Rating: Summary: A Fun and Frightening Read Review: If you plan to see the movie version of this book. Wait, the movie is pretty good, but you must read the book first. It is a great book. Scary and fun to read. You can not put this book down. Seriously, if you want a good read, read this.
Rating: Summary: A Classic! Review: This is one book that you can't put down. It is one scary book. It is so scary that tou can't go asleep without thinking about it. These guys can write a good horror novel. I now this will be remembered for a long time. So I would recommend this book who wants to be scared of somthing that they don't want to know. Also you have to read it alone. Believe me on that one.
Rating: Summary: HORROR! HORROR! HORROR! Review: I work in a museum so I should know. This book was TERRIFYING! Not since JURRASSIC PARK or THE SHINING was I ever so scared or enthralled. Margo and D'Agosta are keepers. The Mbwun is one of the most frightening creatures to dwell on the page. The details concerning the dark corners of museums are as a accurate as I like to go on about. I now refuse to go into the science department's storage room alone. I gurantee a white kncukle ride with this "monster under the bed" story. Preston and Child have created a blood thirsty fan.
Rating: Summary: Just Plain AWESOME Review: The Relic is a very detailed novel with suspense, mystery, and a lot of horror. The Relic just keeps you turning pages . People say that it is like Jurassic Park. But I think Jurassic Park is written better all around. The Relic has almost too much detail. With regard to The Relic, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child drift off and get carried away sometimes, when they should just be writing about the plot. The plot is about a big mysterious creature that eats human brains. The creature somehow finds the basement of the Museum of Natural History a few days before a major exhibition opening. Unfortunately, Preston and Child lose you sometimes. They trail off the main plot. But when they stick to the plot, they're overwhelming. The Relic is a very scientific book. It's also very gory. So if you have a weak stomach or hate bloody books, do not read this book. I picked this book mainly because I was restless, looking for a suspenseful story. I did not know what to think about the book. This is what I found out. This book is very gory and scary. Also, this book has strong character details, almost like you know the characters personally. So if you have a strong urge for adventure, suspense, and horror I suggest that you read this book. I thought it was awesome!
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read. If you like horror this is it Review: This book was the best book I'v ever read. It had a wide variety of charactors. I couldn't ever put it down. Usually I can predict what will happen next but in this book anything could happen at any given time.
Rating: Summary: Not the best, but somewhat entertaining Review: This book has a curious jeckle-hyde complex. The first half is great, being both thoughtful and creative. The second half turns the story into a run of the mill butcher-fest. Unfortunate. The authors did a great job setting the mood, then let all the suspense slip away in a highly predictable blood bath. Not hard to read and fun in parts. It could have been a meaningful work, but saddly ends up being the same old stuff.
Rating: Summary: You won't be able to put it down! Review: "Relic" is an incredible piece of work! You won't be disappointed. Great characters, action, and writing all the way through. I can't wait to read Preston's and Child's other novels!
Rating: Summary: Great action, mediocre detail Review: This book had a lot of action and suspense the whole way through. The twist at the end was really surprising, and you couldn't have guessed it if you tried. Unfortunately, the it also leaves a lot of loose ends and confusing "red herring" subplots. I would not say it's any better than Crichton, but it's just as good in its own way.
Rating: Summary: Not to be missed!!!! Review: Okay, so it's not exactly thought-provoking stuff, but I read this book ages ago and it's always stuck in my mind. It's swift and grusome and not to be missed by any horror-fans. Fast-paced and chilling with buckets of really cool characters--loved it.
Rating: Summary: A chiller that fails to chill. Review: Relic starts out creepy and dark, and just might be interesting. But the more you read, the more you will lose interest until the last 150 pages. The climaxes and the surprise ending (Assuming you haven't seen the movie) are worth their weight in ink, but the rest of the book just doesn't hold up. I would recommend this book to people who are comming right out of the Young Adult section.
