Rating: Summary: A grand horror epic. Review: Stephen King's IT demands a pretty big investment from readers. At more than 1000 pages it seems like a helluva mountain to climb and I can understand the hesitation a lot of people have when they first pick it up. (It's a hefty muther, so remember to lift with your legs!) But as intimidating as it may seem, the reward in the end is extraordinary and it is a journey you will never forget... A group of children, struggling to survive the cruelties of being outsiders and "geeks", find themselves battling for the survivial of the entire town when the epitome of the boogeyman crawls forth from beneath the town. The creature takes the shape of a demented clown named "Pennywise", but like the devil, it is legion and can take many guises; capitalizing on their individual and most personal fears. Through sheer bravery and desperate love for one another, they manage to slay the beast and send it back to where it came from. Decades later, however, as adults who have all gone their separate ways, they are called back home by one of their members who stayed behind as a kind of Watcher. The evil has returned, he tells them, and it is up to them to finish the job they started as children. But the unspeakable IT (aka Pennywise) is expecting them and it will make them pay for what they did to it those many years ago... As big as this book is, and as intimidating as it seemed when you first opened the cover, turning the last page will break your heart. It is a novel to be cherished again and again.
Rating: Summary: It's scary, the book and the creature Review: This book is one of King's best. A lot of books give you good, deep characters but this one gives you more than that. I felt like I was reading about old buddies after awhile and that only adds to the stakes when they are raised, and they are. The premise is solid and the flashing from present to future and back again works well. It(the evil entity of King's book) is a fully realized evil that makes for a scary read. That's not to say that this is King's scariest but certain scenes will give you chills. I found the book to entertaining and while I'm raving about the detailed characters and endless information let me say what sometimes made It a chore. The detailed characters and endless information. All of this makes for a deep, satisfying read but at points I found myself hoping for something to happen. Anything other than another encounter that felt just like the last. These are scarce moments but if you find 1000+ pages a daunting task you may wish to look elsewhere. This book's length and complexity are its strong points but they also slow things down. That said, this is a great read.
Rating: Summary: Quite possibly the greatest book ever Review: Words cannot express the sheer genius of this novel. If you havent read this book, i pity you. I dont care if you dont like horror that much, if you can put two words together you have to read this book!!
Rating: Summary: Quintessential King! Review: Quintessential King is the only way to describe IT. From start to finish, King has used every tool in his arsenal in IT to keep you coming back for more. Masterful descriptions of the characters and their surroundings provide a vivid image of who they are and what they are seeing. No one in any genre is able to provide the realism that I feel when I read a King novel. The monumental fights between good and evil in IT are handled in such a way that there is no doubt left in the mind of the reader as to who is the "good" and who is the "evil," yet the struggle is shown to be ongoing and requiring vigilance on the part of every person. King uses his ability to infiltrate the minds of the readers and the characters to provide a very realistic vision of the human condition. IT includes love, hate, anger, reconciliation, defeat, victory, submissiveness and dominance in various situations and ways to create the all inclusive battle of good vs. evil that is a daily struggle for us all.
Rating: Summary: it (al)lures... Review: this book tops them all. as much as tedious as i found long novels to be, this one brought a keenness i will never forget. let us take a moment to meditate to this gift God has given us... thank you King.
Rating: Summary: Derry Man Reviews Review: Being from Derry in Ireland myself this book was a sincerely creepy affair. I loved the magnificent seven/seven samurai premise. It rawks! I read the Danse Macabre anthology of horror book by Mr King right before starting IT. IT contains a lot of the theories expounded in DM regarding our deepest fears, similar to The Body, It's young characters always land me in my past with a bump reminiscent of falling off the swing again. One word more CLASS
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: I never read Stephen King before, too much blood and gore {Carrie, Shining, etc.} Then my son read IT. He insisted I had to read it. It has me hooked on certain Stephen King books. If you don't read King, this is a must to show you he is a great writer of scary stories with great insight. I have read most of his books now. Dreamcatcher is on the same level. Do not judge King on the moivies, books are far better.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: I read this book in two weeks (well . . . thirteen days) and loved it. One thing that most people don't mention is how funny King can be. I've read a lot of books by a lot of authors (Koontz being my favourite) but nobody can make me giggle the way King does. Yes, there are some rather scarry scenes, and I think I did myself well by reading it during the day, but this ISN'T a horror novel. Not on your life. So ya, READ IT!!!
Rating: Summary: unforgettable Review: as a matter of opinion, this is the best book i have ever read. for those of you who enjoy a flash into the past to your disturbing childhood, i'd recommend this to you. well written... and truly a landmark in American fiction.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I first saw the movie It, which prompted me to read the book, and I'm glad I did. I thought the movie was good until I read the book. It is fantastic; I love how deep the characters' friendship runs. I never thought a horror book would make me cry, but the last few pages of this one did. I highly reccommend this book, along with Dreamcatcher and the compiled stories in Different Seasons.
