Summary: This book is the mother of all apocalyptic books.
Review: This book is similiar in concept to the Stand by Stephen King but much more descriptive and realistic if the end of the world were to come. I particulary enjoyed the ongoing battle between good and evil along with the massive character descriptions. I felt that when I finished the book I missed the characters. I had originally read this book when it first came out in 1987. I recenlty saw this book for sale and decided I wanted to re-read it which is very unusual for me.

Summary: Don't Let the Cover Scare You Away
Review: I was travel cross country driving truck and I kept seeing this book on the stands everywhere. I'm not at all a reader and I don't like sadistic books so I kept ignore my urge to buy this book. It was so huge and that cover it couldn't be a good book. I finally gave in from bordem and bought it. I couldn't put it down once I started to read it. I couldn't wait to get back to it when I did have to put it down to sleep, eat, or unload the truck. That's about the only time I did put it down. I felt like I was part of the world in the book. It is about the conflicts of people, Satin, and God at the end of our world as we know it. It is almost Biblical like. I love this book so much I am buying another one because I want to be able to reread it when ever I want and each time I reluctantly loan it out I'm affraid I may not get it back. So I am buying a spare, which is how I got involved with wanting to write this reveue. So if your not taking a second look at this book because it looks like another Exorsist trip. Don't let the cover fool you. It doesn't even go there. A MUST MUST READ.

Summary: Magnificient story line.
Review: Want to read a book that will keep you spellbound from beginning to end? This is it. I didn't read it in one setting like so many reviewers state about books they read but I enjoyed every page. A gripping story about the end of the world as we know it. A book everyone should read because it seems so real. All the characters are great. So believable for a work of fiction. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Summary: Good God Almighty This Was An Awesome Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I finished this book in 3 sittings, and it is very, very long. Strangely enough I didn't notice the length as I was reading, a sure sign of something well written. I do admit that I noticed some similarities to Stephen King's "The Stand", the small band of people on both sides good and evil searching for each other in the hopes of self preservation, the singular evil entity, etc., etc., etc. But where as Stephen King's tale had more spiritual overtones Mr. McGammon's tale draws more on the human belief in good triumphing over evil without any true dedication to religion. Which should help it appeal to a broader audience. My only complaint is that the evil guy, the "man with the scarlet eye" was just not that scary. Disturbing yes, but he didn't hold a candle to the possible evils I felt Stephen King's "Randall Flagg" capable of. He seemed weak, and I just thought that evil would probably be represented in a much more powerful, encompassing figure. But hey, I didn't write the book now did I? This is a good way to pass the time if you are bored and decide that you want to stimulate the "ole imagination". Pick this one up if you can handle it. Oh yeh, if you haven't read Mr. McGammon's book Boy's Life I suggest you check that one out as well.

Summary: Swan Song is the Best Fiction I have ever read in my life.
Review: I began reading novels when I was a young girl... Mature-themed books, my reading level and comprehension was way beyond my years, and reading was my favorite pasttime for decades. Of the thousands of books read in all those years, the best of the lot, by far, is "Swan Song." For others like myself who have devoured story after story over the years, this is a must-read before you die. You GOTTA GET THIS ONE.

Summary: WHAT A WONDERFUL, FRIGHTENING TALE!!!!!
Review: This is one of the best, if not the best, book I have ever read. If there were a 10-star rating, I would choose that. If you have read The Stand, READ SWAN SONG!!! I hope that one day some film company will do this book justice and make a wonderful movie out of this. The story is so descriptive, and the character studies are so deep, you feel like you are there. If you like apocalyptic plot lines, and great character studies, Swan Song is for you!

Summary: TOUCHES YOUR SOUL
Review: As I skim down through the reviews time and time again I see "can't stop thinking about it" and " best book of all time". Well it's true. I read this book the first time about many years ago. I never forgot it. I have reread it twice since then and it is part of me. When my son was old enough to understand it, I gave it to him...I didn't hardly see him for days until he was finished. It made a profound impact on him. He is an avid reader and his favorite book to date. There are some books that come close...but none that goes beyond Swan Song.

Summary: Swan Song is OUT"stand"ING!!!
Review: I have long been a McCammon fan and have read all but two of his books. Swan Song is by far the best of his works. So good I have read it atleast 3 times. If you enjoy "end of the world" stories this is one of the "TOP GUNS".
