Rating: Summary: lovely book Review: its a lovely book,it's maybe to religious for my taste. Also it seems that this book shouts out "oh we are all just toys in our lords hand"As atheist i just don't like this message. As Vampire chronical its anyway a good book.
Rating: Summary: my favorite of the Vampire Chronicles Review: I love this book. In all her books the passion she communicates for life and appreciation for everything beautiful is inspiring to me. The characters are so anguished not just by pain but in a way by beauty which they seem to perceive in a heightened way. I loved this book for her mythology about the creation of the world, angels and humans and memnoch's fall.
Rating: Summary: Intriguing Review: It took me a while to get around to reading this one, but I finally did, especially since finding it too intriguing to ignore. It was rather noble of Anne Rice to delve into the old God vs. Devil thing, instead of just good vs. evil, which is what most horror writers do. Others seem to steer clear of stories involving religion as a general rule of thumb. Although I thought her theory of the banished angel, Memnoch (or Satan to some of us), was interesting, I also found it to be somewhat different than my own thoughts on the same topic. That's alright, of course; it is Lestat's world we're talking about here, not mine. She sure knows how to bend an old topic to its maximum twist to tell a story though. Her devil was not only a thoughtful and caring angel, but defiant and questioning of a God that he felt was thoughtless and negligent toward the needs of the earth's disadvantaged, its lost souls as well. Could this be the way it really is? I hope not, as many of us won't last a second, trying to get into a heaven led by such a deity. And other than the fact that Lestat is a vampire, and in need of human blood to survive, the idea of him being sinister enough to be picked as the devil's right hand man was perplexing enough in itself ... in a way. I had to remind myself every now and then that it was a thoughtful king of Hell who found himself in need of the services of a somewhat thoughtful bloodsucker. Although Lestat needed human blood merely to subsist, he would never take it from the beautiful Dora though, for he loved her so, and promised her father, whom he did kill, that he would watch over her. But eventually, superfluous sips of insignificance proved tasty enough anyway ... well, read it and see for yourself. Anne Rice has a deliciously twisted and wicked mind for expressing stories of the blood-leeching monster of legend and folklore in a contemporary setting. It seems her scenarios are endless, but always very new and exhilarating. I love the way she thinks, and find her to be an extremely amazing writer. I found this book to be very interesting indeed.
Rating: Summary: I wouldn't be too harsh on it... but hell it was BORING! Review: Okay, now don't get me wrong... I don't hate the book. If I hated it, then I would certainly give it below three stars! Anyway, all I have to say is that the novel started off pretty good... then Lestat met Memnoch, and that's when things started to take a turn for the worse... I don't know how Anne Rice expected me to remain immersed in the novel when some guy talked for about 300 or more pages about the Creation. And where the hell was Lestat? Why was he so whimpy? Why was Memnoch so boring? I mean, come on! Lestat loses his left eye, then goes crazy at the end of the novel and gets himself chained up! And the thought of a helpless Armand crying on his knees is enough to make me cry - I almost did cry when he exposed himself to the sun on the church steps... although beforehand I knew that he did not really die. Dora kind of annoyed me... I mean, she's Christian and she hates God? That doesn't make any sense... And who wants to know about her seeing her period? I couldn't help but cringe when Lestat licked the 'blood' off of her ... that was so disgusting! The only reason I gave this book three stars and not two was because I was being easy on it -- and, like I said, I did not hate it. (Plus,I'm in a good mood today!) And to tell you the truth, I love Lestat, but I'm kind of getting tired of seeing him, four novels in a row. He's kind of conceited... but I still love him! I can't wait to get 'The Vampire Armand', although Lestat is not the star of the novel. It's for the better. I don't want to get tired of him. And another thing that remains in my mind... I thought that Lestat would have a fair conversation with God as well, but it seems that God did not have much of a say. Yeah, yeah, they described him as merciless, but that was only Memnoch's point of view. What about God's? To conclude this review, I think that Anne Rice was just being too descriptive of the most insignificant things. I was just rushing through paragraphs, and sometimes through dialogues. Memnoch talks to much, damnit!

Rating: Summary: Depends on what you're looking for... Review: I am not one who searches for the meaning of life, or makes theories about "how it all started", so for me this book was a disappointment. What some might find intriguing, I found tedious. This book was not an important addition to the Vampire Chronicles, like Lestat admits in the introduction, it's not important in this story that he is a vampire. Anne Rice is a great author, a fact that doesn't change in this book, but for someone expecting another action-packed continuation of the glamorous lives of the vampire, this book is not fulfilling. For those who are interested in fantastic theological theories, this book will prove enjoyable to you at least.
Rating: Summary: Memnoch Review: I liked the idea of the Devil, Memnoch telling his side of the ever popular bible. Especially the part on Revolations. It was different and I enjoyed this book.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not worthy of the Chronicles Review: This book is a theory. As the Bible is a theory, the Torah, the Koran. Albeit much more interesting and not so hypocrytical, that is all it is and I think that what Anne Rice did with this book is put all her own theories into a story and instead of being rudiculed for writing a Religion book (a book that would actually be in the religious section of the bookstore) she decided to throw Lestat in there and pass it off as fiction. The non-theory part of the book (also the parts that actually concern Lestat, which is only about 1/4 at most of the book) is pretty good. There seems to be a long work-up in the begining and after 300 pages of dialog and only a few paragraphs of action, it seems like Rice rushed the ending and decided to throw in one minor tragedy which could be summerized in her own words as, "Armand, Armand." So if you want to read a book and hear a new theory on God and the Devil (at it really is not a bad theory, mind you. As a matter of fact, it is the best I have ever really heard with the exception, of course, of "There is no God") then go ahead and read this book. If you are looking for an important piece to the Vampire Chronicles, then skip this book.
Rating: Summary: Why did the Devil chose Lestat? Review: Anne Rice provides a new angle on the God vs Devil discussion. It was very clever of her to use Lestat as a vehicle to explore this angle. But I was let down towards the end of the book because I wasn't able to follow the reasoning why Memnoch decided to be King of Hell and why Hell was described as a school for the souls. Too much happened in the final 5 pages with Lestat returning from Hell. The veil as a miracle, Lestat finally sucking Dora's menses while Armand and David looked on, Maharet returning Lestat's lost eye, Armand's suicide, Mael thinking of suicide - why spend so much effort in building up the climax, only to end with a whimper? And why did the Devil chose Lestat as his assistant? Lestat ranted at the end that both God and Memnoch were mad. I think Anne was mad too.
Rating: Summary: My first Anne Rice book Review: I found the book great, excellent and perfect. I really love the book. As a matter of fact I decided to buy every chronicle book as soon as possible. I recommende everyone to go out and at least get a used one like I did.
