Summary: Why does everyone dislike "Secret Window, Secret Garden?"
Review: Another first-rate collection from the King. "The Langoliers" is the best of the four; I'd say the weakest of them is "The Sun Dog," mainly because it's a bit long (this is the only one in the collection that drags a bit). But WHY does EVERYBODY seem to HATE "Secret Window, Secret Garden! " While not as exciting and action-oriented as "The Langoliers," this story rates high on my list because the horror is internal; the emphasis here is on relationships (read DOLORES CLAIBORNE). I thoroughly enjoyed this one. "The Library Policeman" is wonderfully creepy. And even "The Sun Dog" is a good story. There really isn't a loser in the bunch.

Vintage King!

Summary: "The Langoliers" Was Brilliant!
Review: The first story in "Four Past Midnight" was without a shadow of a doubt the best story in the book. The Langoliers in a way reminded me of a twilight zone episode I once saw. Anyway, the story was creative, and extremely imaginative. I'm personally glad to read a Stepghen King story that doesn't include gore and brutal violence that is usually accostomed with his books. As for the other three stories......well, they werent that scary and dragged in parts. Buy the book anyway, just for the Langoliers, its worth it.

P.S.: The movies not that bad either, its just very long and kinda cheesy.

Summary: The Langoliers was the BEST!
Review: This book was very good. Every time I read it there was action. He puts a lot of suspense through out the story. I wanted to keep on reading on to the next chapter. This story was about a plane that loses control and needs to make an emergency landing. If you like a lot of action then this book would be good for you.

Summary: The Langoliers is an excellent story by Stephen King
Review: Stephen King's Four Past Midnight is a wonderful book. If you like horror the Stephen King way you will love this book. In this book King wrote four stories. The first story is one past midnight The Langoliers. The second story is two past midnight the Secret Window, Secret Garden. The third story is three past midnight The Library Policeman. The fourth story is four past midnight the Sun Dog. I have had the chance to read The Langoliers and I thought that it was an excellent story. The Langoliers is one of Kings stories that you can't put down until you finish that last word. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: I have only read one but.....
Review: I have only read one of the stories in this book, and that was the Langoliers. It was one of the best stories I have ever read (right up there with Jurassic Park) I have never been a fan of King, but I think I will keep reading this wonderful book. Oh, and from what I've read, don't read Secret Window-Secret Garden. ~Katie

Summary: Two good, One bad, One okay
Review: I thought that the Langoliers was the best Stephen King book I have read so far. It was action packed and compelling. On the other hand, Secret Window, Secret Garden was terrible. No action, no plot, no fun to read. The Library Policeman wasn't as exciting as The Langoliers, it was still better than SW,SG. Action, but not much plot. The Sun Dog was mediocre. It had little action, yet intruiging. In all a fair collection of novellas.

Summary: Langoliers was the BEST!
Review: Even though I am a hugh fan of Stephen King's bigger novels (It, The Stand) I found 4 Past Midnight very interesting. The best story in the book was the Langoliers, and I think that King could have expanded on that story and created a novel out of it. The Library Policeman and the Sun Dog were both very good, even though The Sun Dog was very predictable. My least fav. was Secret Window, Secret Garden, I felt it was dull.

Summary: The Langoliers 5 Stars-Everything Else-1
Review: King is one of the greatest writers of our day, and the Langoliers proves that. Without having to read one of his huge books, you can pick up the 4 Past Midnight and read the Langoliers in a day or so and not be disappointed. The rest of the short stories sort of dragged for me, but it is definitely worth it, if just for the Langoliers

Summary: Mature, moving stories
Review: Stephen King once wrote that he's still interested in things that go bump in the night, but that his more recent books tend to focus more on the people who may...or may not...be listening. These short stories fit that category, from the weary airline pilot-divorcee Captain Engle and then hardened Nick Hopewell who experiences a foxhole change of heart, to the small-town average Sam Peebles who hides a lifetime secret, King introduces us to characters we can care about. The character development makes the surreal storylines of the book all the more fascinating and poignant. "Langoliers" was fun to try to figure out as you go along; "Library Policeman" yields impressive psychological maturity; "The Sun Dog" is engrossing. Only "Secret Window, Secret Garden" left me cold. I wish I could read them again for the first time.
