Rating: Summary: hmm.... Review: This was a fairly good book if you are a fan of the Vampire Chronicles. I felt that Mrs. Rice missed some parts like his experience with Lestat, especially when he threw him off the tower. She also overdid it with the homosexuality. Not that I'm a homophobic though. Also, Armand dragged on and on sometimes. That made it hard to read at some parts. Otherwise, it was pretty good. After reading this, he's not such a mystery anymore. So all in all, it was good, but certainly not the best.
Rating: Summary: Too many words; not enough action. Review: I am a fan of Ms. Rice's earlier books, but lately it seems everything she writes is more like a textbook history lesson done with purple prose. I found Armand to be an interesting idea and a good set up for a good story, but it somehow failed. I don't want to read four pages of prose about what color a satin pillow is. Usually, I forgive the purple prose in her vampire books because I figure the vampire sees the world through different, more sensitive eyes and they are poetic, gothy, angst ridden creatures anyway, but her last few books have been almost unbearable. I barely got through Armand. His relationship with Marius seemed very contrived and didn't have much of a point to it other than to showcase the sensuality of the vampires. I am now solid on never buying an Anne Rice Book again, unless I hear that she has quit with the 4000 word descriptions of trivial things. It is too bad because I enjoy her earlier work greatly.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: The Vampire Armand is definitely one of the best books I've ever read. It is so beautifully written that I've wanted to cry on a number of occasions. My intrigue with Armand, (Louie is my favorite, however) began when I first read a review of this book. Now, that I'm half way through it, I can't put it down. Armand's life is way, way different than I had expected it to be when I first saw him in Interview with a Vampire (which I have yet to read). Anne Rice's way of manipulating words to tell his story, which at times are quite racy and gruesome, are marvelous. And as an aspiring writer myself, can only hope that I have half the talent. This is the first I've read in the Vampire Chronicles, but surely not my last.
Rating: Summary: Vamiper Armand Review Review: Book review Vampire Armand Ann Rice Have you ever heard of "Vampires", I don't mean the bats , I mean real living-dead Vampires. Well in this thrilling Ann Rice novel Vampires roam the streets/Allies of Spain by night and take refuge in satanic and desolate chapels, churches and mansions by day. When the book first begins it's rather slow because it's very depth in detail and the first four chapters is the main story, so there's a lot of explaining. The main character Armand has just awoke from his "death" and is experiencing some overwhelming new features. When he walks around the chapel he is aware he is not the only spawn there, he "meets"(he doesn't really meet him because he's unconscious) another vampire Marando who is in some sort of trance with the dream world. Armand later meets his master Lastad, who, it seems he is in love with some what. He meets others but that would be giving you to much. The book its self is mainly about Armand's birth as a vampire but during the time learns a lot of new things about being a vampire and what they need to do survive. The main conflict isn't really a conflict much at all. He is to learn how to control his new found abilities and how to survive on his own, but don't worry he finds trouble along the way. Other than the long explantions to everything the book it's self is great, I would give it a 8/10 because the twisted fictional reality is breath taking, compared to the usual inside the box fiction.
Rating: Summary: I am glad I checked it out of the library first Review: I just finished TVA. The beginning was very slow going, and it wasn't until a third of the way through that Amadeo became Armand, the Vampire. I wish that instead of writing a biography of each Vampire, she would write more books about our beloved coven as a whole. Pandora was a very good biography, but poor David's character...he is turning into such a boring character -and he has such promise as a vampire with real depth and intelligence. Armand just didn't do it for me, but I can't tell if it was Ms. Rice's overabundant prose, or if she just didn't write the story deeply enough.
Rating: Summary: It picks up half way through... Review: First, I would like to say that I love the Vampire Chronicles and I am big fan of Anne Rice... I was very excited when I picked up the book and was looking foward to reading about the life of Armand, which expands 500 years. He and Marius are two of my favorite creatures of the night. I was disapointed that the first several chapters were a bit slow, and I even contemplated putting it down; however, half way through the book it began to pick up. I loved Mrs. Rice's writing style and her devotion to detail. When I realized that I was a few chapters away from finishing the book, I had an overwhelming feeling of sadness. I had discovered that I had grown to love this book. If you love the vampire Chronicles, you'll love this one.
Rating: Summary: Amadeo will always be my vampire. Review: From an Armand lover, this book is the best in the series yet. It is more in the style of Interview With the Vampire than the others in the series. It brings to life Armands character and why he did the things he did in Memnoch the Devil...and it's so heartwrenching. For lovers of vampires. For lovers of Anne Rice. For lovers of European History. And for lovers of beautiful young Russian boys.
Rating: Summary: disappointment Review: This book is a waste of time. I think the first 5 were complete and interesting tales. Armand is not himself and the homosexuality is a little too much for me handle this time around. One of the most interesting characters Anne Rice created turns out to be a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Another in depth look at another Vampire Review: Ann Rice has done it again. This book covers the life of the Vampire Armand. Armands story touchs on all of the other books Vampires we have been introduced to in the previous 5 books. And intergrates them well. The book starts off strong and ends weak. You will not want to put this book down for the first two-thirds. I espically love the parts when we follows Armands life as a Vampire in Venice. And we follow him to Rome where we learn how he becomes the master of the Paris Coven. After this there is long jumps in history. Of course, it leaves us needing more books....for the story is obviously not over...
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Armand Review: This book is just as awesome as all the others in the chronicles. But what more could you expect from our dear Anne? Where we only get glimpses of our Armand from the others (which makes him all the more mysterious and loveable), this book covers his time before he met Marius, his mortal time with the elder vampire, his immortal years with Marius, and afterwards with the Vampire coven and in Paris and Rome. After reading this book, I have come to like Armand even more than I had before. He is a very complicated immortal, who simply needs a little direction and love. I recommend it to the faithful Anne Rice fan and the new comer as well. I certainly loved it.
