Summary: One of my all time favorite books
Review: I read this novel back when it first came out, and handed it off to somebody with high praise. The book was never returned and I only today re-discovered "Swan Song" via a WWW search on the title. I am so glad to finally have the author's name and will be looking for more of his work. The image of the man laughing at the real-life horrors on the screen in the movie theatre has stayed with me over all these years. Each time I see one of those "real life rescue" shows on the tube I am reminded of the glee he displayed at the severed head. At the time I read the book, I was horrified and I wondered "who on earth would ever film that stuff, then put it out for people to see?" "Impossible", I thought. How wrong. We see these things every day now. I endeavor to remain shocked, and I strive to focus on the good and the beauty in this world. I attribute a lot of my perspective to reading "Swan Song" so long ago. Yvonne Dionne

Summary: Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon
Review: THE absolutely BEST book I have ever read! I have read Swan Song four times now, and I know I will read it again. I think it is BETTER than Stephen King's The Stand. It is a fantastic book about love, honour, magic, and the darker side of human nature. Robert R. McCammon incorporates fiction, fantasy, horror, and the all too possible third world war in one fantastic book. I have recommended this book to every friend I have and they all loved it! It has more than nine hundred pages of pure enjoyment and I know you will love it.

Summary: Great Great Great Morbid Exciting What a book
Review: In a time where we are worried about nuclear elimation, this book comes out and shows that we should be worried! Chilling development of the character takes you into thier world, causing you to cheer on the heros and boo the villains. With only a little under a 1000 pages it leaves you longing for another 1000 pages. This book defines what a post nuclear book should be! If I only had 2 more thumbs I would give this book 4 FOUR thumbs UP!!

Summary: I hope Doomsday is this interesting!
Review: This book was highly recommended by my Dad, who has questionable taste, anyway. I read a lot, but read slowly, and this is a big book. I started reading, anyway. I couldn't stop! Of all the books I've read (college, employment, high school, enjoyment, etc.) this is one that CONSTANTLY comes to the forefront as one of the best books I've read. To compare (for illustration only) I'd say it's similar to Stephen Kings' "The Stand." I'm a big Stephen King fan, and I LOVED The Stand, but I honestly liked Swan Song better. It's made it's way through my family, and now I have to get a new, un-beat-to-death copy!

Summary: This stunning saga will keep you enthralled all night long.
Review: McCammon's unearthly and frighteningly plausible "Swan Song" combines believable characters with excrutiating attention to detail to produce a book that had me smiling one chapter and crying the next. McCammon has delved into the soul of men and laid them bare for us to be appalled by, renewed by and most importantly, reminded of the evil and goodness within us all. A Must Read

Summary: A page turner
Review: This book starts out great and ends great and leaves you with a feeling of wanting to remain with the characters despite the life that they face. McCammon masterfully creates characters that you feel for, both good and evil alike. What makes you feel for them is that despite their innate predisposition towards either the light or dark side of humanity you still catch glimpses of who the character could have become if things in their lives had went differently, shown especially through the salvation of Sheila. I would recommend this book highly to anyone who liked the stand, despite other people saying it's a ripoff. The Stand was a disease these are nukes. Also it's hard to right a doomsday horror novel and not compare it to the stand.

Summary: Riveting read about a depressing wasteland
Review: This was the first book that I read by McCammon, and I wasn't dissapointed. It has over 900 pages but believe it or not the book never gets boring and it is an absolute page-turner all the way through. Thats a rarity in books nowadays especially for such a lengthy novel. The story is amazing once the reader gets halfway through. McCammon has to be one of the best authors in terms of character development. He makes you visualize and care about most of the characters. There seemed to be a few questions remaining at the end of the book. Like the card of the Empress being mentioned throughout the book as an important thing. Then when Swan becomes the Empress with the crown she gets scared and never goes back to it. She seemed to be invincible with the crown, but it doesn't go into detail about it and I thought that was a critical aspect to the book. McCammon describes the scenery very well and sets up the depressing landscape throughout the book. He never explains who the villain really is. After reading the Stand I thought Swan Song was better because its such a riveting read. King's book has lapses in it and that never happens in this story. The villain in the Stand was far better. As good as McCammon is you still feel that he lacks the flair of other authors like Koontz and other popular ones. This book is character driven mostly and if you like that then read this one.
