Summary: Good verses Evil
Review: The teamwork of King & Straub have created a brilliant work of good verses evil. Without giving the plot away, it’s a story of parallel worlds, dying mother, wicked uncle, sickly cousin, wolfs (werewolves good and bad), a long journey, evil creatures and goodness and light.

Definitely a book to read. The beginning it very descriptive and fairly slow to start, but do not let that put you off.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Very, very good.
Review: The Talisman has more in common with other books by King such as Eyes of the Dragon & the Dark Tower series (in terms of style), rather than the horrifying novels he's best known for. I tend to be less familiar with Struab, having only read Ghost Story some years aso, however the collaboration is a good one.

The novel is reasonably fast-paced with few dry spots. It sucked me in as all good tales should & left me dying to read the follow-up, Black House. The Talisman is a must for any King/Straub fan, or anyone pining for a good fantasy spin.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This book is great. As soon as I was done I had to read Black House, which continues this story. Anyone who has read The Tommyknockers may remember the young boy on the beach, and that is the main character of this book. Stephen King tells an excellent story, but it is massive if you realize the significance this has to the Dark Tower series, and with that all of Stepehn King's Universe. He definitly knows how to pull you in.

Summary: Run!
Review: The year was 1991 and I was practically destitute, renting a room from a Pakistani family for $$$ bucks a month. I was working at the local theater as an usher; my monthly take was about $$$, so every penny counted. I was at a thrift store and this book was glaring at me with a ten-cent price tag. I was familiar with his movies and was told that "Four Seasons" and "The Stand" were good reads. Ten cents was right in my price range. I spent too much. I want my money back.

Reading this book was like gagging on shovel full of maggots. Besides the fact that is was the only book I owned at the time, I forced myself to finish this laborious piece of trash because I believed at some point it would be getting better. I was grossly mistaken. The last page of this book should have read, "If you have finished this book please induce vomiting". Every self-respecting novelists from the past 5000 years should raise from the dead and tear Stephen King to pieces.

If you have never read a King book DO NOT start with this one. I have been turned off from his childish drivel forever (Thank the dark gods above). I am now convinced the only reason his movies are any good are because he has absolutely no involvement with the creative process.

I hope Mr. King never sees this review because he will probably be inspired to write a tedious, juvenile and stagnant 10,000 page novel about how legendary authors from the past come alive to exact revenge on some worthless contemporary hack, that has diarrhea of the pen.

Do not read this book if there is another book within a hundred feet of you.

Summary: The Talisman: One Magnificent Epic!
Review: The Talisman is a magnificent coming of age story in which a twelve year old boy must brave the perils of both this world and its malicious inhabitants, as well as those of a parallel world called The Territories in order to save his mother's life. Jack Sawyer, the main character, exhibits a kind of courage that one sees all too little of these days. It's the sort of story that one really hates to see end. I hope that this is the beginning of a long-running series.

Summary: This is a daunting book, but it gets better....trust me
Review: At first the book is slow and incoherent. The first several chapters in this monster ~700 page book are establishing the characters and ideals. Once that is out of the way, things get interesting. And at that point you can't stop reading it until you're done, at which point you may become bored with all your newly found free time. This book is highly entertaining and is worth reading, even for those not terribly fond of King, Straub, or horror books, as this is more about fantasy than it is about horror.

Summary: Great fantasy , really gets you there
Review: when i first read the cover of this book i didn't know what to expect as with some of Mr. King's books the story is not always on the back cover, but as i started to read he took me back to a place in my childhood where i fantasized and acted on impulse and felt like i was free, and before i knew it i had read the whole book and it was suddenly daylight outside, and the funny thing was i had spent all night reading and being back in a fantasy world i wasn't even tired, though that is no excuse for not getting your homework done.If you really want to feel like a kid again and remember how inherently scary some of those decisions you made when you were a kid actually turned out to be read this book, but save some for later you know too much of a good thing is like reading a King novel not necesarily bad for you but you don't feel like a virgin no more.

Summary: Tighter editing would be nice
Review: "The Talisman" is a good tale but it could have been better if some portions were trimmed back. I should imagine that further editing would have resulted in a 50 page tightening and a much better story. Further it seemed too convenient for Jack to 'flip' to an alternate 'territory' whenever he got into a tight spot. After a number of these timely 'flips' I felt as though King was copping out rather than devising a more 'real' escape. Wolfie was cool! Wolf!!

Summary: On a mission.
Review: This is the first Steven King novel I have read and I plan to read many more. I couldn't stop reading. The book was not what I expected. There is a connoisseur like after taste that is liberating. What an adventure Jack Sawyer had compared to his name sake of Tom. If you liked Tom Sawyer and his adventures you will find this listen intriguing. Just like Tom Sawyer disturbed the people of his day, Steven King's Talisman makes the same impact. I love it and want more of it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of My Top Ten King Books
Review: This book was always a favorite of mine. I recently reread it, and I realized all over again why I loved it. It is a truly great epic, a coming of age story about a young boy who faces his fears of the unknown and his mother's death. Jack Sawyer is an inspiration, with his adult and childlike views of the world, friends, family, and sense of duty.
