Summary: Couldn't Put It Down
Review: I never read the Relic, but saw the movie and enjoyed it. So, I couldn't help but pick up the sequel. It was fabulous. A great beach read. The ending was disappointing but it didn't bother me to the point where I was disappointed I picked it up. The "mole people" storyline fascinated me.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Starts off promising but slowly fades away
Review: I quite enjoyed Relic, so it was with great anticipation that I began to read Reliquary. The story starts off promising. There is an air of mystery and suspense that continues to build. Perhaps this is the problem. The authors do such a good job of building atmosphere and preparing you for the climax that when it finally comes, it can't possibly live up to your expectations. Instead, when it does come, you're left feeling cheated, as though the authors did not know where else to turn, so they took the trite and easy way out. A far more interesting read would be a non-fiction work about the real "Mole People", the forgotten homeless of New York's underground.

Summary: When's the next one!
Review: While not quite up to the standard of Relic (what has been lately), Preston and Child hit another homerun with Reliquary. This one has a great ending with twists and turns that will keep you hanging on the edge of the chair.

I am looking forward to the novel these two must write that has Pendergast as the main story teller.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Only read if you liked The Relic
Review: Good as a sequel to The Relic, but I cannot recommend it as a standalone book.

Although I thought the plot was well done in general, I think there are three problems with the book. First, I guessed who the villain of the story was about 1/3 into the book. Second, Agent Pendergast has become a comic book "super hero." Is there anything he does not know or cannot do?? Third, I was not pleased with the ending. Over 400 pages of build up and then it's...and they all lived happily ever after! Nothing happens to any of the good guys??

Summary: A better sequel than any other.
Review: Child and Preston have done it again. A spectacular sequel to The Relic. Intense,Fast-paced and well written. Crichton and Barker fans beware, these guys could scare even you.

Review: I must first say that I am a huge fan both of movies and of fictional literature. Admitidly, I enjoy movies a bit more. Yet I am as pissed as the rest of you readers when a book does not reach the potential of the original work. The movie The Relic was good but not great, yet could have been great. Yet, I realize that Hollywood is constricted with a limited imagination at times so I don't falt them too much. And, I also realize the Preston and Childs obviously and quite gloriously do no possess restricted imaginations. Long story short, they created the type of sequel Hollywood would never have the balls to make. While a bit predictable at times, Reliquary defies the traditional movie rule of bringing the anti-hero monster back and instead of being formulic, goes the more intelligent route. Realistic sci-fi in simpler terms. So while the predictible movie fan in me misses the great Museum Beast, the book fan in me applaudes P & C's creative choice. I hope they make another sequel. "Reliquae" perhaps?

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: I read this book in one sitting....could not stop....An excellent follow up to The Relic...You will stay awake with this one and will never ride a subway at night again.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the subway..
Review: Sequels normally fall into two categories . . . crap and really bad crap that ranks up there with tooth decay as a pleasurable experience. That's why I was so surprised to find that RELIQUARY was an excellent read that pulled me through its chapters nearly as quickly as its predecessor, RELIC. RELIQUARY follows the same recipe as ALIENS did in following ALIEN. Take a creature similar to the one in the first of the series and multiply it by a couple dozen or so. Throw in a few new surroundings for freshness and stir in a new mystery or two for flavor. It is a good recipe, however, and provides for an entertaining paperback that may be this season's perfect beach read for the horror-sci/fi crowd. My only complaint is that in a couple of scenes, the authors may tip their hand a bit much in revealing the secrets that lay ahead but for the most part, the puzzles reveal their answers nearly as soon as your brain figures them out. All in all, an awesome book.

Summary: If you dont fall for the characters, you love the monsters.
Review: As with me, Not many books can catch my attention. I am known playfully in native-american terms as "She who skips ahead" even though books are my favorite pass-time. However, after reading the INCREDIBLE Relic, I went forth and bought Reliquary which I finished in two days of solid suspense. This book was without a doubt the most action packed, in your face novels on the market today. And it was also, one of those few that makes you look over your shoulder for something thats not there, though you swore you felt hot, goatish breath on the back of your neck. The story was based perfectly fitting from the Relic, and the characters were people that I wish I could get to know. If you don't cringe in fear from the suddenly hysterical Dr Frock. You skip ahead in the book just to see what happened to Pendergast after he lowered himself into the heart of Devils Attic. (Go Pendergast!) If you are one of those people out there that needs a wringing your hands, heart pounding, "Quick! turn the next page!, Sci-Fi masterpiece, Reliquary is the book for you.

Summary: Cannot Touch the First One!!!
Review: Since I loved "Relic", I was very excited when I saw "Reliquary". Don't bother reading this one. Rehashes things from the first book -- gives you "revelations" that were discovered in "Relic". The characters weren't fleshed out -- very two dimensional. And the ending.... RIDICULOUS!!!! The only thing I liked about his book was the fact that Pendergast plays a more central role, and I did like him. I had to force myself to finish this book -- maybe I shouldn't have, I would probably have liked it better if I didn't!!!! Read their "Mount Dragon" if you liked Relic. MD is not as good, but definitely better than "Reliquary".
