Rating: Summary: Not as good as the others in the series Review: There's something a little too creepy about parts of this plot, even for a series that's about creepy things. Anita does some things that would have made me hide my eyes and go "Oh, yuck!" if this was a movie instead of a book. I also agree with the other reviewers that Hamilton is putting too much emphasis on sex. I have a hard time getting enthused about the lycanthropes. Less of them and more of the vampires like Jean-Claude and Asher would be very welcome. In fact, I like Asher better than Jean-Claude right now. Maybe Anita should get rid of both Richard and Jean-Claude and go for Asher.
Rating: Summary: S&M anyone? Review: I have read all of the author's books and have enjoyed the character of Anita Blake. She is tough and is not afraid to show it or use it. However, I am getting rather tired and turned off by all the psuedo-S&M/orgy stuff and Anita justs seems to be very busy handling "wherewolf clan" problems. All the suspense seemed to have left the series and the Love Triangle needs to be resolved one way or the other, it is starting to become a bore. What happened to her "job" of raising the dead or does Anita not need to make a living anymore! I hope the next book will bring back a plot and bring some resolution to this love triangle.
Rating: Summary: <sigh> I miss the real Anita Review: Don't get me wrong, I *LOVE* the Anita Blake novels. She's sassy, bitchy, and a real character... until now. Progressively the books are getting out of hand. Anita's powers are becoming a little too unrealistic and her relationship with ol' Rich and Johnny is a little TOO convenient. I much preferred it when Anita actually had some weaknesses as opposed to the magically beefed-up version of her now. The only saving grace is that her character is still complicated and not just wishy-washy, although getting a little too disturbed, admittedly. Still, it was an entertaining book. I suggest it to those looking for a "non-thinker" book.
Rating: Summary: The Very Worst of the Series!!! Review: There was really nothing worth liking about this latest entry into the Anita Blake series. If you read the previous installments, this one made no sense. What happened between Jean Claude and Anita since "Burnt Offerings"? Her feelings toward him certainly changed since that book. Ms. Hamilton developes relationships between character's and then tosses them out with no explanations. Anita does the same things over and over. The "munin" thing is really getting old. Also the relationship with Richard is boring and tiresome. He has never been an interesting guy and after this book he still isn't. I for one miss the old Anita. I also miss Larry, Edward and Willy. This will be the last book I purchase in this series. If you want a tough, funny heroine, read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. She's consistent and very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Great!! Review: I loved this book!! I have all 8 of them. A friend lent me Guilty Pleasure, and after I read it, I went and bought the whole set. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the set. Anita is learning how to use her power and that's great. If she wants to love both Richard and Jean-Claude, she should. No one can pick and choose who they love. All the characters pulled me through a dark time in my life and I love them all, each one.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful, Can Not wait for the next installment Review: Blue Moon was AWESOME! I was so excited to read it. It only took me two days. I couldn't put it down. I was a little shocked by some of Anita's behavior but that just leaves it open for the next book. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and can not understand why you wouldn't. I highly recommend this novel.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! A return to the Anita we love to know... Review: While I've enjoyed all of the Anita Blake series, her relationships and confusion with same have taken center stage over the past two installments, making me wonder just where our heroine's focus was going to be throughout the rest of the series. Well, I'm happy to report that Anita is back on track! The tone and flow of this book are reminiscent of the first fast-paced novels and even the strange tension between Anita and her various admirers is resolved. Er...sort of. My only regrets are that we didn't see Larry and Edward, but I'll accept the trade off that Anita is finally going to go back to her magical roots and learn something of her powers before tripping into greater trouble. Of course, her powers and influence are starting to edge on the absurd....as Jean Claude says, its getting so you can't do anything with or to the local monsters without getting her permission....but I like the directions she took in this book (I also like the status of relationships at the end). This is a terrific read!
Rating: Summary: Anita and Richard, together again! Review: Anita is still her difficult self, which makes her a great character to follow. She shows her really human side when she has trouble handling her pard and members of the lukoi, and of course, the munin. I was glad she was away from Jean-Claude for a while. I was happy that she was getting more involved with Jason. I really like his character. Even though I like Asher, Damian fascinates me, with his tall pale body, fiery red hair and green eyes. His unexpected devotion to her was a cool unexpected twist. Finally! An Asian werewolf comes in-Shang-Dah. Been waiting to see one. I wondered how come the munin didn't effect him, though. I would like to know what happened to one of my all-time favorite characters--Edward. Where is Death? Is he coming back? (My favorite three are:Anita,Edward and Jason, who ties with Damian.)All I can say is, I can't wait to see what Anita does next!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: Okay, I gave it five stars because I thought it was very good and REALLY enjoyed it much more than Burnt Offerings, but I have to agree with some of the lower star review. All and all I love this book for the character develop, but not that much for the plot. But one thing I miss is the old Anita and the old plots. The mystery mixed with supernatrual terror. Anita using her wits and guns instead of her "almighty" power. Well, to put it simply: I miss Anita just kicking a$$. I am still a fan of Anita Blake and I look forward seeing Edward again in the next novel.
Rating: Summary: More Asher! More Damien! More of the pard! Let's rejoice! Review: I'm happy and yet sad -- I just finished Blue Moon and now I have nothing to read until the next book. [sigh] Ah well, I can just reread this one. I knew from the title that Jean-Claude would most likely be missing for most if not all of the book, but I was pleasantly surprised to find other characters that I loved getting more of a part. Asher (personally I /like/ the scars ^_-) gets to explore new relations with Anita who realizes she can see Jean-Claude's memories of his past with Asher. Damien's day-resurrection (wasn't that in The Killing Dance?) by Anita results in some strange consequences. Jason gets molested by rotting vamps (again! jeez, why do they keep going after /him/??) and the pard has to learn what Anita thinks her responsibilities are as Nimir-ra. All in all a great installment in a wonderful series, but I don't like Richard. The boy-scout werewolf is wearing a little thin....
