Rating: Summary: Wonderful macabre erotica! Review: For those who delight in the more sensuous, erotic novels that Rice has written, The Vampire Armand is welcome decadence. A mixture in part of her Anne Rampling erotica and her Vampire Chronicles macabre, this is one of her best books yet. It portrays it's Botticelli faced antihero as a young boy, abused and shut off, then opening and blossoming into an elegant graceful sensuous being, with the guidance of Marius. The familiar characters are exposed to the readers in a new light, one of haunting beauty and rich detail. The Vampire Armand is an escape from the cut and dry stucco outlined world of the late 20th century. It transports the reader into an era long since decayed and dead, bringing alive music, passion, art, love, and mystery. With the intricate web of storytelling so beautifully laid out in the earlier Chronicles, then the dissapointing denoument of Pandora, horribly out of place and forever aparthied, The Vampire Armand whisks the reader away into forbidden fantasy too long forsaken. I hail Rice's latest brainchild and hope her following books will continue in this stunning tradition.
Rating: Summary: Simply brilliant!!! Review: I'm an Anne Rice fan and from all her books, I love the vampire chronicles the most. This one was no exception, it's extremely sensual and intense and I didn't put it down until I finished the last page. I recommend it to all vampire and Anne Rice's fans. Simply brilliant!
Rating: Summary: Armand comes off like a boring fool in a boring book. Review: I felt no empathy towards Armand. Rather, he comes off as foolish, boring, and dumb. This was not, I think, Anne's intent. The story line lacks creativity, and the character development suffers for it. A classic example of writing for money rather than passion's sake, and the entire series pays the price.
Rating: Summary: I loved 'The Vampire Armand' Review: The Vampire Armand, a great book. I can't wait to hear it on tape. I really wish Anne Rice would make this book a Movie like 'Interview with the vampire'. thanx.
Rating: Summary: You'll either love it or you'll hate it Review: TVA is only for the most patient of readers. Everyone is familiar with her flowery, ornate, and often overwrought style, so if you like it, expect even more of it here. I didn't have a problem with the homoeroticism--it's not about being a gay vampire, it's about falling in love with someone who happens to be the same sex as you are. And the pedophilia issue isn't even an issue-it works. Besides, Marius is a vampire for Chrissakes. Any mortal he chose to be his lover would be a child in comparison to him, so it doesn't really matter. The plot? Sure there's a plot. Just not a typical, formulaic one. It's more of a study on the emotions, thoughts, and beliefs of one person out of billions of them. Some will agree or at least understand Armand's ideas and where he is coming from, and some simply will not. There are, as there is in every vampire chronicle Rice has produced to date, many linear inaccurices invovling the lives and looks of the vampires, and it is extremely annoying, especially when you think that a writer should care enough about her own stories to make them plausible, but you get over it. The best thing about TVA is that it doesn't try to cater to anyone elses ideas on where it should go-Anne does exactly what she wants with it, and no one can blame her for it. She is a woman whose opinions are so strong she feels she has to convince everyone of them by shoving them in their faces. Yeah, it's a triffle on the pushy side, but it seems to me to be just one of the many facets of all her books. In short, you will either love this book, or you will hate it. Only those with a liking for developmental eccentricities will be able to stomach her rambling diatribes and seemigly meaningless minor characters. It's just like everything else she's ever written. It's entertainment posing as philosophy. And somehow, some of us end up buying it.
Rating: Summary: BRING BACK LESTAT Review: Thats all i think that needs to be said. As I have read all of her books, except Violin, and Servant. SHe feels most alive writing about her beloved Lestat or the trials of the Mayfais witches. The vampire chronicles, definately some of my favorite works, but ever since Memnoch, the passion just doesnt seem there. Anne, I love you, but please bring back Lestat
Rating: Summary: Tapped Out! Review: Is it me or has Rice pretty much tapped out on this series? The character of Armand just didn't ring true as the book developed. From under the tutelage of Marius, to the man we first meet in "Interview", seems either Marius wasn't an adequate teacher at all, or Rice couldn't explain how the time Armand spents with Sorrino justifies his drastic character changes?! The thread of his actions at the end of 'Memnoch The Devil' is rather sorely lacking as well.
Rating: Summary: The BEST of the Vampire Chronicles! Review: I loved this book. It always seemed that Lestat was the focus of the Chronicles and now with this novel and "Pandora", we get to see perspective from the other vampires. Thank you Mrs. Rice for another great read.
Rating: Summary: This book is wounderfull Review: This book was terriffic I found myself getting so caught up in the life of Armand and all the people he meets in this book. I can't wait to get home everday to read this book. It deffinetly earns all five stars.
Rating: Summary: Blah Review: I see there is no option for 0 stars. I loved Pandora, it was hard to put down, but Armand is so hard to pick up! Enough sex already! That's all Armand did while he was alive! Pandora at least led an interesting life! Marius was a completely different person in Pandora. Who is this weirdo in Armand? Blah Blah Blah! Anne, I love you, but this sucked!
