Rating: Summary: "Watchers" is a great starter for young Koontz readers Review: I just finished this book last night. Travis, Nora and Einstein are definately lovable characters slammed into a horrible nightmare. The mix of the love of the three combined with the horror of the Outsider keep you on the edge of your seat. Although there is some graphic violence described, this is, in my opinion, the best book for young readers interested in horror novels. If I had my way I'd have a housefull of Einsteins!
Rating: Summary: Furry, Funny, and Gruesome!!! Review: The watcher's is about two laboratory animals. One who is a dog can communicate with humans. The other which is a beast created in a gene pull is a total killing maching. The problem is when the beast gets jealous of the dog. The dog escapes and comes in contact with a man who tries to save himself and the dog from the beast. One of Koonts' best.
Rating: Summary: Great book full of suspense and chilling terror!! Review: This was an excellent book that kept me up and turning the pages through the night and well into the early morning. It was very suspenseful, one of Koontz's greatest, and my favorite.
Rating: Summary: Predictable and shallow, but still a fun read! Review: I was a little disappointed in this book after hearing so many people rave about it. The characters, plot, and prose are very wooden and totally predictable. Still, the premise (scary monster stalks super-smart, lovable dog) and the hollywood-style plot are enough to make the book an engaging and wholly enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Exciting and heart-pounding thriller!! Review: "Watchers" is by far the best book I have ever read. Koontz is outstanding. This book pulls you right in and does't let you out to the very end. I found myself feeling sorry for the dog and the "Outsider." I was so in to the book that I feel like I was actully there. I have my own vision of all the characters. It was like watching a movie --but better--.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfuly entertaining, suspensful, sad, funny - everything Review: "Watchers" is my all time favorite from Koontz. I laughed out loud numorous times when Einstien did something funny, witty, and intelligent. He was the sweetest dog, and very beleivable. I felt immense pity for The Outsider; he was not asked to be that way, he did not want to kill people, but he had been "programed" to kill. Nora was wonderful; I was so happy for her when she was no longer a reclues; I was sad when she was. Same goes with Travis. Everything was so wonderful and beleivable. Einstein is defintally the best dog every written in any story! I love him! READ IT NOW!
Rating: Summary: koontz at his best!! Review: a terrific summer read. Koontz has an amazing ability to pull his readers along on a journey that could very well end up being the time of their life. Watchers is Koontz at his best and it should be read by all.
Rating: Summary: One of the best horror novels Review: This is one of the three or four best modern horror novels. The genre, "genetic engineering gone bad" is always lots of fun, and Koontz treats it as only a master can. The evil creature even has some wonderful, redeeming features, that are completely unexpected. The intelligent dog reminds one of his early novel "Haunted Earth." I envy those of you who have not yet read this!
Rating: Summary: It just drags on getting more and more annoying. Review: I didn't like this book. I read it about a year ago. It was the second of three Koontz books that I've read. The plot was nearly identical to the other two Koontz books (Dark Rivers of the Heart- loved, Twilight Eyes- hated) which annoyed me: Guy has strange event happen to him, Girl has strange event happens to her, Guy meets girl and they fall in love, then they end up running away from and eventually confronting something related to one or both of the strange events in their past, resulting in a bitter sweat, happy ending. One of the biggest problems with this book was the monster. Sure, Koontz indulges in the gory details and makes the creature sound horrible, but the suspense isn't there. Why must it be that Koontz's monsters virtually have no motive and are just killing because they want humanity to suffer? Every 50 pages or so, someone gets killed, but there is never really an effective scene of the hunter stalking its prey. The Characters that do ge! ! t killed, we don't really care about. He invents characters only to kill them off a few pages later. Meanwhile, for the majority of the book, we know that our heros are safely out of danger with hundreds of miles between them and the monster. There is no sense that anyone at anytime could be killed. The stupidity of the main characters also disgusted me. Without giving away too much, I'll just say that a situation involving daytime and another involving running from the NSA have something to do with it. Finally, a word about the dog. The dog is lovable, too lovable, sickeningly lovable in fact (and I'm a dog lover, believe it or not). It wouldn't be as bad if our heros weren't constantly saying how amazing and fantastic Einstein was and how they wanted to keep him all to themselves. Ug, annoying.
Rating: Summary: If only they could create a movie as wonderful as the book.. Review: This is my favorite Koontz book of all time.I've read almost every book he has written.I love Einstein the dog,for me he was the center of the book.Unfortunately I just watched the fourth movie supposedly based on this book and found it just as bad as the first three. If someone could make a movie that really reflected the characters and content of "Watchers" I am sure it would be a four star movie.I know that Dean Koontz is disappointed in how some of his books have been transfered to screen also. ANYONE READING THIS....PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIES FIRST AND MAKE A JUDGEMENT ON THE BOOK. THE BOOK REALLY IS FIVE STARS!
