Rating: Summary: Exotic Review: The Vampire Armand leads you to another world, full of love, power, and lust. I have read all her Vampire Chronicles and I loved everyone one of them. This novel is also very exotic, full of descriptive scenes. Truly a beautiful story, full of love and emotion. I couldn't put the book down.
Rating: Summary: Let yourself be taken captive Review: In This spellbinding book. Anne Rice takes you into the mind and heart of a man forever captive in a boy's body. Taking you back with him to his childhood and the triumphs and problems of his life. Living life in three diffrent societys, and the love he experences.
Rating: Summary: Highly detailed, nonstop drama... Review: After reading the book halfway through, I really appreciated Anne Rice's high regard for detail (eg. the tapestry on the carpet, the velvet cloth on the garments, etc.). But in real life, as time passes by, one could not remember or recall the actual details of a certain place or room. In the novel, Armand could still remember even the tiniest detail like what kind of food he ate on a certain day or the dream he had one time. These are not realistic recollections of one's past life. Rice made Armand into a genius who could recall even the smallest event in his past life. I don't know if this is an ability of a vampire. Maybe Anne helped Armand recollect the events in his life. Another thing I did not like in the novel was about the dreamy sequence when Armand died. The sequence took about 6 pages which really bored me. What I liked about the novel was Anne's vast knowledge of history from pre-Renaissance to modern times. She also gave the reader a pretty clear picture of Renaissance lavish lifestyle, how and what things looked like. So all in all, I really liked the novel, especially if you wanted to know the detail on such things. It seems like you've travelled back in time and had a lecture of world history. I strongly recommend this book to people who have an incling to Renaissance ways of life, arts, music and philosophies, for poets like myself who appreciate the beauty of nature even in the simplest way.
Rating: Summary: Very descripive and entrancing Review: If you liked the rest of the vampire chronicals then you willlove this book. And for those who haven't read anything by Anne Rice Isuggest to pick it up right away. It's descriptive and enthralling, once you have started you will feel bad for putting it down and not finishing it.
Rating: Summary: Absolutley Fantastic! Review: I tought this book was amazing.I loved how much detail Ann Rice used.I am a fan of her's.Along with THE VAMPIRE LESTAT, I think this book is one of her best books.Although, in some parts the chapters may seem too long ,and dragged out, but includes alot of detail, that makes the book totally hard to put down, and mesmerizing.I loved this book, and Ann Rice, keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: One of her best Review: I read this book quite a while ago so I cant remember all the wonderful little details but I do remember how much I enjoyed it. Being a young yet huge Rice fan I could not wait to get stuck into the book even though Armand was not a particular favourite then. But now I can safely say he is right up there with Lestat. It was a very touching and extremely beautiful book and I enjoyed reading it. I was not affended by the so-called "graphic" scenes in the novel because to me they really were not that graphic. Anne wrote them beautifully ,I saw nothing really sordid about them except for the fact that Marius was some what older(and in his case it is some 2000 years older.)People should be reminded that it is just fiction and should not be taken so seriously. Also of if you dont approve of what Anne writes then dont read it, its her sixth book about this sort of thing you should know her by now. To end I think I should say what I disliked. Firstly , too much detail.I think Im one of those odd people who prefers to know whats happening to the characters, not how tall and old the tree is that theyre standing next to.I dont know, call me crazy. Also there is a sick and totally unneeded scene involving Claudia. Anyone whose a fan will no doubt feel repulsed by this and dissappointed in Anne for even thinking it let alone putting in one of her books. One last thing if you found this book boring, I warn you about Memnoch and Vittorio, believe just dont put yourself through that kind of torture its not worth it believe me. I couldnt finish either of them.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICIENT!!!! Review: This book has made me an Anne Rice fan.Once I started reading I just couldn`t stop!!!It had been quite some time that I had read something this great(AND I REALLY READ A LOT!!!!!!!!!)-it absolutely stunned me.I read it again and again, and I guess I`ll just go down in my room and read it once more. TO ALL ANNE RICE FANS AND TO THOSE WHO WILL CERTAINLY BECOME FANS AFTER READING THIS WONDERFUL BOOK: READ IT!!!!!!!!!!! If you don`t,you REALLY miss something.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Very evocative!! Review: The unabridged "audio" version of this book conjured up MORE then this mature heterosexual female could handle at times! I didn't know if I should be ashamed of myself, embarrassed or insulted!! However it did endear me to the beautiful Armand, and keep me rivited to the character, mainly because during the entire book I was invisioning what I consider to be the "perfect" actor to bring Armond to life on screen. His name is Tyler Christopher and before you cast a big name "glam" star to the role, you would be wise to check out this young "beautiful", soulful actor. I don't know if it was the way the narrator portrayed Marius, but he was Shawn Connery in my mind and both he and the young Tyler made the most dramatic "motion picture" in my head. WOW!! As usual I feel that Anne is a little to "wordy" at times with too much religious implications in her stories, and I dare say if I had read this book, my puritanical instincts would have "glossed" over the very erotic portions of the young "mortal" Armands sexual education as well as the religious overtones and it wouldn't have had such an impact on me. I read the Vampire Chronicles many years ago and I may just have to revisit them via "audio" books to get the full impact. In closing, I'm caught up the Annes trap of making me "love" her Vampires, rather then recoil from them!
Rating: Summary: On par with the originals Review: A- On par with the originals. Sometimes slow, always entrancing. Bon Apetit, Rice fans.
Rating: Summary: This one was the most boring book I have read in a long time Review: I always try to get a least 50 pages into a book before I judge it. I read up to page 185 and could no longer go on. I had high hopes for this one. Her other books were excellent. I wished the Mayfair Witches could have gone on forever. Where those books were entrancing, held the readers interest, couldn't put the books down type, this one went on and on. Blah, blah, blah! Too much description and narrators thoughts and not enough actual conversation. I would not recommend this book for someone who wants to dive into a book and feel as though they are there cuz you just get lost in all the uninteresting mumbo jumbo!
