Rating: Summary: ....She did it again.... Review: I've read a lot of books by Anne Rice, even her erotica, but, I think that this book, The Vampire Armand is by far the best book i've read by her. Possibly because Armand is my favorite character of all of her vampires. I absoutlly LOVED this book!If you haven't read it, you should!Yes, I too was glad to hear that our dear Armand didn't die when he went up to the sun in the other book and returned in this one.
Rating: Summary: Another Rice Classic Review: To understand a character, you must know his/her history. The Vampire Armand is a wonderful biography of one of Anne Rice's most known and loved characters. I am going to read the Vampire Chronicles again now that I have better insight into Armand.
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: Not my favorite of the Vampire Chronicles, but a good read nonetheless. Certainly a million times better than Memnoch. Rice explains much of what is going on with Armand's life and gives his perspective of events. I love Lestat, but it's nice to get someone else's point of view. As for the homosexuality, it's no big deal. Don't listen to these unenlightened morons who also post their reviews. You need to understand that homosexuality was not a big deal in this world until the last 150-200 years. It's about time that a period author recognized this.
Rating: Summary: Slow at first, but worth reading Review: I struggled through the first part of this book, it was filled with a little more homoerotica and storyline tangents than really necessary. However, it became much more exciting once Armand became a vampire. Unfortunately, Rice does not expand too much further on what we already know of Armand's history. She fills in some gaps and gives us a little more of Armand's perspective on it, which was interesting to be sure, but that was it. Some expansion on his life as head of the Paris coven and later the Theatre of the Vampires would have been nice. A little more detail on his time spent with Louis and Daniel would have been appealing as well. It never came though. I got the feeling that that was not the reason Rice was motivated to write this book. The story she wanted to tell was the first half, the story of Armand's pre-vampire life with Marius and his ultimate origins in Russia. The rest was for the sake of continuity, with the possible exception of the chapters centered on Armand healing from his burns and the introduction of Sybelle and Benji. All in all, though, if you are a fan of The Vampire Chronicles this book is worth reading. Likely you will come away from the book thinking quite differently of Armand than you do now.
Rating: Summary: Gay Vampire Porno! Review: Geez! If a homosexual was in the closet, he'd be out after reading this book! I dont what it is with Rice's gay porno fetish but it really shows in her work! I wanted to yack through most of the book! Well, if your into that sorta thing you'll love this!
Rating: Summary: undead biography Review: I love Annes works but I found this story to be rather empty. She tries to fill Armand with life and innocence which he lost under the tutelage of Marius. I am not convinced. I found that the origans of this character did not match the Armand we read about now. I was dissapointed with the story, I hate to say it but true.
Rating: Summary: Armadeo Review: This is truly one of the most expressive books of the Vampire Chronicles. In this book, Rice expresses the thoughts and emotions of a vampire who is able to experience life. If you have read "Interview with the Vampire," then you might know how Louis was known for his ablity to express great sorrow. Well in "Vampire Armand," Armand will be know for his passion and sensuality. Armand is faced with lust for life, the child, and the company of his kind. I never knew a vampire could express so much. Rice also weaves a little history into this book and explains the context of the name Armand, which comes from the name Armadeo. If you are looking for a book to get you interested in reading though the whole chronicles, this book would surly get you started. Of course it is not the beginning, but after this one, you can go back with "Interview..."
Rating: Summary: Angel boy Review: I have just read this wonderfully book, "The Vampire Armand" by Anne Rice. I must say I'm only 16 years old and I understand most of what Armand is trying to say but when I'm older I'll understand. "The vampire Armand" is my second book I've read of Anne Rice and I have enjoyed it. I couldn't put the book down, trying to find out what happened to Amadeo the Angelic boy (Armand) and to find out who "THOSE WHO MUST BE KEPT" are. Lestat is in a deep sleep because of "Memnoch the Devil" who took him on a journey some where. I havn't read it but I understand that. I was in tears when Amadeo became ill, I thought Anne Rice describtion of being ill was good so realistic, you always wish some one that you love is there when your ill and when you think your going to die. In this he wished his Master, Marius was there to save him. Now I just want to read it again to see the information that I might have missed, when I first read it. The relationships just shows how much a vampire or human being can love another,it's not blind to see, the love Marius and Amadeo have for each other. You just have to think of the relationship of a father, son relationship but more of a man and women in love. Yes, it is sick but you can't stop love. "The Vampire Armand" is a good book very well writen and I hope you understand what I was trying to say because I can't explain it any further. All I say is read it for yourself. If I havn't helped you sorry but read it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written, beautifully involved narratives. Review: The first Anne Rice novel I read was Interview With the Vampire and it was one of the best books that I've ever read. Rice is a poet. Her highly involved and detailed narratives give the reader staggering visuals of the characters and their environments. Reading The Vampire Armand, one is transported back in time through many centuries. You experience the life, the culture and the loves that her characters experience. The emotions transmitted are beautifully powerful. You are there with Armand. There with him when he looses hope, with him when he falls in love. The lives of Rice's characters, from this book and from others in the Vampire Chronicles are masterfuly interwoven, you begin to doubt at times that you are reading fiction. I've read some of the reviews for this book and found that some people were turned off by the sensuality that Rice put into her books. I have to admit, you must be an open-minded person to enjoy her works(as well as any other type of art). If you like to be swept away into another world, another time, if you want to fall in love with a book and it characters, The Vampire Armand, as well as all the books in the Vampire Chronicles are some of the best books you'll ever read.
Rating: Summary: Oh God, Not Armand!!! Review: If I had to sum this book up in one word it would be...HORRIBLE (or any of it's synonyms!). After reading Queen of the Damned, which was Anne Rice's best book ever, then being majorly dissapointed by TOTBT & MTD, I thought she could redeem herself with Armand. He was such a great character in the other books...that devilish, detached boy who was the perfect balance for Lestat's constant whining. But she ruined him! She made him like Lestat, and worse, if possible. She also ruined Marius, and seems to just have cut Daniel out of the picture. This book seems just an excuse for Rice to write some more homoerotica (vampyrical homoerotica, nonetheless!), and pages and pages of pointless descriptions. Armand was such a great character...poor him. Poor anyone that reads this...stick with the ensemble thing you had going on in QOTD, Rice!
