Rating: Summary: abosolutely compelling Review: I loved this book. I have read it twice and the first time I could not put it down. McCammon draws you in from the beginning and doesn't let go.
Rating: Summary: BETTER THAN MEETING GOD! Review: MCcammon pulls out all your emotions with Swan Song.I have never read a book with so much thought put in it as MCcammon does here.I had some of the best days of my life reading this. Nothing I have read could compare to this.By the time Stephen Kings' Dark Tower series is over in maybe 10 years,it may surpass Swan Song but for now until that time comes,Swan Song is the greatest book ever created. MCcammon creates a world you would not believe unless you read this book for yourself. I would love to see a movie, but it should be a late night HBO/Showtime mini series, maybe 12 2 hour episodes. I can't say enough about this book, but Buffy's on so I gotta go. I expect to see your 5 star review shortly. Look out world, here comes Spike.
Rating: Summary: must read! Review: I have gone through 2 copies of this book from reading it so many times! I've made most of my friends read it and not one person was able to put it down! Mr McCammon's writing enables you to visualize the characters in your mind as if in a movie. Absoulutely fabulous!
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: This book is one of my all-time favorites. I bought it for my 14 yr. old daughter for Christmas this year. I only wish he'd write some more (or at least read all of these fantastic reviews here online - and see how much he will be missed!)...
Rating: Summary: Riveting! Review: I loved it! The characters were fascinating and I couldn't wait to read what was going to happen next. It was recommened to me by a friend, and she had read it twice. Makes you want to think about the future and how we can change it.
Rating: Summary: A masterpice Review: This was an incredibial book. I read it after hearing it was alote like the stand by stephen king. I'll admit they had alote in commen, but had completely different messages. The evil was much more human in this book, yet at the same time much more evil and strange. His reaching out for the apple near the end showed his human flaw. It's good he showed him the way he did. It shows how week the dark is under the light. Theirs no such thing as dark, theirs just without light.
Rating: Summary: well, i'll be damned . . . Review: As most people who know me would tell ya, I'm one of the biggest Stephen King fans out there, and lately, McCammon has caught my attention after i read other works like "Mystery Walk" and "Boy's Life." His style and characterizations are (and i'm sure he'd smack me for saying this) very King-esque, and the books as a whole are thoroughly enjoyable and easy to read. When it came to "Swan Song," though, i was a little hesitant--it seemed a bit too much like "The Stand," one of King's undeniable masterpieces. I'd been reccommended "Swan Song" since it came out, but i was actually a little worried I might like it more . . . and, to tell you the truth, it's right on par. There are some similarities between the two books (the Lincoln/Holland tunnel scenes were definate parallels), but "Swan Song" does have enough going for it to stand on its own. It almost seems scarier than "the Stand," if not for the suffering and atrocities that come with nuclear war. As the amazon review points out, too, the good is sweeter and the evil darker, which makes for a nicer conflict. "The Stand," however, was much more pregnant with subtext and heartfelt emotion. Which is not to say "Swan Song" doesn't have its fill as well. Both are very relevant and deserving of study and accolade, and both are highly reccommended. And, if you've read to this point, you deserve some sort of award . . . i'll be over in fifteen miuntes . . .
Rating: Summary: Slightly flawed, but it was excellent. Review: I found the book to be very entertaining, but not without it's problems. Near the end of the book, it becomes ridiculous how stopping the the Doomsday device suddenly means that the sun can come out and water tastes clean. Also, the Shadow Soldier concept was at first a gimmick IMO, then it became non-relevant near the end. The demon character and the "wise old sage" (both are elderly African American women! were ripoffs of "The Stand", but the characters are fleshed out better in this book. Actually, all the protagonists were given deep character development time, but the antagonists weren't (other than Roland IMO).The main problem of this book was that it ended. With the characters given so much "life", these people become like living, breathing people and ending the story means almost like leaving them. I was very satisfied with the ending, especially since I am a huge fan of epilogues when reading stories this long. I would give this book 4.5 stars, but since I can't, it gets 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Swan Song Review: Swan song by far has to be the best well written book I have ever read. With so many different characters and things going on the story just continued to flow. I have bought this book twice and read it three times. As thick as this book is I read it so fast and wished it could have been double the size for more reading. Two thumbs up to Robert R. McCammon as he surely is the best writer i have ever read....
