Summary: ONE OF THE BEST KING BOOKS EVER !!
Review: IT PUT CHILLS IN MY SPINE AND STILL DOES. I LOVED THE BOOK, HAVE ALWAYS HAD A FEAR OF CLOWNS AND NOW THE FEAR IS DOUBLED. EVERY SPINE TINGLING CHAPTER FROM THAT BOOK. WAS TAKEN FROM REALITY AND TRANSFORMED INTO THE MINDS AND LIVES OF THOSE FRIENDS WHO STUCK TOGETHER TO FIGHT OFF A CHILD HOOD TERROR. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT READING MATERIAL. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE VERY YOUNG OR WEAK AT HEART! DO NOT READ ALONE OR IN THE DARK! WATCH OUT FOR PENNY WISE... WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE TV MOVIE ALSO WITH TIM CURRY AS PENNY WISE. WHAT A WONDERFUL CLEVER DECISION TO CAST HIM IN THE PART. HE FIT IN VERY VERY WELL. LONG LIVE STEPHEN KING. KEEP THE TERROR AND NIGHTMARES COMING!! LOVE, TINA IN JACKSONVILLE FLA

Summary: fascinating
Review: Never have I experienced such a storm of emotions in one book.So much love, fear, desire, evil and innocence.I loved it's brilliant character sketches and King's mastery of depicting the beautiful awakenings of adolescence, particularly in his portrayal of young Ben's yearning for Beverly. The beautiful Haiku poem and the scene where he sees Beverly's gold chain flashing in the sun and his desire is truly born, are probably two of the loveliest scenes I've ever witnessed in a book.

Summary: King turns a 300-page idea into an 1100 page bloated mess.
Review: I've read the other reviews, all proving why King is a gazillionaire, while I'm a schmuck. Nevertheless, I thought IT was a dissapointing waste of time. The first King book I ever read was The Stand, a book so good that I've probably read it six times in the last decade. On the strength of The Stand, I wanted to read more King. IT was my next effort. This thing plods. It drags. You get the point about 100 pages in. After that it's the same basic thing again and again and again and AGAIN AND AGAIN AND ARRRGGHHH! By about 500 pages the only thing that kept me going was the old well-I've-already-invested-this-much-time-in-it-I-may-as-well-see-how-it-ends attitude. By page 700 I was growling to myself "this thing better have one killer ending."

Surprise, surprise. It fizzles big time.

And what's with King's fascination with pubescent sex? All of a sudden this young (10-ish, as I recall) girl suddenly decides the only way to beat the bad guy is to have sex with six boys back to back. I thought that was cheap, sleazy, and insulting.

Since then I've read a few more King efforts. All seemed thin and exploitive. Stick with The Stand. END

Summary: The Scariest thing in Text
Review: Stephen King wrote on the back of "Pet Semetary" that even he was scared by "Pet Semetary".. that did not even compare to "It." "It" moved me so much that even the music I listened to at the time I read it reminds me of the book and the feelings that went along with that. It still scares me to death. King is known more of just a horror writer rather than a GOOD writer- but there's more to this book than just horror. The development of the plot, the way the layers of characters are peeled back, and just the general flavor of the book- it's amazing.

Summary: hard to put down.
Review: I read the book while i was in school. my study hall was never taken up by a math book etc. i had the book in my hands. i hated having to put it down. it was the best book i've read by stephen king so far. to get the end you have to imgine beyond the surface. it's not just a spider but the spider is the only image we can hold in our minds. for those of you who think the end was bad then read to this: "IT" isn't a spider. "it" is a form of the childrens greatest fears in the world. IT IS NOT A SPIDER! if you can't see that then you shouldn't be reading books that require you to have an imagination. and it is a pity that the world we live in doesn't have the ability to see and to imagine. reply to this entry if you want to discuss stephen kings works of art. if you want to argue about the end then i'm here for that too.

Summary: very natural understanding of real friendship
Review: All I can say - I loved this story...and I wish to be able to write my own book a ten times worse than King's - even that would be honour for me. I liked Bev Marsh and Bill most. Fight demons inside yourself if you want to become free someday.
