Rating: Summary: The best King book Review: I read this one a while back, and I can honestly say it kept my attention all the way through. So many things are done well in this book that it has changed my perceptions on a few key things. The characters in this book are all great. You'll root for the good guys and look down upon the villains. My favorite was Bill, the author. My favorite villain was Bowers, by far. But what sets this book apart from the other King novels is that the book is so immature and innocent, but tackles such controversial issues that it cannot be considered a 'kid's book' by any means. Loved it. I'd say this is a lot better than The Stand.
Rating: Summary: Perfectbook! Review: This is a great book... and one of my very favorite ones Stephen King wrote. The Stand was another one that I truly loved, but let's go on with IT. I think IT was a great book because of the characters, friendship, and horror in it. The beggining was sort of bad since it talked about those men like that, but the rest was perfect! It was worth reading it, and for those of you who quit reading it because it was "too long" then you missed a lot or are just lazy and hate reading. I would re-read it , but I need to buy the book again if I am going to since a whole bunch of pages fell out since it was old. The movie was very good too, and long, but had tons of details in it also. Ready it if you like horror... and if you are terrified of clowns! The ending was very surprising, and it did make me understand why that monster kept saying "They all float down here.." You'll know what I mean if your read it.
Rating: Summary: By far, King's best novel yet Review: Never have I been so drawn into a book. It is one of King's longest, and for good reason. You get to know the characters better than you know yourself. I was sad when this book ended, simply because I had become so attatched to the characters. I recomend this book to anyone. Deffinitely my favorite King book, if not my favorite book of all time.
Rating: Summary: Will make anyone afraid of the dark Review: Probably King's greatest work, "It" has it all. King writes with great sensitivity about the hardships of growing up--bullies, child abuse, death of loved ones, killer clowns--and how important childhood friends are in helping you cope. Not only is this book a moving depiction of childhood, it is also mind numbingly frightening as it directly confronts every fear you've ever had and it makes even the nozzle in a shower seem terrifying. A quick read despite it's 1000 pages, I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER! Review: He thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts! I am only thirteen years old and this was my first King novel. My favorite character was Ben. When I finished the book, I didn't want it to end. I felt that I knew the characters in real life. I found myself reading bits and pieces of the book over and over. Especially Part 2: June of 1958. That was probably my favorite part of the book. I loved the parts of the book where they were kids. The adult parts were good too, but it just seemed better when they were all together. A great book. A must read!
Rating: Summary: This book was interesting and scary. Review: This book was interesting , scary , it was an edge of your seat thriller that kept you wanting to read it.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books you'll ever read!! Review: It is like downloading a game off the internet. This book takes awhile to read, but it is worth it. You will be looking under your bed every night you read this book. It is scary, but yet so captivating that you will ever want to put it down. A story which confronts childhood horrors head on.
Rating: Summary: King's Best! Review: I read this book when I was about fifteen years old, and perhaps that's why I found it so affecting and moving. I could still vividly remember (a few years before) being afraid of the dark, of monsters under the bed and in the closet...being terrified to look out my bedroom window at night because something might be looking back in at me. I'm still moved when I re-read the book now (over ten years later), even though my memories of childhood fears make them seem silly (and childish, as they were). It's almost as if this book helps me to reclaim a bit of the innocence that was lost when I learned to start "fearing" things like death (abstractly), the IRS, losing my job, medical bills, and making sure I provide well enough for my family, instead of the bogeyman in the dark room. King's descriptive passages are right on...after reading it, I felt almost as though I'd lived it. I know it's a long read, but King creates a whole world for his characters..."It" is far and away my favorite of King's works.
Rating: Summary: I am finally going to sound off about this book! Review: I went through a huge Stepehen King phase in the mid 80's in my early teens. For my 15th birthday, I was fervently praying for his new book, "IT" in hardcover. I loved the suspense, the horror..for two weeks I could not put this book down while I plowed through it. The story was well plotted, and it never felt to me that I was reading a book over 1000 pages long. The characters are great, the story wonderfully eerie..With that said, I must say that I only gave this three stars on a personal bias. The portrayal of the gay men at the beginning of the novel was not only rather stereotypical, but it surely made us feel no sympathy for them. They were freaks in themselves. As a teen who was struggling with his sexuality as he read "IT", that was enough to put me off King for years. Maybe it was personal sensitivty, but I do feel that many other ethnic/minority groups would not have been portrayed in such a nasty manner. True, this was the 80's when homophobia, due to AIDS and the like, was reaching an all time high. But to see soemthing like this in popular fiction and having nobody ever even address it because he is such a well known author,a nd well liked is sad. I am glad to be reading King once again, and I have let bygones be bygones. I do not advocate taking this book of the shelf or revising it, I just see it as a dark spot on his career. Word of advice: skip the part about the gay men, and just enjoy the rest of the book.
Rating: Summary: Boring, slow, takes forever to get through Review: I read this book in about 3 weeks, which is long for me, since I usually finish in about a week with a book. I finished the first 200 pages in one day and after that it went VERY slow. It could of been slimmed 200 - 300 pages and been fine, but I had to read boring interludes, and hear fifth graders swear constantly. I don't think it was realistic and the sexual references were sometimes needed, but mostly not. I think King was more worried about having a long book, than having a good one.
