Rating: Summary: The best book I'll ever read. Review: I'm in 8th grade. This is my frist "adult" book. I doubt I will ever find a book of this quality again. I found it very interesting. Chyna was such a real charecter, and Vess was the ultimate villan. I have read 100 page books that have taken me months to finish because I couldnt get into it. With Intensity I could get into it so eaisly and finished it in 2 weeks. I would like to thank Dean Koontz for writing the best book ever. I will continue to read more of his books but I doubt I will ever read a book,in my lifetime, as good as intensity.
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read. Review: Brillently woven story of suspense and integration of real feelings make this a book I couldn't put down. Very talented writter, I wish i would have discovered him long before last years vacation when I found this incredible paperback.
Rating: Summary: One star is far too generous.... Review: I, like another customer, bought this book to read on an airplane, and like yet another reader, I'm thankful that I spent only five bucks in a discount bin for this dreadfully predictable and un-intense book.
Rating: Summary: wish I'd read it first! Review: Well from all these excellent reviews I wish I'd read it before I saw the movie!! I saw it 2 nights ago (from 1 till 4 in the morning!!) on cable and thought it was absolutely brilliant!! I haven't been able to think of much else besides it since then!! Now I read these reviews saying that the book is better than the movie, and feel bad 'cause if I read it it won't hold the suspense because I already know what's going to happen!! I hadn't heard of Koontz before I saw the movie, so I plan to read his books from the things people are saying about them (once I finish the Raymond Feist series).
Rating: Summary: Suspense of the highest order Review: I'm not really familiar with Koontz' work, but a friend of mine lent me this book about two years ago and I read it in about two days flat (a rare feat for me). This is an extremely accomplished thriller that will keep you turning the pages until you're finished. Koontz has created the quintessential villain with the Vess character. A terrifying, truly spooky suspense novel. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Very Scarey Review: Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. Read it straight through. A few parts really had my heart pumpimg.
Rating: Summary: THE Best! No comparison. Review: This was and is the best book I've ever read and probably will ever read. From page one to the end I could not put it down. Fast-paced, heart-thumping action all the way through. I recommend it to ANYONE who wants to escape reality for a few hours. Please email me if you know of any others that can compare to this. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Not very good Review: I have read several Dean Koontz novels. Some are excellent (Phantoms, The Face of Fear) and most are fairly good (Midnight, Dark Rivers of the Heart, Icebound). Unfortunately, some are just not worth finishing (Dragon Tears). This book is one I finished, but is not a good example of Koontz' work. It was billed as extremely intense and Mr. Koontz even says it was the most intense to write (end notes in 'Tick Tock'). Overwrought is a better description. The sequence of events happening in a 24 hour time span just do not generate enough copy to fill the number of pages necessary for a big novel. This tale would have been better as a short story. The interest level dropped after the first few chapters due to extreme repetitiveness. I would recommend many other Koontz books, but not this one.
Rating: Summary: The best Koontz I've ever read. Review: This was the first Koontz book that I've ever read. I read it a few years ago, and it was awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was in for a real treat. It was so fast pace; the writing is nonstop. A great read.
Rating: Summary: Intense, Yes, but not necessarily the plot Review: I have enjoyed reading Koontz for over 10 years. My daughter bought this book for me as a gift since she knows I like Koontz. It was INTENSE, in that I really felt for Chyna and wanted her to get this guy, but various actions/themes were also TOO INTENSE to follow! Chyna's past began to lose its INTENSITY and became monotonous, since the episodes were repeated again and again. I actually thought of a lot of things that could have happened to her with a mother like hers, that could have made the story a little more interesting rather than rehashing the same details (cockroach in hair, etc.). More varied epidodes of her life would have been a little more interesting. Also, I thought I wouuld give up the book entirely when it came to the descriptions of Chyna chained to the table (was the chain around the table, through the back of the chair, up one spindle, down another, attached to a carbine here, to the back of the chair then the front of the chair, then reattached to another chain to another carbine.... come on, come on, already, she was chained to a chair, she freed herself, enough already! I think Koontz's purpose of all this description was to develop INTENSITY, but honestly, I found myself thinking about the necessity of drawing a diagram! I give the story 3 stars becaue it did live up to its name, and I honestly did feel the intensity of Chyna's situation, but not my favorite Koontz. Also, don't think I want to watch the Fox movie either.
