The Vampire Armand (The Vampire Chronicles, Book 6)

Summary: I want to like this, I really do, but ..........
Review: I LOVE Anne Rice. I have read about Vampires and Witches virtually from cover to cover in one sitting. I can not get enough, but Armand ... weeeelll that is turning out to be another story. I am finding it heavy going, a little bit too descriptive and not enough real meat. I have read other reviews which are concerned with child-related material, but that was not my biggest problem which was keeping the book in my hands long enough to read it all. I am 2/3rds through now, come hell or high water I will finish. Who knows, I may even change my opinion by the end. Yes, who knows! However, this will NEVER put me off Anne Rice, she is still one of my favourite authors.

Review: this book seems to follow the same format of nearly all of the other vempire chronicals - in the first chapter he decides to record his story - from human to vampire. i am a fan of rice's earlier works - but this one is unoriginal and involves some themes i am not comfortable with. the scene where marius has sex with the young mortal boy bothered me, not the sex part, but the fact that the boy was an orphan and had been horribly abused, and was desperate for love. marius took advantage of this in my oppinion, so growing up he thought he was in love with marius, but he really wasn't given the opportunity to experience a love that was nonsexual.

Review: Very disappointing. I can hardly believe that this author is the same person who wrote 'Interview with the vampire', 'The Vampire Lestat' & 'Queen of the damned'. I am not a prude, but I was extremely offfended by some of the subject matter - is Anne advocating child molesting? At a time when pedophilia is responsible for destroying thousands of young lives, I believe that it is very wrong to seemingly approve of such an abomination, whether the molestor is a vampire or not. Besides this, the descriptions were interesting, if a bit dragged-out. And there were many anomalies - now Armand didn't order Claudia's death? I am glad I didn't pay for this book (it was loaned to me). I would consider it money down the drain (or sewer perhaps). Such a letdown, after the first 3 vampire books & 'The Witching hour'.

Review: Now I loved interview with the vampre. I thought Queen Of the Damned was good, too. PAndora was okay. But this was nasty. Anne Rice's works are steadily decreasing in originality,and suspense. The Vampire Armand is just a Testament to this. It fails to involve you, and when it does its because a young *boy* as had oral sex performed on him by a vampire. I had to re-read that part a couple of times to make sure I was not making a false judgement. Don't read this peice of trite, it is a far cry from Ms. Rice's older books.

Review: From what I've read of the excerpt, the Vampire Armand isn't too bad. When I actually get it I'll read it mroe in depth. But when reading the Vampire Lestat, the one I wanted to know more about was Marius. The millenium Child. I hope Anne Rice writes a book about him.

Summary: This book is awesome!
Review: "The Vampire Armand" is clearly Anne Rice's best work ever! Armand had been my favoite of all the vampires from the start and I had been dying to know more about him because she had written him as so dark and mysterious. Lestat is far overrated. There's just TOO much on him and there needs to be more about the others. I must admit, though, the beginning was very, VERY good, but the middle of the middle lost my interest, but I, nonetheless, trudged along through it and was happy I did.

Review: ok I like the story in the start but as I go on.. the story begins to be boring.. the setting is so good it is like going back in time. But the story in quite boring. This is my first Anne Rice book but i didn't even finish it. but I'll give it a 3 star for a book well narrated.

Summary: The perfect cure for insomnia
Review: I was very disappointed by this book, not to mention bored out of my skull. I have been a Rice fan for over a decade and I used to run to the store to buy her latest books. I am not even sure if I will even get to the store at all for her next novel. If you are not familiar with Rice, please start with her earlier work. Nothing new in this one...endless descriptions that do not bring anything to the story. However, if you have problems sleeping, this should help cure your insomnia in a snap!

Summary: My Review of 'The Vampire Armand'
Review: I loved this book. It is truly awe inspiring. Fans of the Vampire Chronicles will absolutely love this book. Until now, "The Vampire Lestat" was my favourite book in the Chronicles, now this one is. I must disagree with Alfred Molina in one particular area. I do not believe that Armand was sold to Marius as sex slave. I see it as Marius saving these young boys from a life slavery and raising them as the sons that he never had and could never have. I must admit that in some scenes between Armand and Marius are rather sexually explicit, in most cases, Armand asked for what he received from Marius. In most sex slavery cases - the slave does not enjoy the treatment while the giver does. In this case, remembering that Marius, being a vampire, only gets pleasure from blood, he [Marius] would be getting no pleasure while Armand did get pleasure. Apart from this, I totally agree with review that Alfred gave. Armand tells a compelling story about his life and life after death. Some parts of his life, mortal & immortal, are quite saddening. This story is proof that vampires can be "innocent" and "good", despite how evil they really seem.

Summary: Who doesn't love Armand?
Review: I love Armand(next to Lestat, of course). I was thrilled at the prospect of learning of his origins and his life before the dark gift. I have to admit being a little disappointed with the results. Not that Ms. Rice isn't at her glorious best, but, I just didn't find that connection like I did with THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. It just didn't ooze with fire and brimstone like it did at Lestat's vampiric creation. I guess the one thing that made me go huh was the sexual slavery of Armand to his master and the apparent violations that took place over a small period of time. It just didn't sit well. But, Ms. Rice is the author and she knows where her characters came from, so that will just have to be good enough.
