Rating: Summary: Great realism....for a fantasy novel. Review: It really interests me that people are writing and complaining about how some of the characters are turning out to be jerks and such. I think that this is very refreshing in a book. Everyone needs to try to remember that this is a fantasy book, however, Laurell does an excellent job of insuring tons of reality throughout the story. Yes, people can be jerks and can turn out unlike we think they are. That's real life. Get over it. This is a very fun series that is constantly developing the characters and keeping things light in a rather grim subject. Characters should evolve over time just like people do. If they didn't, the reviews would begin to talk about stagnation and the like. Laurell, if you read these reveiws, keep up the great work.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books in the series Review: many people seem to think that the antia blake series is getting weaker as it progesses. How ever with each bood Hamilton lets anita grow and change instead of just letting anita stagnate. Hamilton also let some of the other major charters grow and change and in doing so she has made the books a better read. In the latest installmet anita proves the depth of emotion she has for richard and in the end has some very tough choices to make. It is now obvious that the series will continune to grow and prosper well into the future and I hope hamilton will contiue to let her charaters grow.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTED IN THIS ONE - 3 STARS AT BEST Review: THE MINOR CHARACTERS WERE FLESHED OUT, BUT RICHARD HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A REAL JERK. I USE TO BELIEVE HE WAS AT LEAST MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE AN ADULT RELATIONSHIP, BUT AFTER THE LAST TWO INSTALLMENTS, I'M NOT SO SURE. SINCE BOTH ANITA'S LOVERS ARE USERS IN THE EXTREME - BOTH HAVE LIED TO HER ABOUT THEIR POWERS & HERS BY OMISSION - I HOPE SHE'S DITCHED THEM FOR GOOD AND GETS BACK TO HER "SLASH & BURN" POLICY ALONG WITH EDWARD (MAJOR BABE POTENTIAL) AND THE GUYS IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. IT FEELS LIKE WE'VE LOST TOUCH WITH THE REAL ANITA AND HER "GIFT" OF CALLING UP THE DEAD. MORE VOODOO, PLEASE! STILL.....I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT SHE DOES IN THE NEXT ONE.
Rating: Summary: outstanding Review: I am hooked!!! I have read all of Ms. Hamilton's novels and find that this one is the best. The writing takes you away and never brings you back. I can't wait until the next one is out.
Rating: Summary: Great series Review: Yet another excellent entry in an excellent series. The series is actually just continuing variations on a theme, but she somehow manages to keep it fresh with each new novel. Pact with The Red One? I dunno, but the end result speaks for itself. :-)
Rating: Summary: It didn't hold a candle to the rest of the series. Review: I love the Anita Blake series...I really do, but this installment of the series lacked the substance that the other books in this series have(except Burnt Offerings, we won't mention that story). There is just too much sex, and the way Richard and Anita finally get together is too far-fetched. I think the only thing that saved this book from two or one stars was the minor character development. The scenes with Jason, Cherry, Nathaniel, and Zane were very, VERY well done. I think I care more about them than I do about the main characters. Also, Anita reeeaaly needs to stop getting more powers, I liked her better when she could actually lose...it made her more believable. Perhaps Laurell should consider writing a way for Anita to get stripped of some of her powers. All in all, I was not impressed with this book.
Rating: Summary: Another welcome addition in an excellent series. Review: There are the usual fast pace and action, with additioinal growth to the main characthers. can't wait to see what Anita gets into next
Rating: Summary: This was great Review: I loved this book. For once, it didn't single out vamps or werewolves as the bad guys. They are simply different. It also dealt with prternatural polotics and kept you interested and learning about this world. Anita Blake is someone you think of as strong, determined, smart, sexy, and because of her weakness in lust, is remarkably normal. She carries a few toys around, but that's the job. Her embarassment and her power amazes you. Unlike having unlimited power, you learn her limits, and how they affect those around her. Always picking up allies and enimies, she is amazing. The only down side is the end, but it's worth it.
Rating: Summary: Anita is wonderful - but getting too powerful Review: I really miss Edward and his little toys. I can't wait for February and Obsidian Butterfly!!!!Anita is getting a massive cult following on the web as well. I hope this series continues for a long time!
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully different Vampire & Werewolf story Review: absolutely love this series of books. Each one just gets better and better. Can't wait for new ones..
