Summary: This book still haunts me
Review: I listened to this audio a few months ago, and it made such an impression I think I can recite parts of it verbatim, although I heard it only once. Ironically, I put off listening to it at first because the story outline as described (accurately) on the box didn't sound particularly interesting, and it wouldn't sound any more intriguing if I tried to go over it here. But that's the enigma of this book. The two lead characters have no overt supernatural powers; they have no horns or tails or claws; they have no connection to another planet, another century, another species (you'd be proud to bring that homicidal maniac home to mama), but I was so totally spooked I loved it. Kate Burton's performance had a lot to do with my enjoyment of this classic. Her quiet, almost monotone delivery is the perfect way to sustain the degree of tension in which one can't help being enmeshed. This is a keeper.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I've said before that koontz doesn't write to impress any literary guilds; he writes to sell novels.

Usually, they are worth the price, but 'Intensity' was so dragged-out and unbelievable, and so slow-moving that I never really finished it. I got close, but I could see where it was going and so I finally just stuck it in a drawer.

If you want Koontz, there are many better ones to choose from. Don't bother with this one.

Summary: Wow, wow, wow!
Review: This is definitely in my top 5 favorite Koontz books. Not quite number 1, but up there. Koontz takes his writing to a whole new level in Intensity, focusing on just two characters for most of the story. Often there are four or more characters to keep up with in his stories, and the fact that Intensity has only two really important ones, and that it covers a very short time span, make it extremely personal. You really get to know Chyna and Edgler, sometimes more than you would like to. Edgler's real-world occupation was a bit of a shock, and he is chillingly normal, your next-door neighbor, the cute guy at work, someone you run into in the grocery store. Chyna at first is a bit of an enigma, but as she grows through the story, you find yourself really pulling for her, almost yelling at the book so she can "hear" your advice (kinda like with scary movies, telling the actors "No! Not in there, the bad guy's in there!"). A definite must read for die-hard Koontz fans and new readers alike.

Summary: Great!
Review: This book was great. It will surely have your heart pounding on several occasions. A little wordy at times & some repetition of the back-flashes. Overall - highly recommended!

Summary: Incredible
Review: I actually listened to this novel on a "book on tape" while driving a train on an all night run. I love Dean Koontz' work and Intensity is Koontz at his best. Even though I was up all night, I couldn't get to sleep after hearing this tale, as I kept having nightmares when I started to drift off! Koontz places you inside the mind of a serial killer and that of the average woman that tries to end his deadly spree. He does it in a way that is entirely plausible and realistic. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Impressive
Review: Another excellent piece of writing from Koontz. He just dives right in, beginning the suspense right off the bat, with the action beginning within the first 20 pages. You start thinking of what action, defensive and offensive, needs to be taken simultaneously with the heroine. There is also a lot of solid cat-and-mouse plotting, with Chyna and Vess trying to out-maneuver each other. It's also always nerve-wracking when you know something that the Hero doesn't know, and you can predict what and when Bad Things are going to happen. Great encounter with the dobermans, and Vess makes an awesome "common man" villain.

Probably the only flaw was that I was able to figure out the final twist about 40 pages beforehand. Other than that, this is classic Koontz.

Summary: The Title Says It All
Review: Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite Koontz titles. I have the unabriged audiobook and bought the book as well. I could not believe how entranced I was with the slow, agonizing, unfolding of the plot. WHEW

Summary: Intensity
Review: I chose this book for a book report because it was recommendedby a friend. I thought it was fabulous. I've read many of thesereviews and many say it was intense. Okay, to be original, this bookwas more than that. It creeped me out because Vess (the antagonist) was real. He was the man living next to me, a teacher at my school, that uncle no one ever sees. He could be anyone. The book made me realize bad guys are not always strange old men who spend all day thinking of ways to kill people. They have jobs, families and friends just like you and me. That is why this book scared me. As for many of the people who didn't think it was so great, I can agree with you on a few points, but I don't agree they made the book a bad one. The chair. Yes, there is a point in the book where the protagonist, Chyna, attempted to get out of a chair. It was totally boring, and made me want to pull my hair out, but, Mr. Koontz obviously thought very long and hard about this act, and he deserves some respect for that. Many also argue that pace was all over the place. Well I say, come on. This was a semi- realistic book. Life does not follow a pace. Murders do not follow a pace... Let's not over analyze, okay? The book was a good one...

Summary: What an apt title - this book was INTENSE!
Review: My first Koontz read and I was hooked! If there was ever a definition of "suspense novel", this is it. I couldn't put it down and I have read a lot of so called suspense novels, but this one is the ultimate! Wonderful read and enjoyed every moment of this intense novel! My heart raced with the heroine of this novel every minute of the way. The detailed descriptions during moments in the book when the killer didn't know of her existence were enough to start butterflies in my stomach... I hope Koontz's other books are as enjoyable as this one.

Summary: Makes your skin crawl in a good agonizing intense way!
Review: I had always wanted to become a reader but I never could find anything that could hold me beyond the first couple of chapters. I picked up this book at a thrift shop used simply because of it's cool cover and the title. I'd never heard of Koontz. I now would like to thank Dean for turning me into a voracious thriller reader! This is the book thad did it for me. It's really evil stuff! Agonizing detail. You wish he would just get to the point, but no, Koontz must build the intensity to the point of madness several times in this book. Totally unforgetable images are permenatly scared in my gray matter.
