Rating: Summary: Scarin' the heck out of you! Review: It was a great book and it kept me reading through the whole thing. I recommend this book highly to everyone who likes a good mystery.
Rating: Summary: Over written and not even deserving of one star Review: I have read a lot of Koontz's earlier works, but stoped about 6 years ago as they begain to be so very predictable. A friend, who agreed with me, insisted that I give Intensity a chance. They said it was comparable to Koontz'z old work and worthy of my time. WRONG. This book is so over written, I couldn't even finish it. No author should abuse the reader in this way. It was a total insult. I'm just happy I bought it on a sale table for $5.00, instead of paying the original full price.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but not great Review: This was the first Koontz book that I have read and it was ok. There were parts that were spooky, but there were also too many parts about what Chyna was thinking which was boring. The last part could have been better too.
Rating: Summary: AWSOME, POWERFUL, MIND NUMBING, INTENSE !!!!!!!! Review: First of all ALWAYS buy your books from AMAZON.COM. This book was great!!! I have a 1 hour trip to work (1way) and I got this book on tape. Sometimes I would be late for work because I sat in my car listening to this wonderful book. Then I would go home and sit in my car until the tape ran out. If you like drama, mystery, great writing this is the book for you. The lady that narrates this book does and excellant job at making you part of this book. You are Chyna, you are Fugi, your are this book. I would sit and guess what would happen next, but never was right about the outcome. I like that fact that a book is written soooo well, that I indeed have to read (listen) to all of it to know what happened. That itself is a great way to tell Dean Koontz is indeed a "MASTER AUTHOR". This book is a must!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: most of the time exciting, other times very boring Review: for the most part, Intensity was a great story. Had great characters, Vess is very interesting. I thought the parts where Koontz spent page after boring page about Chyna's past was terribal. Other than that, i thought it was great.
Rating: Summary: Bored first time reader of Koontz Review: I bought this book because I needed something to read on the airplane. I had a friend who used to rave about Koontz and I had heard a lot of positive comments about this particular title so I decided to read it. UGH! What a waste of money. I was interested in the first 75 pages or so, but then it got so predictable. And give me a break, no matter how "intense" your childhood was, you would not keep following a serial killer so that justice can be served. I can't even finish the book because Chyna is so stupid. This is my first and last read of Koontz. It is downright awful. I'm curious to know what kind of rubbish the people who gave this book 5 stars normally read so I can skip that too.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: First of all let me sat that out of all the DRK that I've read this is my fave. This may even be my fave book of all time (so far at least) I found that characters very interesting even though I did not agree with many of the choices that Chyna made. I found Vess very interesting rather than scary and I really liked hearing his point of view on things, really he was very.... odd I suppose is the only way to describe him. My advice is that if you are looking for supense you'll find it here but if your looking for a book to scare you then you might want to go somewhere else. ( Even though I know tons of people would disagree with me and say this book terrified them)Kay
Rating: Summary: Stupidity Review: "Other writers might do well to examine his technique" says one book critic of Dean Koontz's "Intensity." God, I hope they won't, because the techniques that Koontz employed in this book are simply infuriating. There is a good plot line here, but Koontz pads it out with superfluous ancedotes that the various characters of the story have supposedly experienced. Whenever this happened, I simply skipped the 20 or so pages of pointless obscurity and tried to pick up the plot sometime later in the book. This book could certainly have used a good editor. About 250 pages of the text wouldn't have gotten past a judicious editor armed with red pen and machete. What make the padding so irritating is that once again, as with most of his later work, Koontz uses his books to preach to his readers. Nobody has yet had the courage to tell him that preaching is a sure recipe for boredom. High time that Koontz came back down to earth. As I said earlier, the plot is good, but it's not very imaginative. S&M seems to be the order of the day, with all sorts of gruesome punishments being threatened, but nothing carried out. You've seen it all before, done better. And as for those bloody dogs! After wanting to pummel that stupid Rocky Dog to death in "Dark Rivers of the Heart" I tool a certain perverse pleasure in seeing the heroine of this book systematically destroying the guard-dogs in this book. Maybe soon, Koontz might get a dog of his own so that he can live out his dog fantasies in private, and spare his readers from having to put up with them in his books. However, not all of Koontz's catalogue is that bad. Once excellent book you should read is "Mr Murder." Also, give "Whispers" a go. By the way, if you do like dogs, you'll want to read "Watchers" which is the only time where Koontz's experiments with animal characters actually work, but he should have knocked the dogs on the head after that novel.
