Summary: Simply Amazing...
Review: Rarely do I ever read a book more then once, even when it's phenomeonaly great. I have just finished reading The Talisman, and have decided that I must buy my own copy and read it many more times, and then share it with my own kids... when I eventually get kids. It is more then just a great adventure story about a 12-year-old boy on a journey through this world and its mystical counterpart, it is a wonderfully touching, emotional story about the innocence of youth and the difficulty in coming-of-age, and more then anything else, what it means to be a true hero and friend. I was depressed when I finished the book because I had to leave Jack Sawyer's world. I had to say good-bye. He was one character who, in a rare fictional event, I cared for as much as I cared for real people that were close to me. He became as real as they were. I truely miss Jack, and will have to read his story again and get others to share in his friendship. This story really is about friendships, and a love that is usually not expressed in the truely great ones. It makes you thank God for the good friends we have, and then find them and give them a big hug. And thanks is deserved by King and Straub for giving me a great friend in Jack Sawyer.

Summary: I love this book!!!!
Review: The Talisman is nothing more than the classic good vs. evil fairy tale, yet the way it's told, the characters and everything else about this novel makes it an excellent read. I loved the journey Jack has to take, not only from point a to point b, but from a boy to a man (or at least the heart of a man!!!!). I loved Wolf and Speedy Parker, and wish there was a sequel that dealt with more adventures in the Territories!!

Summary: Terrific fantasy adventure
Review: I'm a fan of King's horror books, and I found this fantasy to be a nice break. He's proven he can write about things other than the boogeyman. I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't do anything else but read!

Summary: Delivers the best parts of King and Straub
Review: I thought that "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub was one of the best books I have ever read. Stephen King is the Master.

When these two great minds worked together, I was naturally in heaven. As with all of my many King and Straub books, I have read this about ten times.

Jack Sawyer is so lovable and real. I always fight tears when I read of Jack and Wolf's last stand at that horrible prison. This whole book is beautiful bringing the imagery and symbolism that Straud is famous for, and King's sharp insight into his characters - his wonderful way of breathing life into them.

I love all King's young characters. To all King's critics who always say "kids aren't like this", I ask, you don't know any childen who are imaginative, brave, caring, creative, intelligent and full of determination when it comes to something that they want?

This book is a great read, a great adventure. I hope that the miniseries that Mr. Spielberg plans to create keeps the spirit of the book.

Summary: REFLECTIONS IN THE WAVES OF A MESMERIZING MIND;
Review: King yet agains shows how thin the line is between what is reality and what is myth,,and how easily those worlds can meld in and out of each other...And how easily it is for us to confuse the 2 and forget which is wich...King himself, is majical and somewhat of a myth..If you can't appreciate him then you're brain-dead..And a good subject for a novel..

Summary: "Writing is nothing more than a guided dream"
Review: "Writing is nothing more than a guided dream." I forget the author of this quote, but I will never forget the fantastic journey upon which these two authors bring the reader. The Talisman is a book orchestrated in layers of brilliance and imagination, and of all the varous genres I have read, it remains one of my favorites. The characters are so richly detailed that every time I read it, it is like going back to meet old friends and enemies. There is purity, virtue, grace and sacrifice. Moreover, the authors give a stark portrayal of the hypocracy in modern America, in addition to reminding us of the frightening potential for mankind's destruction and cruelty. I highly reccomend it for all those who truly love literature for its capacity to teach us something beyond self.

Summary: My Favorite Book
Review: I love this book. Stephen King is my favorite author, and I have read all of his books, not to mention quite a few of Peter Straub's, and this is the best of them all. It contains my favorite fictional character of all time, Jack Sawyer: the twelve year old lead who must journey across the country in an attempt to save his mother's life, and much more. He can travel in our world, and an alternate universe. In both worlds there are many dangers for a boy traveling alone, including his uncle, Morgan Sloat, who has more than a little vested in Jack's failure. He is also helped along the way by some friends, Richard and Wolf. I have always loved KING's kids, you know: strong, brave intelligent, SPECIAL, but still just kids under it all, still scared and lonely, and you can't help but be touched by them. If you feel the same, or if you like a good fantasy/adventure story, read this book. I've read it four times and it still makes me cry each time.

Summary: really good book
Review: I quit reading King after "IT" which I thought was horrible. The Stand is still my all time favorite, but The Talisman is a very close 2nd. I thought the story was interesting, and have read it numerous times. I could tell when King was writing, because the descriptions were too long. Great concept, good read.

Summary: An average read
Review: A friend recommended The Talisman to me, claiming it to be a good book to read. It was well received by it's amazon customers and the book had an interesting summary; so I bought it. My opinion? Nothing more than an average read.

The book stimulates the reader's imagination by relating the store of a 12 year old boy embarking on a treacherous journey through a fantasy world filled with danger. I must point out however that the book was not realistic in terms of the numerous, insurmountable circumstances that this little 12 year old boy was albe to overcome at various times on his journey. The story is gripping and suspenseful at times, but other readers may confirm (as well as myself), that the suspense was over played due to the book's extensive depictions. I often found myself wanting to skip the excessive descriptions and simply get to the consequences. Overall, I give this book a B- and I recommend it to individuals with strong imaginations and those who enjoy make believes and what ifs?
