Rating: Summary: PALPITANT, HALETANT, GENIAL!!!
Rating: Summary: New York taken by storm Review: Best-selling "Relic" spawned a little brother, which has a lot in common thematically with the first release but not that much when it comes to its "stamina". With a slower pace and a different approach, Reliquary sets off eighteen months after Mbwun was killed. The decapitated bodies of two people were found in strange circumstances and from then on, the chaos begins. In the approach to make the book less fictional, the authors endowed this story with bums. Their costumes, their behaviors along with their environment known as Underground New York juxtaposes fiction and reality, giving the tale a half-turn from its antecessor. On the bad side, is essential to read "Relic" first. Otherwise, you'll miss the point of the story more than once. Not as breath taking as Relic but a good book to kill your time.
Rating: Summary: I just can't put it down ! Review: I just got the book a couple of hours ago, and I haven't been able to put it down...(Been reading all night long) I'm at work now and I'm very tierd but I've managed to read half of the book, and so far it's the best one from L.C and D.P Definetly better than RELIC and I enjoyed that one very much.. Well I'm pretty tierd so you must forgive my misspellings... But if you liked relic you will love this one!
Rating: Summary: Chilling, Underground world described in great detail Review: Great book, hard to put down. The world below our feet that is described is nothing less that awsome.
Rating: Summary: Starts off well and then degenerates into absurdity Review: I am a big fan of The Relic, both the book and the movie. Therefore, I read with great anticipation the sequel Reliquary. The first half is really interesting as the mysteries begin to unfold. But it ultimately disappoints by leading to a ridiculously over the top and absurd ending, including the obligatory wipe out of an elite military unit (in this case, Navy SEALS) and the Wrinklers sacred ceremonial hut of skulls. Preston and Child acknowledge Jennifer Toth's book The Mole People as the inspiration for their depiction of the tunnels beneath Manhattan, but in the Author's Note they seem to take everything in Toth's book at face value judging by their recommendation of it. I have read several reviews by people knowledgeable about subway tunnels and so forth and they dismiss Toth's references to the miles upon miles of abandoned tunnels and the decaying waiting room complete with piano and mirror lined walls as sheer fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, engrossing and terrifing, however at times slow Review: This book is very well written, exciting and engrossing. At times that pace slows to almost a crawl and at other times, just when the action is the most tense, the scene changes and then returns after the action has taken place and the character is left to tell the story from his perspective, which is somewhat of a let down. There were many story lines that were taking place at one time which took away from the more exciting aspects of the novel. It often took too long to return to the action to keep me reading further at one sitting. I have read all three books by these autors and think this is the second best, after their first, The Relic. Even with the lull in action the story moves along at a fairly good pace, kept my interest and I would recommend it to anyone who has read The Relic
Rating: Summary: An excellent book Review: This is a great book, and you will have a really good time reading it, but the first part (The relic) is much better than this one. It's difficult to do a book better than the first one. I loved the book, and if you've read the first one and you liked it, you should try this.
Rating: Summary: Reliquary Completes the Relic Story, in Fine Style Review: I'm not much into "There's a monster - let's separate so he can kill us one at a time" books. RELIC was interesting but sort of predictable [akin to the mummy seeking Tanna leaves!]. RELIQUARY on the other hand, provides a more logical, rational story. Preston and Child have obviously done their homework on NYC's underground people [Mole People] and the tale reads as plausible. Their description of the Crystal Pavilion is most memorable. More important, at the end of the story, I relished the seemingly complete intermeshing of all main themes of the book. My only hope is that the FILM VERSION will not screw up a good tale! Thanks, guys! Now, out of the sewers and onto another topic. Please!
Rating: Summary: Excitement Underground! Review: I had read "Relic" previously and was not all that impressed with that novel. It was with some trepidation that I started "Reliquary". Boy was I glad that I did. The sheer description of the "Humboldt kill" got my attention at first, and the novel never lost my attention. I really enjoyed the description of the underground world beneath NYC. The action that occured there was thoroughly believable to me. The end of the novel was satisfying and the entire novel was an extremely enjoyable read. I would suggest this novel to anyone wanting an adrenaline rush.
Rating: Summary: Exxelent book, Better than the Relic!!! Review: The Relic is one of the best books there is, but Reliquary is even better. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child ar at their best with this book. The plot is well thought out, and leaves suprises until the very last chapter. Mbwun is a great character, a true monster, and even though it is not very realistic, it gives a new definition of watch your back on those narrow alley ways. This book is very creative, and the sub plots keep you interested during the entire book. 381 pages well read. Keep it coming!!!
