Rating: Summary: Koontz's best book Review: A man named Travis finds a dog named Einstien with almost human like intelligence, and is impressed with all of the amazing things he can do. Einstein was created to be part of a government project refered to as the "Francis Project" that consists of Einstien and a killer monster functioning as a team to help soldiers out in battle. Unfortunately, the monster develops a hatred for the dog, and it has also escaped to kill Einstein and anyone else that gets in its way. Travis takes Einstien in, and has no idea about what is coming. Around the same time, Travis meets and falls in love with a woman named Nora who is now also in danger. To make matters worse, there is a professional hitman named Vince Nasco who has been tracking Einstien himself after he learned about the Francis Project through the people he was hired to kill. With danger on all sides, Travis, Nora, and Einstien must go on the run and try to survive! If you are a fan of Dean Koontz you have most lilkely heard of this book's reputation. Countless fans of Koontz claim that "Watchers" is his best book. This is the one time you should believe the hype, because it is his best book. "Watchers" is a suspenseful and terrifying book, that will make you an instant fan of Dean Koontz. I consider it a literary masterpiece that any fan of fiction should read. It offers a thrilling story with non-stop action and terror. Koontz's character development is at its all time best in this book. Travis and Nora, the dog Einstien, the hitman Vince Nasco, and the monster itself are all well developed and facinating. Koontz makes you fall in love with all of the characters, and this is one of the only books I have ever read, where you end up rooting for the bad guys at times. This is definately Koontz's best book, and one of my favorite novels over all. Watchers is a complex story of love, greed, determination, friendship , and terrifying horror. It has something for everyone and the story never gets slow or boring. I have to warn you though, that some of the scenes in this book are terrifying and rather graphic. I found myself flinching at times. This book is also extremely hard to put down as well. I spent an entire day reading this book, and focused on nothing else until I finished it.
Rating: Summary: Five star book Review: Although I enjoy a good Koontz book from time to time, I was hesitant to read this book based upon what little I knew about it; to wit, a dog and a monster escape from an evil government military laboratory. It sounded too 50s B movie. I was wrong. This is an all out great book filled with great characters, great plot, and great themes. This is a book that will bring a shiver to your spine, a chuckle to your belly, and a tear to your eye. This is a book that will enrich your life. I give few five star ratings, but this book deserves all five of its stars.
Rating: Summary: Wheres the movie screenplay? Review: I read this book when it first appeared and it was one novel that stuck in my mind for the glorious story telling and page turning suspense. I have recently re read it and the book still charms, scares and enthralls me for its descriptive prose and just in time heroics. It is one read that is crying out for a well written screenplay and a hollywood blockbusting director to bring to life.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful ! Review: I generally dont write book reviews, i leave that for the 'critics' but this book was just too good for words. I dont want to raise your expectations, but I would call it Koontz's best book ever. (true i havent red all, but so far the best!) There are times when u are soo much into the story that u must absolutely finish the chapter before you set it aside.. Another thing I like about the book is that when Koontz is deep within in a ploy or scene in the book, he wont leave u hanging/wondering and switch the scene. Lovely story, the suspence is mindboggling.. having said that, the ending was a little too quick.. i reached the last 10 pages, and i was still wondering what would happen of the characters... As professional critics would put it... 'two thumbs up' :)
Rating: Summary: Good....4.5 Review: I liked this book, the only problem was that I kinda knew what was going to happen around halfway through the book, although I kept on reading. Honestly its a preatty easy read, I read it in a few days. Don't expect anything out of this world, but you'll still find it enjoyable. The dog is so cute, I want one. This is in my top 5 list of "fun" books to read.
Rating: Summary: A classic of Koontz's Review: I read this book years ago- but it still sticks out in my mind as one of Koontz's best. Pure mystery & suspense mixed with a little horror & the supernatural. Are the events in this book likely- no, but was it an enjoyable read? Yes!
Rating: Summary: The BEST Koontz Novel Out there! Review: This has got to be the BEST koontz novel out there! This is a Favorite among other Koontz fans. It has an element of surprise that keeps you in suspense! I could not set this book down! It is a MUST for any Koontz fan!
Rating: Summary: A word of caution... not enjoyable for all Review: After hearing such strong praise for Watchers, I decided it would be a perfect book for a horror fan like myself. Sadly, I found the suspense dull, and the characters felt superficial to the point of cartoonishness. This surprised me, since Koontz's Phantoms is one of my favorite horror novels. If you have read a fair amount of horror, you will find the frightening moments so predictable they lose all intensity. The character psychology and emotional maturity remain at consistently low levels. Scientific explanations? Fascinating mysteries? Nope, sorry... none of that fun stuff here.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: Wow. Its hard to put into words how incredible this book is. I would recommend this book to anyone. It has suspense, love, laughter, sadness. It made me laugh, it made me cry. Its a wonderful plot with colorful characters and an enthralling climax. Just when you are sure the worst has happened, Koontz surprises you again. I must say this is the best book I have ever read and will always compare his books to this one. I especially enjoyed reading his afterword. It is true, this is Koontz's finest hour.
Rating: Summary: An oddly popular Koontz book I didn't like Review: Many Koontz fans I know list this book as one of their favorite Koontz novels, but I list it amoung my least favorites. The premise of this book didn't appeal to me, and it just struck me as cartoonish. The book had good build-up, but was anti-climatic. One of the villian characters is quite interesting, however. But, I don't feel he justifies reading the book for. Consider one of Koontz other novels.
