Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: The Relic was a book I found on a shelf and picked up on a whim.
I'm glad I did as it was one of the most enjoyable "fun reads" I've has in a while. Combining mystery with technology, the authors have come up with a real pageturner which is soon to be released a s a major motion picture.
If you enjoyed Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain, or the Clive Cussler novels I think you'll find this to be a great read for a snowy winter night.
I had a hard time putting it down and you probably will too. It's one of the few books I've lent out to a few people and has come back with all strong reviews.
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: I was not familiar with the authors when I bought this book.
Once I started it, though, I didn't want to put it down. It
almost made me scared of the dark! The beginning grabs your
attention and keeps it as the story builds. As a frequent museum-goer, I can attest to many of the details of the fascinating setting the Preston and Childs have created. The
twist at the ends leaves a wonderful opening for another book!
One thing is for sure, I'll never look at museums the same way,
especially after dark . . .
Rating: Summary: As good as Jurassic Park Review: This is not a book to sit down to read late at night or when you have something else to do or somewhere to go. Once you start it, you have to finish the whole thing.
As you read, you begin to realize that you are listening for "those" sounds and sniffing for "those" scents that are the clues that the thing is there with you. Reading this book is as exhausting as watching an Indiana Jones movie, you stay as tense and as on edge as the characters through the whole thing.
A wonderful read. A true shame that the producers of the movie which has been made has as of yet to release it.
Rating: Summary: A great book which would be better if more detail was given. Review: A great book which borrows from the plots of Alien, Jaws,
and Jurassic Park. Still, the cliches are written in new
and interesting ways. The setting for the book, the American
Museum of Natural History, couldn't be better. The dark, lonely hallways of the museum make it the ultimate haunted house. Yet, the authors write about the settings in little detail. One would have to visit the museum to truly capture
the sense of menace the museum provides. The plot is believable
but the characters are a little one-dimensional. Yet, this is
not a character driven novel, this is just a fun read meant to
be taken lightly. The creature is one of the most interesting
monsters to have been created in a long while. I can't wait for the
sequel or the movie.
Rating: Summary: What a thriller. A real page-turner. Review: What an excellent book. This compares nothing to Jurassic Park & The Lost World. I couldn't put the book down. The authors took the imaginative and made it appear real!! I loved it!!
Rating: Summary: Shades of Jurassic Park and Jaws. Review: This is a chilling thriller that will keep you riveted to the edge of your seat. The authors take you on an adrenaline-laden adventure from the darkest part of the Amazon Basin to the heart of downtown New York. Margo Green, a researcher for the New York Museum of Natural History finds herself in the midst of a massacre. Journey with her through this creepy thriller. Definately not for the squeamish
Rating: Summary: An average fiction/thriller read with interesting plot twist Review: Preston and Child try to set the story up by flashing back to the late 80s.
They succeed in confusing me to the point of almost putting the book down.
It also seems like they have a list of ethnic names and are determined to use
each and every one of them.
Don't get me wrong. The story finally picks up, though, and when it does. . . Look out. I thought the ending was a bit disappointing, but they left it open
in a very, VERY interesting way.
I would recommend it. Not on par with Jurassic Park, though for suspense.
Rating: Summary: The best roller coaster ride I've ever taken. Review: The best written suspense book to come around in along time.
A page turner, that you just can't put down. Finished it in one day.
Rating: Summary: A monster of a mystery that will have you squirming for days Review: Rest and breathe easy for the first ten pages. Thereafter
you are on a ride that you can't stop. Page turning at its
best. Short, quick reading chapters that are almost perfect
for a train or bus commuter. Almost perfect? Well, it is
pretty much guarenteed you are going to miss your stop,
you'll probably even miss your town.
Rating: Summary: Relic: A combination of science, suspense and sleuthing... Review: A combination of antropology, biology, environmentalactivism and natural history, Relic is a thrilling, page-turning adventure. Plausable, believable and engrossing, I got a sunburn because I was so involvedin this book!
Using technical terms, but explaining everything in plain English, this book is a cross between JurassicPark and Clive Cussler. It has some gore, but nothing excessive or gratuitous: most of it is necessary to increase the sympathetic fear level of the reader. The clear description of the creature's stench and sight will have you shuddering.
The book is not without faults: one loose end was never explained (what happened to Pendegrasts's wife)and it was slightly predictable in places. Near the endthe suspense peters ou
