Rating: Summary: possibly the best book ever written Review: Watchers is a stunning novel of two genetically engineered creatures. One is a sucess, a golden retreiver with human level intelligence. The other, a failure, an ugly creature created with a feirce urge to kill. Known only as the Outsider, the creature hates the dog because represents the goodness and light of genetic engineering, and the Outsider itself represents only darkness and hate. After the dog escapes from Banodyne laboratory, the Outsider follows it out of rage, and will stop at nothing to hunt it down and kill it. Travis and Nora are two people who befriend the dog, and get caught in the middle of this confrontation. The characters sparkle with life, and the writing style makes you feel like you are actually inside the book. You laugh and cry along with the characters, share their joy and sorrow, their excitement and their pain. Like I said before, this is quite possibly the best book ever written, and quite probably the best Dean Koontz has ever written.
Rating: Summary: the best koontz book ever Review: Koontz got me hooked to this book from the first page. It starts good and ends good. WATCHERS is gruesome, scary, moving, and exciting. These are some of the best characters in a book. THE DOG RULES. This is by far Dean Koontz's best book. READ IT. It's one of the best ever written.
Rating: Summary: His all-time best Review: I have read this book of Dean Koontz' so many times that I will soon have to buy another copy. Whenever anyone asks me if I know of any REALLY GOOD books to read, I always tell them of WATCHERS. My daughter, her fiance, their friends all adore Koonts/WATCHERS. I'ts a love story, a thriller and best of all an animal lovers dream come true. Oh how I wish my puppy could talk with me like that and who knows---- maybe someday she will. I really look forward to a new year. Even though it means I'm getting older, it also means a new book by Dean R. Koontz is on its way. I only wish a year was'nt so long. Thanks for so much enjoyment, Mr. Koontz.
Rating: Summary: Koontz's finest Review: OK, everyone who ever read the book wants to have Einstein, and everyone is scared of the Outsider. Aside from the banalities, this is a good book, I thought. The characters were typical Koontz, a rebel loner guy with a law enforcement or military background meets up with a strange female with an odd background, and they fight the good fight and walk into the sunset. At least this book gave me something to chew on. I really thought Einstein died at the end, and I wasn't sure about the guy living either for a while. Along with Strangers, Lightning and Phantoms, one of his very best, if not the best.
Rating: Summary: One of his earliest and still one of the best Review: If you own a dog, particularly a large, smart one, you'll never look at him/her the same again.
Rating: Summary: My very favorite book!! Review: I bought this book when it first came out in 1987 and have read it probably a dozen times in the years since. To me this book has everything; The government trying to create a killing machine, the monster they create and the lovable pooch thats as smart as they are. Not only is "Einstein" smart he's also a match-maker. I think if you have a dog and have always wondered what it would be like to actually be able to converse with it, you will like this book. To me this is the best Dean Koontz book ever!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Harrowing experience! Review: There's nothing like a succesful attempt to free oneself from a pair of police handcuffs, yet this is EXACTLY what one special dog accomplishes in Dean Koontz's WATCHERS. The metaphysical aspects of the expanoria are what makes this novel emit fascination. The mob hitman reminds one of sanctuary hives in the small of France. If the reader does not equate this phenomenom with spacious lanterns, then he is left with oats to fall upon.
Rating: Summary: Not plausible? HOW can you be sure? Review: This is one of the first books I read by Koontz. He's a genius! Watchers has all the elements of a good story. It's fast moving, very suspenseful, truly romantic, and filled with adventure. One almost literally cannot put it down. Many say this story is not plausible. People once believed the world was flat, too. How can we be sure?
Rating: Summary: Can believe all these 5 stars Review: Dean Koontz is my favourite author. I'd heard a lot about this novel and looked forward to reding it. I have to say I was very dissapointed. The story is so silly. The thing I like most about Koontzs books is that they could happen. Not this one! An intelligent dog and a big ugly monster - its so stupid. I did not find any suspense in it at all. I just gave it 3 stars because I love Koontz and I don't want to affect the average 5 star rating the book got here. My top five DK books are: 1. Strangers 2. Phantoms 3. Whispers 4. The voice of the night 5. Intensity/Servants of twilight By the way, the two snow books are in my opinion awful as well.
