Summary: INTENSE!
Review: The novel Intensity, which is written by Dean Koontz is a great novel. It is action-packed and very intense. This is probably one of the most appropriately titled books I have ever read. "Intensity" pours out of this book at a relentless and sometimes uncomforting pace. The main character, Chyna Shepherd, is an innocent 26 year old who is staying at a family friends house for the night when a homicidal sociopath, Edgler Foreman Vess, enters the home expecting to kill everyone who was there. Chyna Shepherd who is the only person he doesn't kill in the house, she gets in his RV and realizes that the next person who Vess is going to kill is innocent girl. Something inside her drives her to not only survive, but be a savior. This book is the best book I have ever read and I suggest that anyone who likes action-packed mysteries should read this book right away.

Summary: Great read!
Review: A great read!

I truly enjoyed reading this It's a rarity these days to find an author capable of such good storytelling. The story is well written and very engaging, and despite the fact that it lost some momentum in the middle, I found myself eagerly turning pages to find out what would happen next. All in all, though this is not quite a perfect novel, it comes close.

Summary: Excellent Read
Review: I got this book as a Valentine's Day gift from my husband last year when I was cooped up in bed for a week with pneumonia. He buys me a couple of new books a year and knows that I absolutely love to read anything by Dean Koontz.
I have to say I have read this book 4 times and everytime it gets better. It is so riveting that I literally finished it within 4 hours. The pace of the book was terrific, not too fast and not too slow. The characters are excellent.
The writing is so good, it seems like you are there in the story too. I found this book one of the best I have read in a while. I do recommend this to anyone.

Summary: My First Dean Koontz Experience..and a Great One!
Review: Just finished the book this morning and it was fabulous. I heard about Koontz for many years and wanted to finally give him a try. A friend of mine told me this was the best book of his for a newcomer to get started with, so I took his advice. I finished this book in a little less than a week, which is extremely fast for me. I just couldn't put it down when I planned to. I like how smart and resourceful the main character Chyna was, she wasn't just some dumb helpless heroine. And the killer, Edgler Vess, makes Hannibal Lector seem like a toddler. Vess is both scary and extremely disturbing in the way he thinks and the things he does. The book is very fast paced, but the only small flaw I found is when Chyna is trying to escape from the chair she has been chained to, which covers about 40 pages. This part could have easily been shortened to keep the story flying forward. Also, Chyna has way to many close calls between her and the killer in the first half of the story. Nobody is that lucky. But these are just small details that I really didn't like. Overall, this thriller is one of the best I ever read. Even though it can be a bit unrealistic at times, it is never boring and always entertaining. Now on to my second Koontz book..Lightning!

Summary: The best of Koontz
Review: I am a huge Koontz fan. I have read just about every single book he has ever written as Koontz and under his "ghost name" before he became big. This book, Intensity, is absolutely the best work (along with Watchers) that Koontz has every released. The suspense, his detailed descriptions of each scene, the absolute horror of the character is portrayed perfectly. There was not one part of this book that I felt should be removed. I continue to look forward to all the books to come...although I'm sure none will compare to the excellence of Intensity.

Summary: Biting your nails
Review: That's what you'll be doing- biting your nails. Koontz is one of the best writers of suspense & anything scary, out there. This is one of his better, more recent books. Vess is the epitemy of evil.

Summary: Good, but not Koontz's best
Review: When I read the synopsis on the jacket flap of the bookcover, it had me expected a fast-paced thrill ride of a novel. I was wrong. While the basic story is good, and at times frightening, the tale seemed to inch along at an extremely slow pace. Pages and pages go by at a time with no dialogue, which at times make this book hard to read. As I neared the end of the book, I was practically struggling to get it finished. Don't get me wrong-- I love Koontz (Whispers is probably my favorite of his novels), but I just didn't think Intensity lived up to my expectations. True, Chyna is a fantastic heroine, and we get to know a lot about her. But do we need to know every single thing the character does in the book? I may be too harsh, but the book wasn't at all as intense as I thought it was going to be. I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to people who love their books packed with dialogue, but to people who like a well-written and sometimes gruesome horror story.

Summary: This one hooked me on to Koontz
Review: I was going on a road trip and decided to listen to Intensity (audio - book on tape) on my way to pass the time. I was hooked and even after I reached my destination, I had to bring the tapes inside with me so I could finish the "book." Needless to say, I was scared but couldn't turn it off. I would definately recommend the audio tape - it makes the book that much scarier and the actor who does the reading did a great job.

This is my first Koontz book and certainly won't be the last. I also recommend Lightening and Strangers by Koontz.

Summary: Thrilling, Suspensful, Wonderful....
Review: This book is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. If you have read the book, make sure you see the movie as well. If you are a huge book and movie buff like I am, and hate it when a movie comes along that is supposed to be based on a book and the two have nothing in common. This was a totally different experience, eventhough the movie is 6 hours long it goes into deatil just like the book did. I recommend it to anyone who wants a great thrill.

Summary: Lives Up to Its Title
Review: Koontz's "Intensity" is a very fast paced story and a "page turner" in every sense.

Chyna Shepard is visiting her only friend, Laura; Chyna is witness to the murder of Laura and her family. Seeking to stop the serial killer, Edgler Foreman Vess, before he strikes again, Chyna goes after him, and she is eventually captured by Vess. From then, the story lives up to its title as Chyna takes advantage of a limited opportunity to escape from Vess's home while hoping to save another of Vess's hostages, Ariel.

Apart from Koontz's poor ability to select names for his characters, Koontz's attention to detail is very good and his prose is often poetic and observant. Highly recommended!
