Review: Great book. A quick entertaining read. I would have rated it better if I hadn't just read the other books that they had written, I got tired of the rain. Loved the suspense. A real page turner. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Summary: Creepy setting and neat monster grace average story.
Review: Relic impresses with its great, big creepy haunted museum setting and a somewhat nifty monster menace lurking deep within it. On the downside I found the Fox Mulder/Sherlock Holmes inspired Super FBI Agent hard to swallow and the book's narrative unfolds unevenly. Relic follows monster story conventions fairly closely, so an informed read can guess as to what is going to happen next with a good degree of accuracy. On the upside, the book still offers more than a fair amount of nail biting suspense, chills and grue. Monster fans will need no real encouraging to read this, but I encourage them nonetheless. Recommended.

Summary: The best (no question about it!)
Review: Hi. (...) I am 12 yrs. old and I read The Relic. I am doing a project about it in school. It is the best book I have EVER read. It has amazing detail and it has such a spooky idea. I recommend it to anyone who is reading this. I am getting the sequal right away. I told all my friends at school to read it and they did and they all loved it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 35!

Review: One of those rare books that's good from front cover to the end. I read it while laid up from knee surgery and told my wife that she didn't love me if she didn't go get the sequel! This book is great...it's rare in that it scares the hell out of you while forcing you to keep on reading. Don't watch the movie first...it stinks compared to the book!

Summary: Fantastic novel!
Review: Let me first say that I hope you haven't avoided this book because you saw the movie. This book is absolutely GREAT! While the idea of a monsterous villian stalking and killing helpless people is nothing new, Preston and Child have come up with a refreshing and interesting way to develop this killer and have created an extremely spooky setting.From page one, you can see that this book is something special. You are immediately thrown into the heart of the Amazon jungle in search of a tribe of legendary and much feared natives. Next, the authors send you to to New York City. The rest of the novel is set in a huge old dark museum filled with countless natural artifacts, forgotten passages, a very nasty killer, and a lot of fresh blood. I hate giving anything away about plots in my reviews so hopefully that will be enough to set the stage. This book is very well written, the character development is thorough, the scientific explanations are complex but written in such a way as not to confuse the layman. I really enjoy the way P&C always like to throw in a little scientific tidbit every chapter or two to keep you guessing as the story unfolds. They also hold nothing back when it comes to graphic depiction of the violence in this tale. The book itself practically drips blood. If you are into the scientific thrillers, this is as good and original as Jurassic Park. If you easily get bogged down by all the biological explanations and computer jargon, you're probably not a Preston/Child fan anyway. Even so, this book still carries a white knuckle plot and a heavy dose of gore to pull you through. Maybe not for those prone to nitemares.

Review: This is not the kind of book you want to read if you scare easily. I can honestly say, it gave me the creeps! This is a well written book. Probably the scariest book I have ever read aside from Dean Koontz's "Nightfall". Enjoy!!

Summary: Relic got me hooked on Preston & Child
Review: I've read all of their books with the exception of The Ice Limit, and Relic is thus far their best. The authors' settings always seem to be in the bowels of some location, and, in the case of Relic, in the sub-basement of a natural history museum with its dark corridors and cramped spaces. It's a read that in many instances frightened, chilled, and thrilled me. As monstrous as the creature was, I could not help but feel a degree of empathy for it, particularly toward the end of the book. Forget the movie; it did absolutely no justice to this very well-written and carefully crafted story.

Summary: One of My All-Time Favorites
Review: Amazingly, I can't think of one negative thing to say about this totally engrossing nail-biter, which so far is the zenith of the authors' work. Appealing, witty characters, amazing monster, intriguing genetic and evolutionary techno-babble, great spooky museum atmosphere, stomach-churning action sequences. There are even a couple of touches of romantic tension which are fortunately kept very subtle (as it should have been in "Mount Dragon"). Thank goodness I read "Relic" before seeing the so-so movie version, which featured a rather cool monster but entirely left out some of the most interesting characters, FBI Agent Pendergast, reporter Bill Smithback, George Moriarty; and combined three museum officials into one character. Do NOT base your opinion of "Relic" on the movie, read the original story. I also highly recommend the atmospheric unabridged audiotape.

Summary: A Wonderful Book With NO Flaws
Review: The Relic was a wonderful book full of surprises. In no way did I ever feel confused or wishing I knew what was happening in the story. A mix of Congo and Jurrasic Park, a Chrighton Fan's dream. A great story full of archeology, science, technology, and pure imagination and fun leave the reader spell bound and frightened Mubwn ( the monster from this tale ) will jump from the shadows. A great read. I HIGHLY reccomend it!
