Summary: A Book to Buy, to Keep, and Read Again and Again
Review: Many years ago I picked up "Swan Song" in a public library simply because it was a large book in the horror section and the cover art was interesting. I didn't know what I was getting into... a well-paced, well-written story that grabbed my imagination and kept me riveted. I hated to return it! McCammon takes a very real scenario of how global nuclear war could develop and then uses that war to set a stage for the apocalytic confrontation between Good and Evil... using people with whom you can identify, in locations that you can visualize, and situations that you can relate to. Just a few months ago, a friend and I were discussing "The Stand" and I told her that she needed to read this book... and got to thinking that it was high time that I read it again, too. Thanks to Amazon, I had a new copy within days, and while I told myself that it probably wouldn't be as good as I remembered, I was wrong: it was better. Now that I'm older, I found aspects of McCammon's story moving me that escaped me as a teenager. To put this story into any one genre is an injustice, because it has an appeal that crosses into many genres. I've read very few books that rival it.

Summary: This is by far the best book of all his works.
Review: I read this book back in the summer of 1992. I had recently moved to NC with my husband and kids. It was my first flight from home, and just decided to pick up the book out of boredom. By the fourth chapter, I couldn't put the book down. I found myself not stopping to eat. For a whole week, I did nothing but read. It was intruiging and a little scary to think of the after affects of a nuclear bomb. How real he made all the character's seem, and to have the faite of the world lie in one little girl's hand was pure genious. I loved this book, and since then I have tried to find all of his books to read, but can only find ones that I have already read. Kudos to RM....We need more.

Summary: Swan Song is an unforgettable tale of struggle and survival
Review: For those horror fans who haven't discovered the treasure that is Robert McCammon's body of work, "Swan Song" is the perfect place to start. Like Stephen King's "The Stand," the novel tells a sweeping, episodic tale of a group of post-apocalyptic survivors struggling after the seeming end of the world. Also like that King masterpiece, "Swan Song" features real situations (fighting predators and constantly seeking food and comfort) with the same spark of the supernatural. McCammon's villians are human, but their motivations are something different. But most of all, you'll remember the vivid characters, especially the hideously deformed title character and Sister, a once-insane New York City bag lady who becomes one of humanity's new heroes. In this case, the cliches are true: It is a gripping read, you won't be able to put it down, and there are parts of it you'll never forget.

Summary: one of the best ever written
Review: This book is often compared to The Stand. Don't believe it. The Stand is an excellent work. But Swan Song tops it at every level. The characters are like friends, and fiends, we know or would wan t to know. The premise is very real. This book reaches in and touches your heart and won't let go. The very best of mankind and the very worst on the same stage. Outstanding and a must read for everyone.

Summary: Excellent read! A page turner to the very end!
Review: I found this book over 10 years ago and could not put it down. My friends and I, also Stephen King fans, were certain it was another of his under a new pen name. I accused him of it at a book signing in Houston and he laughed, said he didn't write it and asked why I thought he did. "For obvious reasons" was my reply as I gently accused him of lying!! We discussed the book and I immediately began searching for others by McCammon. I now have all he has published, although most are tattered paperbacks. If you can find them, read them. Each story is well-told, even the early efforts. McCammon just gets better and better.

Summary: Story of hope in humanity's darkest hour
Review: From a surprisingly believeable description of what could touch off World War III, to Swan's ultimate rebirth and defeat of evil, this book had me right where it wanted me from the first page. McCammon weaves a wonderfully satisfying tale of horror and suspense, good vs. evil, darkness vs the light at the end of the tunnel. After the nuclear exchange of WWIII, three bands of survivors emerge to claim what is left of Earth. One is bent on destruction, another to protect the future and the third to find the answers to her many questions. Their story spans seven years. Years of cold, hunger, death and man's inhumanity to man. McCammon's ending to the story will bring a lump to your throat. I highly recommend Swan Song.

Summary: The Most Frightening Novel Ever Written!!!
Review: "Swan Song" is the only book that I have ever read that literally gave me nightmares!!! This very long novel (almost one thousand pages) is a masterpiece of apocalyptic horror, and infinitely better than Stephen King's "The Stand". But, be warned, do not read it at night or when you are in the house alone... every little noise will send you into cardiac arrest. Not for the faint of heart. Buy this book, today!!!

Summary: Best Book Ever !!!
Review: I've read this book three times in the last 10 years. It just grabs you and won't let you go until it's over.. I think it's better than The Stand... and I'm a die hard King fan.

Summary: Story is as good as The Stand, with a far better ending.
Review: I had a lot of expectations when I first picked up this book, and I wasn't disappointed. When I first read The Stand, I thought no other book could come close. Swan Song is just as good, if not better, especially the ending. If you haven't read either, I suggest reading The Stand first, read a book or two in between, and then Swan Song. It's a great read.
