Rating: Summary: Simply amazing Review: I have read everything by Stephen King, and this is easily the best. Even better than It. I haven't read anything by Peter Straub, so I didn't notice any conflicting writing styles, mainly because it flows along perfectly. It is very vivid, entertaining and engaging. You won't be able to put it down.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This was a great book with an interesting plot. It had all of the details and regular explanation of every event that normally comes with a Stephen King book. Peter Straub's writing was also evident through character's feelings and a description of emotions that King often lacks. There were many interesting obstacles, though I felt that the time that Jack and Wolf was imprisoned could easily have been removed with no extesive damage to the plot.Overall, I would say that it was a great novel.
Rating: Summary: Touching, Thrilling, and over-all GREAT Review: I first read "The Talisman" by Stephen King and Peter Straub when I was 14. I am now 24 and it remains one of my favorite books of all time! Following one boy's journey through space and time to find a cure to save his mother's life, this book will make you laugh and cry. It is touching and I highly recommend it for anyone - fan of S. King/P. Straub or not.
Rating: Summary: remember Peter Straub Review: All of you reviewers out there need to remember that half of this book was written by Peter Straub. This book is fantastic, but just remember that Stephen King and Peter Straub wrote this together.
Rating: Summary: This is my favorite book Review: I read The Talisman earlier this year and I'm reading it again. I loved this book so much, and I think my opinion is actually based upon the fact that I felt strangly connected to Jack, not just personality wise, but i felt as if I was Jack Sawyer!! With that fact it just made the whole reading experiance better. I would definitly recomend this book to people, it has many great parts. It includes horror, fantasy, and tradgedy. For example when Wolf died, I was very sad and cried my self. In conclusion this is the best book I have ever read in my 14 years of life and i plan on reading it again and again.
Rating: Summary: This would make a great movie Review: Like most Stephen King and Pete Straub books, this is great on idea but dry on execution. The concept is magnificent, about a boy who must save the world by travelling through The Territories, a small scale Fantasy America. Fatherless Jack Sawyer must find the Talisman, a magical object, to save his mother, who is dying of cancer. Like The Stand by King and The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker, this a great book about America. Straub's style is evident here, with a lot of hallucination-type sequences and fantasy. If this were ever to be made into a movie, it would be spectacular. But as a book, sometimes it drags because of the overly detailed writing, and I found myself skimming and skipping pages. But the details would transfer beautifully on the big screen.
Rating: Summary: it's beautiful Review: This is one of my favorite books ever. I am a great fan of SK and this is one of his greatest work. This book has touched me in a way no book ever did. I have read it a few times and each time I enjoyed it more. I'm not much older than Jack (17) but I know that I would have had trouble in dealing with all he goes through. Most of the things he sees will send a regular man over to LoonyLand, and in my opinion what saves Jack is his age. His belifs, behaivor, dedication and way of thinking can only belong to a child. That makes us think about our life as adults. It is a beautiful story about a beautiful boy.
Rating: Summary: King's Finest, Stimulates the Imagination Like No Other Review: The Talisman is a great fantasy/adventure novel. It is well written and the vivid imagery is wonderfully engaging. A MUST for all King fans.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant-The best book I have ever read Review: I was sick in bed when a friend of me brought me this book. As I wasn't feeling very well I didn't feel like reading; until I started. Never a book kept my attention like this one; I could hardly sleep until the book was over. I am a great fan of fantasy books but this is my favorite one(with a big difference). FANTASTIC! A Spanish Student in Dublin
Rating: Summary: Conceptually interesting, not original, lonnnnnnng book... Review: I've read a good number of Stephen King books and I liked the sound of this one so I picked it up. One of King's tendancies is to take a good idea and overdetail it to death. This books is a good example. Over 600 pages, I'd say it could have been comfortably done in under 400 and been readable. I forced myself to finish it, in spite of the obvious ending because I hate to put down a book unread. Read the first three books in the Apprentice Adept series by Piers Anthony for a similar theme and much better execution.
