Rating: Summary: Makes "The Stand" Look Like Bambi Review: I read this book many many years ago and it has never left my thoughts. Probably the best book I have ever read and folks, I read A LOT! I can't praise it enough or recommend it too highly. Just quit reading these reviews and BUY IT ALREADY!! :-)
Rating: Summary: This book make me tremble like a little girl.... Review: Scared and moved me more than any movie/book/nightmare ever has. McCammon was truly inspired when he wrote this book. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to top himself yet. Stinger and the Wolf's Hour are excellent too, but still can't touch Swan Song.
Rating: Summary: one of the best Review: I`ve read this book three times. It`s a classic. I wish he could write a sequel to it,but he was inspired with this one and while his other books have been good, they don`t come close to Swan Song.
Rating: Summary: One of the best book i have ever read! Review: Truly deserves the tie as best novel for the Bram Stoker awards (tied with Stephen King). I read this book every two years and I never get tired of it. Very discriptive, can picture the characters and scenes in my mind. Mr. McCammon please won't you write some more?
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding; unforgettable Review: I first read this book when I was 13 years old and borrowed it form the Book mobile. Thus began my love affair with novels! AN EXCELLENT READ! If you like Stephen King, give ole Bob a try!
Rating: Summary: A vile, macabre, and human tale of who we really are. Review: I began reading this novel on the butt-end of a seventeen hour bus trip, and was finished four days later. I fought the side effects of my motion sickness pill, and had to literally pull my eyelids open to be able to keep on reading. McCammon's ability to keep a plot smoothly flowing among characters is like none that I've ever seen, and have yet to see it even matched. His process of character development demands that a reader keeps the pages open--as he reveals only a little information at a time--until the last line of the book. He describes the horrors and sexuall occurences with such detail, that little is left to the imagination, but never strays too far from what he is trying to say. The setting of the book provides a template for the characters to find out who they really are inside, and for others to be able to see that inner self on their faces. This is truly one of the great horror-fiction novels of all time.
Rating: Summary: The end of civilization and the birth of mankind Review: Swan Song illustrates humanity at its best, and its worst. World War III begins and ends with the gentle push of a button, and a nuclear inferno. Human civilization is brought to its knees as cities, countries, and even continents are decimated, virtually destroying the human race. Swan Song takes the reader into a world in the near future, as the last survivors of the human race become the first. A child named Swan holds within her heart the power and the love to ressurect a dying planet, but the man with the scarlet eye hunts her in an effort to control his new domain. Ravaged cities fall before marauding armies, each intent on rebuilding the world based on tyranny, destruction and fear. This novel draws a picture much larger then any individual soul, looking through the eyes of the suffering to bring into light the end of civilization, and the birth of mankind. The evil within battles the good of the heart, marching ever closer to the end, and the beginning.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER! Review: The best book ever, a solid scary read. I couldn't put it down. Wonderfull plot and charictures, a truly macabe tale, marvalously violent and horrifying. A must read for all horror fans.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC a must read for everyone, couldn't put it down. Review: This book has a great storyline,it keeps you turning page after page well into the wee hours of the morning. But the thing I liked most about this book is McCammon's characters, they are so real. It is like comming home to old friends each time you pick up the book. You can't wait to see what happens to Sister Creep and Swan next. You are rooting for them and praying for them. You can feel for them, because you feel like you are there with them. I was lost in McCammon's very real nuclear winter with every one else, not many writers can take you there. McCammon's a very tallented writer,I will be a faithful follower indefinatly. I have made a point to read Swan Song once a year for the last 11 years it is that good. I am hooked...
Rating: Summary: A true page turner, a must read for all who enjoy epic tales Review: A truly astounding book by one of my favorite authors. The characters are vivid, whether they're despicable or lovable. The story is well put together, so that there are very few, if any, slow or boring points. In contrast to the much publicized "The Stand", this end of the world saga is much darker and harsher, but no less entertaining. The descriptive nature of the Nuclear Winter slams you in the chest over and over again and will have you asking yourself if you would have the strength to survive it. Bottom line is: You'll laugh, you'll cuss, and you may even shed a tear or two along the way, but you will sincerely love this book.
