Rating: Summary: wow. Review: okay, when i first picked up this book, i though, 'oh god, curses? witches? PA-LEAZ' and automatically left the book back on the shelf. but when i found there was nothing else to read, i picked it up once more and brought it home. from the first page to the last, i fell in love with the characters and plot. nell channing, a woman looking to seek shelter on an island from her abusive husband, developes and grows to be who she wants to be and not who she's suppose to. this is about love, and the strength to turn away from the only place we know.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I hated it when I was finished reading it!
Rating: Summary: Roberts does it again! Review: Nora Roberts is the queen of light, airy romance. If you are looking for a series to curl up in front of the fire and feel warm and cozy with, the Three Sisters Island trilogy is a must-have.Ms. Roberts does not disappoint in this first novel in the series. Dance Upon the Air is a great read in which we are introduced to the quaint Three Sisters Island and its wonderful year-round residents. A new arrival on the island revives old legends and lore, and the tail begins. We are introduced to sweet Nell, running from something, but no one knows what. She is soon accepted as a permanent resident on the island, thanks to her fabulous cooking skills, and friendly personality. But, will Nell's past come back to haunt her? Does she have a deeper connection to the island? You'll have to read Dance Upon the Air to find out. The read is definitely worthwhile and an enjoyable Nora Roberts novel. If you are unfamiliar with Ms Roberts, this is a great way to become acquainted with her reading. Enjoy! 20 Nov 2002
Rating: Summary: Magickal, but stereotypical. Review: I thought this book was great. I am a witch myself and it struck home with me. I love Nell's mentor and I think their practices are beautiful. The trouble here, as with all Nora Roberts books, is that the "beautiful heroine with a haunted past finds comfort in the one man she never dreamed would be hers." They're really all the same storyline, after all. Despite the flawless heroine and the overpowering male chauvinistic actions of the hero, I did enjoy the book. The ending, however, was far too quick and even a little confusing. I would have liked a bit more information.
Rating: Summary: First book in the trilogy is a great start! Review: I don't know if it's because Nora Roberts is so popular or so prolific that I just have a hard time believing her books can be as addicting as they always turn out to be. I am one of those TRUE romance fans that don't like suspense or thought so until Nora Roberts (AKA JD Robb) made me eat my words. I'm still pouting over that but gorging myself on her books all the same. And I detest myself for that part of me that still wants to cling to the belief that I am a PURE romance reader. A few days after I finish one of her books (All 3 of the The BORN IN series books, Carolina Moon, Honest Illusions, Private Scandals, The Perfect Neighbor and all of JD Robbs "IN DEATH" series books), I continually tell myself I didn't really enjoy the book as much as I thought. Then I read another of her books and am amazed all over again and again. When I picked up Dance upon the Air a few days ago, I just knew I would hate this book. A book about witches? What a bunch of hooey! I finished the book in less than 2 days. I couldn't wait to dive into her next book in the series, Heaven and Earth which I also devoured in less than 2 days! Now I can't wait to dig into Face the Fire. Oh yes, I have mud all over my face but dang it, she can write a page turner! And she can make me like books on subjects that I don't think I care about. But now, I want to open my own eclectic bookstore on a nice island town like this 3 Sisters island. It makes me want to wish I could cook like Nell, have the presence, grace and walk like Mia and the fitness regiment of Reiley. And now I'm thinking, what's so hooey about a few nice witches? Why was I so closed-minded and so judgemental in the first place about a subject I knew squat about? Nora Roberts has a wonderful ability to endear the reader into the world she creates and this Three Sisters Island trilogy is another example of that talent. I can resist her no longer, I surrender.(as I bury my face into another of her books) p.s. If you want to try Nora but aren't into suspense, read the 3 Born in Series books or The Perfect Neighbor as I consider them to be more contemporary romance than romance/suspense.
Rating: Summary: I'm hooked! Review: This was my very first Nora Roberts novel, which I know is surprising, since she's written so much. I picked it up to take on a plane ride with me and I was not disappointed! I loved everything about Nell. She's strong, she's determined, she's sweet, smart, and funny. Very resourceful and definatley builds herself up out of nothing. I definately enjoyed her triumph! Read this one and you won't be able to wait to get to the other two!
Rating: Summary: Dance upon the Air Review: This was a delightful book richly woven with pretty details. The only thing I did find somewhat irritating about it is that the element of the story which has Nell faking her own death at the beginning of the book to flee her husband was so uncannilly like the movie Sleeping with the Enemy that it was distracting. The kind of life she led, her starkly modernistic home, not to mention the characters themselves sound remarkably similar. Aside from that, it was lovely!
Rating: Summary: Review Descriptions Review: Please minimize the details of the book when posting a review. Halfway into reading the first review, I realized that the reviewer was giving away some of the surprises in the book. That's no fun!
Rating: Summary: Among her best Review: I've been slowly making my way through everything Roberts has written, and to date, the Three Sisters Island trilogy is up there with my favorites. This book, the first in the trilogy is the best. Nell is the easiest of the sisters to connect with, and I found myself wishing I could visit her in the little yellow house and eat some of her cooking. The other two books are good, but this was by far my favorite of the three.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: Let me just start out by saying, this book is a must read! I was a little disappointed in the ending, but the book was all around great! It's about a girl that moves to Three Sisters Island to try to escape her past. She begins her life over, only to find out that the past will come back to haunt you. The story is very well told. You feel the struggles & fear that Nell goes through. I laughed and cried and even sat on the edge of my seat while reading this book! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! I will say again, I was a disappointed in the ending, but maybe it'll elaborate the details in Heaven and Earth. (I've just started reading it).
