Rating: Summary: An unforgettable and haunting tale of passion. Review: Tale of the Body Thief is one of the best books I have ever read. I've started others written by Anne Rice, but wasn't as impressed as I was with this one. I think she is in her best form when she writes in the first person, as she does in Body Thief. I like the way she lets us look into the darkest depths of the human soul through the eyes of the vampire Lestat. The book is erotic, but in subtle ways. You won't find any vivid sex scenes, but better yet, you will feel desires and anquish of the characters.
Rating: Summary: Favourite Vampire Chronical so far Review: The fourth book in the series, and so far my favourite. I love the dog in this book! But more to the point, Lestat has decided to become a mortal again for 48 hours...if you want to know what happens, read it for yourself. Features Vampires Louis and the ghost of Claudia, also features Lestats new friend David, form Queen of the Damned.
Rating: Summary: You don't know what you have until you lose it Review: I really enjoy reading Anne's vampire cronicles, and this book gave me the possibility of seeing Lestat as a normal human being and I found that even as a common mortal he is special that is why he is a special vampire.
Rating: Summary: The Tale Of The Boring Thief!! Review: I can't believe what I read in this book. As stated before in previous reviews this is not one of Anne Rice's best novel. Where shall I begin? Anne if you ever read this, PLEASE keep your descriptions BRIEF! Why must we suffer through twenty pages of how a room looks or how a book looks, etc. I loved the first book, of course. VL is a little silly with Lestat as a rock star. QD tends to rambling on at times but finds its way back to the plot again. But The Tale Of The Body Thief nearly lost me as a fan. I had to force myself to complete the book. The biggest turn off was Lestat forcing himself on David making him a vampire. Although David never admitted it out loud, there was a sense that he wanted Lestat to give him the "Dark Gift." As a fan I wanted it to happen with a loving and respectful story line full of the intensity and desire from waiting so long. It was disappointing to read Rice's words of shameless dribble. She began this disappoi! nting road with Lestat forcing himself on one women and taking the virginity of another. The idea of Lestat being so curious of becoming human again he doesn't consider that the body thief wouldn't be true to his word is ridiculous. Lestat is impulsive but I've never mistaken him as an idiot. The fact that a con artist could fool him out of his body but the greater powers of the elders could not stop him is a bit much. I love to read the passion and urgency of Rice's books (without the drawn out lectures of non sense) and this book lacks passion. I would like to continue but will close by saying if you need to settle your curiosity of the vampire chronicles then buy the paper back but you're not missing much. I would actually rate this book at 2 1/2 stars. It did have its moments.
Rating: Summary: Rice has done it again! Review: I've read this book twice in less than two months and I loved it just as much as the first time. Each character is so real.
Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: This was the first Anne Rice book I read, and I thought it was just great. Yes she's done much better work but this was my first. And the first Anne Rice book you read is always very special.
Rating: Summary: This book was great! Review: The most recent reviews view this book as a dissapointment. Personally, I thought this book was very good. I liked the new twist it gave to the Vampire Chronicles. I got a kick outta Lestat being fooled by a body thief.
Rating: Summary: not her best... Review: an excellent book, but not the best in the series. Lestat did wine too much and I got a little tired of everyone being able to just toss Lestat around...it just seemed as if the mortals were (at times) more powerful than he was. I did like the part about God and the Devil in the cafe...it made me think.
Rating: Summary: Christina from London, not impressed Review: Yes, I'm afraid I'm the odd one out who doesn't find Tale of the Body Thief a fantastic read. First of all, David Talbot gay!?, give us a break! Reading this new development in the Vampire Chronicles made me realise how much they are starting to have plots as ridiculous as Dallas. If we had been given hints in Queen of the Damned of his homosexual inclinations, well, then it would have been credible, but not this way, out of the blue. What next? Lestat and Talbot have a baby and call him Adonis?
Rating: Summary: Plot and character development top-notch in this chronicle. Review: If I had to select one chronicle to take with me to a desert island, The Tale of the Body Thief would be it. This book resolves the question of whether Lestat was psychologically traumatized when forced into vampirism. His need to recapture mortal life before actually choosing to remain a monster is the basis for a spectacular journey, complete with a Golden Shepherd and copious allusions to the American classic "It's a Wonderful Life." His scenes with Louis and David are surprising, and a guest appearance from Claudia's ghost is a welcome insight into the development of Lestat's morals. But I, for one, am glad Rice did not stop with the little candle in the cathedral. The final chapter is a breathtaking conclusion to Lestat's scene with Magnus in the Vampire Lestat, only this time the roles are delightfully reversed. I only wished Rice would have stopped with this one. What an amazing tale.
