Summary: It's very good, but...
Review: I enjoyed this book a lot, but I didn't love it. I read it after seeing the TV show, and that might be the reason why I felt let down. The TV show was better. The visual qualities of the novel went to waste after seeing them on the screen. It is a good read though and I do recommend it, but it's not one to take your breath away. I look forward to reading his other stuff to see if it improves.

Summary: It would have worked better as a comic
Review: Not all in all a bad book. Amusing, dark, not actually scary, it reminded me unfortunately of Clive Barker (can't stand 'im) at times. The writing was good when it was appropriately light and dark near simultaneously--for example, the ordeal which Our Hero tries sensibly to avoid, where he is given a cup of nice tea and then the book launches into a very nice bit of horror, is well done. On the other hand, the book was missing the vitality present in Gaiman's comics, which use their illustrations to the fullest effect. The book just felt a little flat at parts.

Summary: Neil Gaiman is the greatest fanasist of our time.
Review: This book was simply one of the best books I've ever read. Neil Gaiman deserves a noble prize.

Summary: A tired plot badly written.
Review: Take Douglas Adams and Clive Barker, put them in a blender on low speed and sieve the remaining sludge through a filter which extracts talent and originality - and you have "Neverwhere." Reading this book reminded me how glad I was that I had long past burned the fiction I had produced in high school. I gave this book 2 stars rather than the signle one I was tempted due to the one sentence gems of literary promise which emerged from the muck every three pages or so. There is scattered evidence that Gaiman can write, however he has a lot of work ahead of him if he wishes to produce a novel worthy of the paper it's printed on. The amount of people giving this book five stars is frightening, and I suspect these readers need the same type of exposure to well honed literature (the kind without pictures) as Gaiman himself.

Review: I think that this is the best book I have ever read. I wish there was a sequel to the book. I got so into this book that i couldn't get out of it. I loved the painting that Neil Gaimen wrote for me. I hope he sees this so that he may wrote a sequel.

Summary: great
Review: This book was good because it was well written and more importantly, in my opinion, had excellent use of humor to aid gaimon's writing. I loved it.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: I have always been a fan of Neil Gaiman's, ever since I was introduced to his work through the "Sandman" series of comic books, so when I heard he had written a novel, I was anxious to read it to see if the storytelling was of the same standard. I was not disappointed. All the characters are well depicted, with the names taking on a fascination for those who have lived in, or are familiar with London. Despite my penchant for horror, I still found the main demons repulsive and their activities almost too well-described for comfort. The story was a page-turner, and even though I had devoured it over a short period of time, I found myself lingering over the last chapter, not wanting it to end. This is right up my street, doesn't wallow in descriptives, and provides the correct mixture of horror, fantasy and humour with a touch of pathos. I can't wait to read his next book, and may even splurge on the hardback rather than wait for the paperback version!

Summary: This is actually about a 4- read
Review: I read NEVERWHERE after one of my web site's reviewers reviewed STARDUST and attracted the attention of Mr. Gaiman. As a result of that review and my reading NEVERWHERE and GOOD OMENS, I interviewed him and that interview can be found at All About Romance at http://www.likesbooks.com

I enjoyed NEVERWHERE and was taken by its quixotic nature and how fun the author made the villains, well, most of them. It was also the most "visual" book I've ever read, which fascinated me. Having interviewed the author, I'm all the more fascinated!

Summary: One of the best books I have read in quite a long time.
Review: Neil Gaiman was a complete unknown until a friend suggested I read "Neverwhere". I had just finished reading "The Stand" by Stephen King when I started it, and I must say that it compares very favorably in it's vivid and graphic descriptions of things that would shock and terrify all of our everyday lives! I will forever be more aware of people on the street, and wonder if they are from a world outside our everyday lives.

Summary: For booklovers everywhere, Neverwhere is a real treat
Review: This book is just wonderful, truly wonderful. Reading just doesn't get any more fun than this. Thank you, Neil Gaiman, for helping me believe in magic again.
