, although it's from one of my favourite authors..

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Horrifically suspenseful and wonderfully terrifying .
Review: The character of Edgeler Forman Vess is your minds worst creation and he is haunting throughout the book and even after you put the book down. Terrifically terrifying and suspenseful. It's like the accident you don't want to look at, but you do anyway. The story is so frightening, but you keep reading anyway. This is by far the best Mr. Koontz has written so far. You feel for the main character, Chyna and you gasp, when she gasps and you pray that she makes it. The reading is adddictive, so set aside a block of time if you plan on reading this book, because you won't want to put it down

Summary: Finally, a real "page-turner"
Review: "Intensity" was my first Koontz book. As an avid reader of thriller novels, I was mildly amused and entirely not surprised by the ubiquitous byline which invariably appears on all books of this genre: "You will not be able to put this book down". Well, my cynicism proved to be wrong this time. This is truly the first book which I could not put down, from page 1. Regrettably, I started it at 11pm, so obviously I did not get much sleep that night. Koontz uses a simple yet effective method to lure his readers to read on - he doesn't give you a minute to pause and take a breath. Amenities such as taking a break for "nature calls" are out of the question; you'll have to take the book with you. His clever use of different tenses for the two main characters (Chyna-Past;Vess-Present) adds a nice touch, as do the mysterious coastal elks (although it is to be regretted this theme has not been developed further). I agree, it is a predictable book, but then again - aren't almost all thriller novels predictable? What makes "Intensity" better than average is the fulfillment of the "you will not put this book down" promise. Read this book, but don't start it late at night!

Summary: Simply the most thrilling book since Coma.
Review: The killer is loose and he is being hunted. This story of mouse chasing cat is out of this universe. When a young woman spends the night at a friends' house, she finds herself the only survivor of a slaughter gone rampant. Now Chyna Shepherd is the lone survivor, the only witness to the gruesome murders. Feeling inexplicably drawn to finding out who the murderer is and ending his reign of terror, Chyna Shepherd finds herself chasing the killer across the state and down the dark alleyways of his psychotic dementia. During the terrible twenty-four hours that follow, she must face her own frailties, face her deepest fears, and most frighteningly of all; chase the serial killer back to his own front door. Kate Burton gives a dramatic reading of a spellbinding book that probes the darkest parts of the human soul. The feeling she puts into the audio rendition makes you feel as if you are there in the car with the killer, as if it were your own skin being torn at by killer dogs. Kate Burton makes this a truly unique listening experience. The great story combined with the equally great dramatization brings this audio book to the forefront of modern horror fiction.

Summary: Intensity is aptly named!
Review: As a Bedtime reader, I usually nod off after about 10 pages of a novel. Intensity, however, is the type of story that rivets the reader with a desire to keep reading until a conclusion. Edgler Vess is simply demonic, and Chyna inspires courage although some of her actions stretch the limits of rationability

Summary: Pure caffeine!
Review: Full of McGyver-isms, this book leaves no time to sleep until you reach its predictable end. The psi-profile of the characters looks like done by the Marquis of Sade: the good-beaten-tormented-and-virtuous victim confronts the powers of the ultimate, most perverted criminal. Don't sweat it, she wins. If you like Koontz, you'll enjoy it.

Summary: Not impressed.
Review: For the record, this is the first Dean Koontz book I had read and I read it because my girlfriend loves this author. I found the book to be fairly predictable and was annoyed with the stupidity of the main character. I really did not enjoy the author's style and found the book to be overflowing with flowery descriptions and irrelevant information. After hearing praises about the work of this author, I must admit that I am very disappointed. I guess his style is something you either love or hate...I hate it. -BG

Summary: He's done better.
Review: I'm a guy. I spoke to a woman who loved it. Our concensus is that this story grabs a woman moreso than a guy. I got frustrated that Chyna Shepard was so stupid to continue following. I also didn't get the idea of the coastal elk and how it affected Vess. Comments?

Summary: Too Good!
Review: It makes you wonder if scary people like Vess actually exist

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Now I can breathe again!
Review: Be sure to take your blood pressure medication before you read the first line! I haven't been this excited by a book since I first discovered John Grisham and _The Firm_. The characterizations were exceptional and the pace was incredible. Dean Koontz's best without a doubt
